@thexdestroyer
You have no idea do you? You have no idea what she was prepared to do for you. When our sister sees something that she perceives to be an injustice she can be stubborn, impetuous and at times down right dangerous. And never was this more apparent than the night she tried to kill our father. It is the truth. I was there. And she would have done it, all to protect you had I not stopped her. I often wish that I could revisit that moment, complete the task myself.

“You.”
Had he not killed that boy centuries ago? Had he not been one of those blasted mongrels who had tried to fend him off that night? Of all those dogs, how had he missed him - that bastard’s son. Why was here in this city, of all cities?
“How are you still alive?”
thexdestroyer:
The surroundings gave way to blurs with splashes of green, and murky brown all spinning and tumbling past as as went over teacup. But he kept a tight hold, making sure that the dog’s son was coming with him - no one would away, not this time.
A bitter laugh scraped at the back of his throat when their careening came to and end, a mocking chortle as he saw the frustration looming in the other’s eyes, a laugh that grew when claws tore deep ravines into his chest. Pain meant little to him anymore, but he would give the wolf 10/10 for effort. “I am no bastard, boy.” Mikael let out a roar, back arching against the unforgiving ground as he twisted, taking the leverage from the wolf and flipping them over, a heavy blow landing across the wolf’s jaw as he finally managed to pin him down. An admirable show of strength from the boy from the start, but he was out of his depth. A wolf would not win against the likes of him.
Ansel’s first-born. The man who had infected his family like a poison, the man who had called himself the chief of their kind - the one who had welcomed to their new home. And all that time, he and Esther had been carrying on behind Mikael’s back. Having him raise a boy that wasn’t his - was one of Ansel’s who had torn Henrik apart? Was it the wolf he had pinned beneath him?
He delved his hand into the back pocket of his jeans, the smooth curve of the blade cool against his palm, “You can thank your dear half-bred bastard of a brother for this.” Mikael leaned down, a smile showing off his fangs as he ran the white blade of the dark object across the dog’s clavicle, “Silly boy to think it would keep me at bay.”
The vampire leaned more weight onto the deceptively small blade, burying its tip into Cary’s shoulder, a small tut as he held it in place, “the boy never did learn to put his toys away when he was done playing; you leave something laying about and someone is going to take it for themselves.”
anger is dangerous, it blinds people ... yeah, not shit. that’s all he needed now, his father’s words echoing in his head like a taunting i-told-you-so from beyond the grave. cary had allowed his anger to cloud his vision and he’d lost his upper hand, but sulking wouldn’t fix that. he needed to move. he needed to find a way out of the hole he’d bound straight into; patience, logic, reason - the three cornerstones his father had build his leadership upon, the same three lessons he had tried to instill in cary and his sisters. but try as he might, every so often, cary slipped between the three.
had he really survived over a thousand years only to fall to the same fate as his father? for that same monster to give a repeat performance?
gritting his teeth as pain laced across his chest from where the tip of the blade pierced his skin, muscles tensing at the sudden intrusion. his teeth clenched tightly, grinding against each other, but his resilience broke - a strangled cry torn from his throat; it hurt … inside and out, it tore through his thoughts, burning and stinging and aching all at once; voices assaulted his attempts to think clearly, ringing in his ears, crying and screaming, wailing and keening, deafening him to everything except for their tormented chorus - the voices of all those who had been sacrificed in order to power that damned blade.
his grip softened in mikael’s shirt, fingers loosing their purchase as he screwed his eyes shut, drowning beneath the sea of anguished voices, he sank further and further away from reason - the pain searing across his chest pushing him even farther own, until a small voice cut through the maelstrom - papa … if he fell, then his pack fell. mikael would slaughter them all, then turn his attention to niklaus and hope.
eyes flying open, the golden yellow irises stark against the black sclera, cary’s fists found renewed purchase on the vampire’s shirt - and he pulled himself up, the cursed blade sinking deeper into his own flesh as he bared his canines, sinking his teeth deep into the exposed flesh on the side of mikael’s neck. it wouldn’t kill him, unfortunately, but it’d even the odds a bit as cary knew his bite was more venomous than the other wolves in his pack - a byproduct of his age and longevity.
A roar of surprise ripped from this throat - the piercing stab of pointed fangs sinking deep into the opening he had given the mongrel. He'd take the pain of a fresh bite as punishment for allowing the beast an opening to take advantage of, a hollow grin of confidence still lingering on the Original's face, until a throbbing pain spread out from the bite - like ink seeping into virgin yarn, spreading and leeching its way outwards through his flesh ... but how? He regularly fed on vampires that had venom in their system, used it to dose himself into a tolerance to ensure it wouldn't hamper him in the midst of a fight. So how could a wolf's venom hit him this hard, and this fast? It wasn't possible.
But the blurring edges the trees took on told a different tale. The boy’s bite was more potent than the wolf venom he’d spent so long dosing himself with.
Mikael pulled back, relinquishing his grip on tunde’s blade as he pushed away from the wolf, away from the teeth that had tore ragged gashes into the side of his neck. He clamped a hand over the wound - anger and frustration waging for dominance as he glared at the wolf who struggled to his hands and knees in the dirt - he had survived that night, that was how he was still here now. Was that why he venom already burned through his veins? Had their bite been dulled through the centuries?
Mikael blinked, his vision blurring and when it came right again, the wolf before him shifted out of focus, replaced by the dog that had sired him, “Bastard.” He spat, a forced blink in a pathetic attempt to jar his vision back into focus, “Bastard!” Mikael roared in frustration, his foot landing heavy against the cary's ribs before he turned away - as much as his rage dictated for him to stay, to play the odds and roll the dice - he wouldn’t take that risk. He’d find him again, when the venom was out of his system - find that dog’s son, find the pack he protected today and tear them apart.

His fists clenched and unclenched, the blood already on them growing sticky in the heavy air of the bayou. How utterly predictable - as easily led by anger and temper as that abomination of a half-breed brother and that dog of a father. The temper and the anger - were those not traits of those mongrels? A proverbial powder-keg, only waiting for the faintest of sparks to set it alight; barbaric affronts to nature, all of them.
He would find them all, eventually. Each and every dog that held even the most watered-down and faintest touch of that dog’s bloodline, and where better to start than with the one he’d clearly missed that night centuries ago?
“You ran.” Mikael stated, kicking the corpse of the felled wolf to the side to clear his path to Ansel’s first-born, “Tail between your legs, you ran from the village that night. And you had a family of your own, didn’t you? Abandoned them to the bloodshed to save your own hide, like father - like son?”
The veins around his eyes darkened, raising to the surface as his canines lengthened, lip curling back into a snarl as he met the boy’s advance - leverage was was split between them for only a second before the ground gave way - tumbling away from beneath his feet as he kept a hold on the dog, dragging him with him. Was he the dog that had killed Henrik? Had it been him? They said that wolves could recognise their own - had that bastard been drawn to his half-blooded brother - was that why his son had been torn apart?
that was the face had been the plagued his nightmares for so long - the engorged veins that stank of stale blood, the fangs of the monster who had torn his life apart. the face that had stayed lodged in his mind every waking day since that night - the one that had spurred him on each time he’d wanted to stop and give up; the one that had turned him into the alpha he was now.
cary kept a hold on the vampire’s shirt as they tumbled to the ground, away from where jordan’s body lay, and away from his pack’s campsite. desperate to put as much space between his pack and this monster. head over heels, cary fought for any modicum of leverage he could find as they tumbled down a ditch, landing heavily at the bottom with a painful slap into the water soaked muck. he gripped harder when gravity brought their freefall to a stop, his claws sinking through the thin material of mikael’s shirt, refusing to let go - if he could land a bite, he could pitch this in his favour. it wouldn’t kill the bastard, but cary knew his venom was more potent than the other wolves, a byproduct of his age.
a snarl fought its way out as he managed to pin the vampire beneath him, barring his forearm across mikael’s chest. ‘ bastard. ’ cary spat, his voice a harsh bark as memories of that night rushing back in a flood; the screams, the cries, the tang of blood on the air ... then the silence, and the bodies. ‘ bastard! ’ he roared louder, voice cracking as his claws sunk into the flesh of mikael’s chest; his whole family, his friends, his parents, his siblings - his wife, his boys. all left for the crows to feast on because of him.
The surroundings gave way to blurs with splashes of green, and murky brown all spinning and tumbling past as as went over teacup. But he kept a tight hold, making sure that the dog's son was coming with him - no one would away, not this time.

The eyes were different, they weren’t the blue of that dog’s, nor were they the same as that pseudo-son he’d thought his own. But the jawline, the peak and hollow of his cheekbones … how had he not realised before that night? How had he not looked between that boy and what he’d thought as his own and seen the dots that had been there to connect?
Rising slowly, Mikael slowly wiped his bloodied hands across his thighs, gaze lingering on the dead wolf before an amused bark of a laugh echoed through the woods as he rolled the dog over with his boot, keeping his heel perched on its prone shoulders.
“One of yours, I presume? ”
it was bait - though the original hardly knew he had a moonlight ring on his finger? carefully chosen words, hung on an artfully pitched tone - all strung together to hook him; to make him bite; to force reason and strategy out of the picture. jordan’s unseeing, glazed eyes emptily staring across at him, cary could feel his anger rising in spite of him knowing this was bait. and the worst part of all?
it worked.
a growl rumbled in his chest, eyes flashing a dangerous shade of yellow as his lip curled back into a snarl, canines lengthening, too long to be human, and cary roared as he leapt for the vampire, nails sharpening to points as he claws sought flesh to find purchase in.
‘ son of a bitch! ’
