The road that never happened

We walked along the side of the highway

towards each other; along the curve of a highway exit.

Stopped, shocked; both of us frozen for a moment,

  Sky dark, light from the airport and harbor behind.

We began to talk nonchalantly, like it never happened.

Began to recite our stories and we would find

where our roads took us after we became detached.

  Everything was said, but only a minute had passed.

  I wake up, it was all a dream, and I overslept again.
