Out of Place || Future Sam brought to Present
Dean nodded as he approached the car, sending a squinted glance around the parking lot and through the windows of the diner to make sure that they werenât being watched before he took the keys from his pocket and opened the trunk.Â
âYou donât look like youâve changed much.â he blinked at him as he tugged the duffel closer, hands softly shaking as he unzipped it, pulling out a neatly folded outfit, âWeâre gonna have to find you new shoes, though. You didnât â I mean he didnât leave any shoes behind.â he held the clothes out to him, âThereâs a bathroom in the diner where I think theyâll let you change.â
Sam glanced over the clothes, giving the other a small smile in return. Â "I- thanks, Dean." He murmured, voice still cracking a little as he ran his hand over the fabric. Â Worn and yet familiar. Â Different. Â It'd been too long, too damn long since any of this. Â He waited for the other though as he stepped away from the car. Â It wasn't so much out of the social uneasiness, though there was a lot of it. Â He almost felt like that awkward little brother again, afraid of the strangers, not sure what to do, what to say, only that there were a lot of them, and he had lost the ability to talk to many people other than the person in his head- not that Dean knew that.
In a way, he wanted to keep Dean from knowing, but he knew he couldn't hide his anxiety about the building, about the people in the windows.
