The Rape of Europa:  Hannibal AU Television Series

So @donttouchthekeyboard​ and I were talking about the Hannibal television show, and we both began to talk about if we could make any kind of Hannibal related TV show of our own, what would we do? We talked about a Where in the World is Carmen San Diego-esque storyline, in which Clarice is chasing Hannibal Lecter all over the world. @donttouchthekeyboard​ has her own version, which you should all harass encourage her to write because she’s a great writer, and I’m not sure she has enough writing projects on her list…she could use more…go read her stuff while you’re at it. It’s really good.

When I re-read Hannibal Rising and realized how much of it was art-related, my version sort of became very heavily based in art history. I wanted a new story that would:

Be its own original story

Tell the stories of Rising, Dragon, and Silence in flashback form (Yes, Will Graham does show up)

Eventually, line up with the actual Hannibal novel storyline.

Teach viewers something about art history each week, as well as ask complicated questions about the art world with regards to ownership of art, with particular emphasis on WWII era Art Restitution.

 Weave characters in and out of real-life art-related crimes and other historical events.

The name is from the Greek story of Zeus, disguised as a bull, abducting Europa, most famously depicted in the painting by Titian. Like Leda and the Swan the title represents Clarice and Hannibal, but it is also the title of a book and documentary about the stealing of art by the Nazi’s during WWII. The Rape of Europa = The Pillaging of Europe’s Art.

Why am I saying all this? Because while I did not write a full piece of fan fiction, I did write an outline for four seasons, brief summaries for 60 episodes, as well as made lots of graphics and am going to start posting them on my tumblr, because if I don’t get this out of my head I may run mad. 

I’m so sorry. You’ve been warned.

The cinematography of The Silence of the Lambs often emphasizes Clarice’s petite stature, especially in comparison to those of the men with whom she interacts. During her scenes with Lecter, however, the camera almost always depicts them on the same level (despite the approximately six-inch difference between the heights of the actors).

Starling was an isolated member of a fierce tribe with no formal genealogy but the honors list and the penal register. Dispossessed in Scotland, starved out of Ireland, a lot of them were inclined to the dangerous trades.
