I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932): i havent watched a pre-code movie in a million years i forgot how crazy they are. the last shot really sticks with you

Bait (2019): REALLY really interesting movie. the way time is layered on itself with quick flash forwards and back + the super claustrophobic feeling cinematography builds so much dread it almost feels like a horror movie. its almost a ghost story tbh. very excited to watch the directors later movies which are actually horror movies LOL normally 4:3 aspect rations arent very noticeable to me but you FEEL it with those extreme closeups of faces especially. looooved the uncanny feeling from the post-dubbed dialogue + the crunchy as FUCK film (apparently they used an actual old hand cranked camera?? awesome)

Until Dawn (2025): yeah they made an adaptation last year. yeah its bad LOL i was hoping at first, since the plot was changing a good amount, that they'd also opt to avoid the movie-monsterification of indigenous beliefs from the original game but alas 😔 they kept exploding characters and it made me laugh every time though

Mickey 17 (2025): i didnt know this was a bong joon ho joint until the credits LOL i kept getting (pleasantly) shocked by how the movie was Pulling Absolutely No Punches with its themes like its NOT subtle this movie is ABOUT capitalism colonialism and white supremacy and it clicked seeing the director: every movie ive seen from him has been awesomely and intentionally unsubtle with its messages. robert pattinson is always doing some kinda voice im gonna be honest i dont think i actually know what that guy sounds like irl.

Waxwork (1988): i couldn't really follow this movie At All but the gore effects were Wild

Drugstore Cowboy (1989): really really good movie with the acting and writing but also like, visually really subtly gorgeous. this movie uses deep reds and dusty pale greens like nobody's business

Enys Men (2022): i haaaaaaated skinamarink but i loved this so maybe you shouldnt take my opinions too seriously. the lichen brought to mind similar theming that Annihilation similarly did which i dug. i hope sometime soon i can watch Rose of Nevada, im excited to see where this director has gone since this!

Joker: Folie à Deux (2024): like the first movie this movie green as hell. im not sure if this movie is. good? but it worked for me more than the first one somehow? maybe i do just like legal dramas and jukebox musicals. i think it woulda benefited from trimming some of the runtime though.

Among Us (2026 TV Series): i know you've already heard that its like actually a really charming show with a fun and well thought out story but like it really is. also i think its the only cast ive ever seen that's entirely nonbinary which kinda blew my mind. ive seen lots of shows that are all female or all male, but isnt that something..... can there be an all nonbinary cast genre.... an all nonbinary cast movement.... i think there's something kinda awesome in there......

Muppet Treasure Island (1996): i had never actually seen a muppet movie before outside of like little clips here and there. yeah this movie rules HJDKHDJSK despite having not seen the movie at the time, i did listen to the opening song a lot on youtube as a kid but i had totally forgotten i did, so when the movie started and i heard it i was like WHOA

#art #watercolour #fanart #vocal synth #synthesizer v #synthv #genbu #virvox characters have made me painfully aware of my lack of yellow ochre in my watercolour palette #but on that same end ive somehow figured out a way to fudge a yellow ochre adjacent colour anyway so its fine #(sennelier pthalo green light + sennelier chinese orange)#(the pthalo green is just a very bright yellowy green and the orange is i think a mix of like)#(quinacradone red and azo yellow? and maybe other pigments idk)#(the orange was gotten in senneliers very affordable starter pack of 5 full sized professional paints)#(and that set is fantastic EXCEPT i dont think the orange is a good choice for it. the other colours i use like crazy)#(especially the ultramarine and the paynes gray. but the orange woulda been better as some kinda ochre or umber or whatever)#(idk SOME kind of brown. the orange is too bright to be useful without a lot of mixing for me)#(which i guess it the point. unfortunately im the worlds laziest artist and i wont mix a paint LOL)#(anyway this has been pigment talk with bmpmp3 thank you and goodnight)

lately i've been really into characters who are incredibly normal and put-together women on the surface and also have something wrong with them.

#black coffee with a single blueberry shot type women. ive been their biggest defenders for the past few years #i watched some a movie for film class once that most of the class hated but i enjoyed a lot #and specifically a common complaint was the main character acted unrealistically. she was a normal young woman type character #so i understand that a lot of people view an everyman character acting weird unrealistic because they dont act like how the viewer would ac #but this is a movie and it telegraphed early on that despite being an everyman and a pretty average 20 something she also had an #emptiness somewhere within her that she was searching to fill. so her slowly making bad decisions that kept snowballing into more #bad decisions was super interesting and made a lot of sense to me. i am the normal woman with something wrong with her defenderrrr

for a long time i thought i was a mediocre fiction writer but a good academic writer but after writing my undergraduate thesis poorly i think i've learned that The One Thing i'm good at writing is reviews. formative years watching hours of internet video reviewers did this to me.

#they werent even good internet reviewers. well a couple were good but most were bad and i watched a LOT of them gfkjfdks #but i guess once you start thinking a bit as to why you like or dislike something and trying to find the words to explain it #you develop ur critiquing skills pretty far. that is actually what happened with my undergrad thesis #i got good marks (i think like a 70% or smth) but i was fighting for my life the whole time writing it LOL i thought i was failing #tbh part of that is because it was always difficult to communicate with my advisor. her feedback didnt give me much guidance #she was the only advisor tho and i think it was just mismatch of personalities and stuff #but the one piece of feedback i did get that was useful was that my analyses are okay but kinda shallow and dont seem to go anywhere #HOWEVER my review writing is fantastic LOL this is art history and visual culture so review writing skills are valued #exhibition reviews for example are an important aspect of the field. but it was funny that thats the one thing i was doing well #im really good at having opinions. i'll have opinions about anything. its my ability.

ive been really into calling bad or mediocre writing "deflated" these days. limp writing. flaccid writing.

#LISTEN its a good word for like when youre looking at like a tragedy or a horror or something #and the ending was sad or unfortunate but also narratively unsatisfying #and you dont want people to come at you with watsonian reasons why the mediocre writing was good actually #like you can have a bummer ending thats satisfying or thematically interesting etc. and i want that. and i get sad when i dont get that #i GET DEFLATED #interestingly you can also have an 'unsatisfying' ending that feels thematically interesting. like a feeling of waiting for the other shoe #to drop even tho the shoe doesnt exist #im speaking to metaphorically sorry. happens when my inner 2000s movie reviewer slips out LOL

is it okay for me to say that i've found milgram's third half super deflated in general right now.... like just narratively its felt pretty muddled AND sometimes if somethings badly written but the music is good i'll still have fun but alas the music hasn't been hitting much for me either so i cant excuse it LOL well at least the animation is nice

#i dont remember it super well 'cause ive been kinda checked out since yuno's trial 3 because it was so wack #however i did find amanes and kazuis story to be mostly pretty narratively solid. fuutas idk if its good but fuuta makes me laugh #i like fuuta suffering hours. mahiru's writing mightve been okay too #BUT it was deflated deeply for me because the dead prisoners dont have songs to flesh out their conclusions #the songs are the most interesting part of the project to me thats always been the case #although deco's work in t2 was hit or miss for me and t3 has.... mostly been misses 😫 which is a shame because i looooved all of the #first trials music. but yeah characters dying and no longer having songs has made it way less interesting to me #im here for tunes first and foremost sorry orz but yeah um it looks. like mikotos plot is also kinda wack HFKJSHJFKSd #tbh i didnt have a hint of faith to begin with to be perfectly honest. i so incredibly rarely see characters with did done thoughtfully #in general let alone when theyve killed people. but im not a system so i wasnt sure. interestingly the focus on abusive workplaces #and stuff like that could have had something to it but idk again it feels muddled + it seems like they dropped the ball with the did angle #i am still interested in kotoko tho because i didnt gaf about her until her t2 song was so good i rethought about her position thematically #in the story and premise of milgram. so her t3 might not be GOOD. but it might be a little fun? maybe #i just hope its a good song. deco can you relax on the chillhop elements youre killing me man

AND they're beating eachother up homoerotic intricate rituals style.#i should try to recreate more images with interesting lighting like the original album art again #its actually kind of a really good learning exercise for watercolour. with watercolour adjusting the colours after painting is difficult #you can do it digitally and that can look interesting. but the raw colour is also interesting #so its fun to learn ways to work with colour. i think ive mentioned before that despite basically being an exclusively #analogue artist nowadays i still think largely like a traditional artist does LOL #sketch first lighten the sketch draw linework do basic flat colours add shading in layers over top #BUT watercolour works differently and im always trying to practice taking advantage of its quirks!#especially dealing with light. ive gotten pretty good at least at using the white of the page. but u can also mess with toning the white #of the page different colours etc. theres all kinds of ways to mess around......... heeeeeeeee hee hee

I loooooooove stretching and cracking every part of my body at all times HOWEVER I need to like. be more careful because of the mild hypermobility situation. sometimes I stretch my legs and it's awesome but then I do like 1 degree too many in the knees and like it doesn't hurt at all. but someday it probably will 😔

#I say mild hyper mobility because it really is only some of my joints (legs + hands and a little bit of shoulders)#although it sucks because I have family members that are MORE hypermobile than me but it never bothers them #I got the hypermobility that hurts 😔😔😔😔😔#HOWEVER despite how much my knees go The Wrong Way ive never really had much issues with my knees :)#outside of once or twice I've knocked them out of alignment from slamming them on concrete lmao #but it always healed fine too so my knees are lucky. but my ankles suck so much ass that like.#every time I stretch my legs and hear an unusual click (different from normal clicking) I Get Scared

I always thought it was interesting how in printmaking, paper prints seem much higher valued than fabric prints, like both monetarily higher selling costs as well as general higher demand. I looooove fabric prints I love how durable they are I love how many ways I can store and display and use them I loooove it HOWEVER. in my (albeit limited) experience both curators and general art customers vastly prefer paper. I guess there's probably a lot of factors why? Probably some systemic and probably some individual personal preference. It's a little alien to me either way though 'cause I care so much more about fabric prints over paper LOL

#is it the prestige of an art object that has 1 purpose vs an art object that can have many?#like a paper print can mostly just be displayed while a fabric print can be seen onto clothes etc #or is it because the average person prefers something they can hang on their wall classic style?#or maybe it's both. I find it really interesting because I definitely prefer fabric but I also don't display as much #art from others on my walls. I have a bit but I also put up my own art so I guess I need less wall decor LOL #but fabric prints are awesome because I can sew them to clothes or to a blanket or something....#art on everything!!!!!!!! I like it #also yeah we interrupt my career dooming to discuss printmaking trends and politics #I was cleaning up my resume because I was applying to some art thing can you tell AHHDJSJFH
