Winter 2020 Anime Worth Watching!
The new year is upon us already (holy crap itās 2020, is that even a real year?), and that means we have to push aside all the amazing anime that came out last year to make room for another season of anime! So if youāre feeling overwhelmed trying to look for something new to watch, maybe one of these might interest you! Unfortunately, not all of these are available on Crunchyroll, but Iāll put a (*) by the ones that are.
Here is a list for Spring 2020. And if you want to catch up on some stuff from last year, hereās a master list of shows worth watching from 2019.
New Shows!
*Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!: A coming of age story where a high school student with a major passion for animation meets a girl who is just as passionate about creating anime as she is, the two vow to create their own anime club! Every second of this show is a love letter to anime in the most sincere way possible, and I was captivated by the five minute mark. This is from the studio that made Devilman Crybaby and Ping Pong the Animation if that tells you anything about its unique animation and character design. The characters are fun, the design of the world is amazing, and itās something different from the typical āletās make a clubā anime we are so used to seeing. If you have any passion for animation and world creation, this is an absolute must watch.Ā
*Somali to Mori no KamisamaĀ (Somali and the Forest Spirit): Following the tradition of the stoic man in armor accidentally adopting an adorable child, this fantasy slice of life involves a Golem who is charged with protecting a forest. When he finds a lost human child named Somali chained up in the woods one day, the two bond instantly and go on adventures together. It is so adorable and wholesome, Somali is super cute, the Golem is a fun dad character, the fantasy world is so rich and vibrant, and I was hooked after one episode.
Runway de Waratte (Smile Down the Runway): Itās a freaking runway model anime, and itās pretty dang good. It follows Chiyuki, a teenager whose father runs a modeling agency, who hopes to perform as a model for Paris Fashion Week one day. The only problemā¦she stopped growing at 158 cm. Chiyuki is a very fun protagonist who (at least in the first episode) is not sexualized or considered shallow for wanting to be a model. The show also serves to underscore some of the inherent sexism in the industry (like how women, who put so much work into their bodies, arenāt considered as important as the men who design the clothes). Itās humorous, it has an adorable boy who likes sewing, and it has a well written way of delivering the age old message of not letting anyone get in the way of your dreams, especially yourself.
*In/Spectre (kyokou suiri): A mystery comedy/romance wherein a girl named Kotoko becomes a moderator for the spirit and human worlds, aka a āgoddess of wisdomā. She also happens to be in love with a seemingly generic college student who just broke up with his girlfriend and takes this opportunity to make her move, only to find that there might be more mysterious elements to Mr. Generic MC-kun than she realized. So naturally the two become partners in yokai crime solving, while she tries to get him to reciprocate her feelings! This show is addicting, the atmosphere is mysterious and funny at the right moments, and Kotoko is hilariously direct, making her one of the best main characters of the season!
*The Case Files of Jeweler Richard (Housekishou Richard-shi no Nazo Kantei): A āmysteryā anime where a super fancy British jewel appraiser takes on a cheerful Japanese apprentice, and the two solve mysteries about jewels togetherā¦.and it also seems really gay. Thereās a big psychological element the cases they take on, and it is clear from the first episode that the show is more about what drives the characters than actual mystery plots. That will really work for some people, like me, but I understand if itās not what people want out of this genre. Still, I want to see the kinds of cases and characters this show comes up with, so if you enjoy quiet, low stakes, psychological story telling, give this one a chance.
Dorohedoro: No, not a sequel to Dororo. This is an urban fantasy about Caiman, a man living in the magic infested slums who is trying to find the sorcerer who cursed him. And did I mention the curse is that Caiman has the head of a lizardā¦.and that thereās apparently a mysterious man living inside his mouth who gives cryptic messages to people? Yeah this is definitely the weirdest show of the season, with an oddly comedic tone that somehow integrates all the brutal violence of an 80s slasher film, it will give you whiplash trying to keep up with whether or not you should be taking anything seriously. But thatās the fun of it! Caiman is hilarious, and itās made by MAPPA, so itās at least worth a shot. The only downside for me personally is the 3D animation, but after Beastars, Iām trying to be more open minded about that. And the animation at least works for how fucking wild this ridiculous show is.
ID: Invaded: An original mystery/psychological anime in which a genius detective suddenly finds himself in a bizarre fragmentedā¦virtual realityā¦.pocket dimension where he must help solve a series of murders, including the murder of his own daughter. But it turns out, our detective is actually in prison, and the virtual dimension is a physical version of the killerās mind! Look Iām not going to pretend I understand everything about it, but itās refreshing to see an anime that lets the audience put things together and discover things over time. I can definitely say itās unique and interesting to watch! There is a lot of potential in just the first couple of episodes.
Darwinās Game: The resident edge lord anime of the season, where a high school boy is invited to join a mysterious game that turns out to be a sinister battle app that tries to kill the player by pitting them against one murder-crazed opponent after another. Iām really more interested in the mystery of the game than the annoyingly obtuse main character. This may not be for everyone, but give it a few episodes to wait and see.
Natsunagu!: A coming of age story in which a college student living in Tokyo finds she cannot contact her old friends after an earthquake hits the city of Kunamoto, so she goes to the city herself. But when she arrives to find her friendās house is gone, she must meet the locals to find out whatās going on in the town. This has some super unique animation, and each episode is only four minutes, so thereās no excuse not to watch it.
Next seasons and Continuations!
*Haikyuu!! To the Top: The fourth season of Haikyuu is here and the fandom has risen!!!!!!! In case youāve never heard of it, this anime follows a boy named Hinata who is obsessed with volleyball and must work to overcome his height and his rivalry with a fellow teammate in order to become a great volleyball player. If you havenāt given this anime a chance yet, this is one of the best sports anime ever made. Every character is so well written, not to mention hilarious. You will root for every team and cry when anyone loses. It doesnāt matter if you donāt care about volleyball, you will after you watch an episode of this show. Also, the two episode OVAs: Land vs Sky come out, so Iāve basically died and gone to volleyball heaven.
*Chihayafuru (Season 3): A vastly underrated coming of age sports anime in which a girl who loves the traditional Japanese card game is aiming to be the Queen of Karuta while running her schoolās karuta club. In case you missed it last season, the third season of Chihayafuru is continuing for a second cour and Iām super pumped! I talked a lot about it in my Fall 2019 anime list, but if no one has convinced you to watch this anime yet, please give it a chance!
*Ahiru no Sora: A leftover from last season, in which a short boy who wants his school basketball team to go to nationals must lead everyone to victory when he finds out his team is full of punks who donāt really give a shit about basketball or following the basic layout of a traditional sports anime. Overall the characters are entertaining, and even though the guys are perverted, the show doesnāt actually indulge in pointless fanservice at all. Itās apparently getting 50 episodes, so if you like sports anime with a lot of room to grow, this is the show for you.Ā Ā
Kabukichou Sherlock: In the neon city of Kabukichou, a perky doctor named John Watson meets a group of detectives (one being the reclusive and ridiculous Sherlock Holmes) who are hired to solve the cityās many crimes, including the curious case of Jack the Ripper. If you didnāt hear about it last season, this is another modern retelling of Sherlock Holmes, but I promise itās actually pretty interesting! Sherlock is a well balanced foil to Watson, it is one of the few anime that involves the overlooked art of Rakugo, MRS. HUDSON IS AN ABSOLUTE QUEEN, and the other detectives are funny with diverse personalities. It is getting a full 24 episodes, and I didnāt even realize it until after I had initially posted this list, so I had to add it as soon as I found out it was continuing because it would be a crime to leave it out!Ā
*My Hero Academia (season 4): Because Iād probably be hunted down if I didnāt mention that MHA is continuing for a full 25 episodes. Iām sure everyone who is anyone is already watching it. Honestly though, Iāve really loved this season so far, and itās probably been my favorite since the first one.Ā
Well, thereās some new options for everyone out there. Just remember that at the time Iām posting these, there are only a few episodes out of each show, because sometimes people find these months after the shows come out and donāt understand the concept of a first reaction.
Hereās to another great year, and another great decade of anime!
Winter 2020 watchlist
Anime Iām following this season!
Sequel series
Haikyuu!! To the Top (season 4)
Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story
New/Original series
Keep Your Hands off Eizouken -3 girls, (character designer, concept artist, and a hustler) try to make an anime together. Very loose, fluid style. Imaginative and unique. FANTASTIC OP.
In/Spectre -a young girl, kidnapped by spirits, is asked to become their goddess of wisdom. She becomes a mediator for them and solves problems between the spirits and the human world.
Toilet Bound Hanako-kun -Really pretty art style! This series is visually incredible!! OP is great. Story is silly and characters are pretty goofy but its a fun series so far. Does get a bit dark at times, so it might take a turn at some point.Ā
A Destructive God Sits Next to Me -Silly, funny school antics show with entertaining characters. The main boy tries to fight his position as the straight man, but heās actually really stupid so he often falls for the tricks of the other characters. His desk neighbor is a hard-core chuunibyou who often embarasses himself trying to act cool. Their third friend is an asshole who likes to stir shit up.
Somali and the Forest Spirit -Emotionless golem dad adopts a human girl he finds in the forest and brings her along on his travels while trying to keep her safe from other creatures.
Smile Down the Runway -A pretty, short girl who dreams of becoming a model is shut down because of her height. She meets a boy who dreams of becoming a clothing designer but canāt because of his family obligations and financial situation. They work together to both achieve their dreams. -I donāt care for fashion literally at all, but the story is really engaging! The main characters are well written and likeable and I was quite invested in them within the first episode! Very good story so far.
If My favorite Pop Idol Made it to the Budokan, I would Die -Idol anime from the perspectives of fans.Ā Slice of life, soft-yuri vibes. About the #1, obsessively supportive fangirl of an unpopular idol, and the idol who secretly harbors feeling for her fan, but canāt act on them because of her position. Explores the boundary between idols and fans and the blurred line between supportive and obsessive.
Asteroid in Love -Cute, soft, yuri, slice of life moe anime. A girl and a boy make a childhood promise together to discover an asteroid and name it after him. They separate and the girl holds the promise and the boy in her heart. They reunite years later in high school and the girl discovers her friend was actually a girl! They continue to work together in the astrology club to achieve their dream/promise.
Pet -Weird, introspective, mind games stuff. Itās kinda like inception with dream/mind dives and rewriting memories. Main characters are pretty morally ambiguous. And also gay? I think?
Darwinās Game -Terrible trashy death game fun. Same vibe as Kings Game
Continuing series
Chihayafuru (season 3) -PLEASE watch! I love this series to death
Black Clover -Its getting really good right now for this arc!
My Hero Academia (season 4) -School festival arc!
Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia -Second half!! Its gonna hurt!!
Winter anime 2020
And itās time for another one of these lists. They kinda keep growing in number and itās scary, but here it is! This season there were some continuation and some anime that got new seasonsĀ (ahiru no sora, chihayafuru, isekai quartet,Ā kaibukichou sherlock, iruma-kun, radiant, nnt) but here are the new anime we started ^^
{ Winter ā18 } Ā { Spring ā18 } Ā { Summer ā18 } Ā { Fall ā18 } Ā { Winter ā19 } { Spring ā19 } Ā { Summer ā19 }Ā {Ā Fall ā19Ā }
BOFURI: I Donāt Want to Get Hurt, so Iāll Max Out My Defense.
This is a typical isekai with a game-like action and plot. It doesnāt have any deeper meaning, but okay for relaxing. Basically, if you want to take your brain out for a walk - watch this!
Darwinās game
The manga is better. It always is, but here especially so. It has a really good concept - a battle to the death game in real life, but not as good execution with the anime adaptation, they skipped some of the really important parts. Donāt let that discourage you tho! It has a good character development and nice action scenes, which makes it quite good! And move on to the manga later ^^
Dorohedoro
A very interesting anime! Weird, but good! Not surprising tho, itās mappa. The world in which the story is placed is, although very dark, refreshing and unusually good. The characters are unique, lovable, but weird⦠like really weird. The animation is a bit different, but it has itās charm. Also, it has itās fair share of blood and gruesome scenes, so skip it if you donāt like that. We loved it though! One of the favorites ^^
Hands off the motion pictures club!Ā
Soft. Just goddamn soft. The animation is a bit different and simplistic, but it fits the characters so well. This slice of life pulls you into the imaginative and colorful world of three high school girls who share the love for animation, and the viewer follows their process of getting inspired for plots for their anime and working on creating it. There is not much action going on, but it always leaves you with a positive feeling after watching it.
ID:Invaded
Yes. Watch it please.Ā Awesome detective/ mystery story. The idea of entering a criminal subconscious (aka the id) is a unique and it gives new possibilities for detectives to find clues. The plot is very intriguing and keeps you on your toes. Its confusing at the beginning, but the story connects better after a few episodes and it makes you want to watch more. The characters are intriguing and their conversations well paced. (also great voice actors and music *-*) It has some darker scenes, murder and suicide mention, just thought I should mention that, but itās an extremely good anime, so would definitely recommend!
If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would DieĀ Ā
As you can see from the title, this is about a girl fangirling over her favorite idol and thatās it, thatās the plot. But, itās somehow soft, nicely animated and the story is just enough for an episode a week. It shows both the idol and the fan side of the idol culture, especially the less famous groups. Overall, itās not an anime that will knock you off your feet, but itās a solid comedy with relatable characters ^^
Infinite DendogramĀ Ā
Generic entering-a-game anime. The point of the anime is that every persons possibilities are endless and everyone has the potential to develop into a strong person. Like we said, nothing new. Itās old, but cute concept.Ā
Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kunĀ
And weāre pretty sure most people already know about this one! Itās playful, colorful, cute as heck, the main girl gets a bit annoying, but itās hella good! The story balances comedy with a school setting and a darker side involving yokai and evil things that lurk in the shadows, making it interesting to watch. The animation is pleasant to the eyes and the characters are great, whatās more to want ^^
Kyokou Suiri
The plot of this anime is more focused on logical and critical thinking rather than on action, though it may seem otherwise from the synopsis. The relationships between the main characters are kind of weird, but in a good way and their interactions are always interesting. We were pleasantly surprised to see the main female character to have a crush on a guy and still maintain her IQ level. Overall, itās a good anime, it has good voice actors (Mamo-chan <3), but donāt expect to be kept on the edge of your seat.
Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica GaidenĀ Ā
If you watched Madoka, Iām sure youāve heard about this release. We were happy that they kept the same dementia animation style, especially of witches. It kinda has a more positive vibe than the original but it still keeps some of the original darkness. There are a lot of new magical girls and more plot and action. Itās pretty good, but the original is better (we love them darkness).
Natsunagu!Ā
A very cute five minute anime about a girl searching for her friend who suddenly stopped answering her texts. The animation is cute and you have nothing to lose if you watch it.
Oda Cinnamon NobunagaĀ
Itās about japanese warlords and historical figures, who are resurrected as dogs. Even though theyāve kept their personalities, they canāt say no to dogs drives (pet me hooman!). Itās cute, but not a lot of plot.
Pet
It has a very interesting idea of entering peoples subconscious and changing it, manipulating their memories in order to control them. But the executions of that idea is⦠meh, at best. The characters arenāt lovableĀ or memorable, you donāt feel a connection to them. Itās one of those anime that at the end you sayĀ āIt could have been so goodā. But yeah, it wasnāt.
Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove ItĀ
The title says it all. Comedy, slice of life (but not really, the sample is not representable). You really start rooting for the main couple and they are funny at proving their love. Itās also educational, it does mention and explain some principles. Itās quite funny ngl.Ā
Smile Down the Runway
A heartwarming anime about a guy who wants to be a designer and a girl who is too short, but still wants to be a model. Itās a story about perseverance, hard work and pushing towards your dreams. Positive and emotional, and you find yourself cheering for the main characters. Perfect if you want a slow paced anime that includes character development.Ā
Somali and the Forest SpiritĀ
Itās heartwarming, has very clear animation and great voices. The concept is really interesting, the accent is on understanding others different than you and showing love and support. Basically, lots of emotions, it doesnāt have action or a complicated plot, but as a soft story, itās pretty good.Ā
The Case Files of Jewler Richard
This show is so filled with emotions and softness, itās amazing! Itās mostly peoples stories - problems and difficulties they overcome on their own or with help of the people close to them, which also have some connection to a jewel. The plot focuses more on the main characters in the later episodes. But the art is very pleasing and the main characters have good chemistry. Of course, itās not for those who donāt like a bit more of a slow paced story, mostly based on storytelling and human interactions. But itās still good ^^
Watched but got to lazy to properly review: Ishuzoku Reviewers (sometimes you just have to admire that someone had the imagination to come up with some of the episodes),Ā Sorcerous Stabber Orphen (not terrible, not that good either)
do you have any good romance manga to recommend? maybe something like SoL like ao haru ride and last game or fantasy like akatsuki no yona and akagami no shirayuki hime?

6. Hori-san to Miyamura-kun
7.Ā Karakai Jouzu Takagi-san

TADANO CAT BOY
That's the post
This 2020 has been hard enough, we need something good at least
happy birthday tadano
Actually I think the world needs more of this beauty
The Shit Waifu of the Day Is:
Komi Shouko from Komi-san wa Komyushou desu
The only shitty thing I see here is your standards and opinions, OP.
Oh you like hamefura huh? Whatās this characterās name? Wrong answers only.
That's Jesus.
*Snorts* oh my god, Geordoās acting all cool likeĀ āNone of this will stand up in a court of lawā
Meanwhile, Keith says straight upĀ āMy sisterās way too f****king stupid to pull something like this.Ā She barely has enough brain cells to live, and you think she can orchestrate a scheme like this?Ā Miss me with that BS.ā
Okay, but everyone else's reaction though? Sophia and Alan straight up going "lol she's dumb so your argument is invalid" is the funniest shit.
Again we see that Maria is really the only member of the harem with her head in the game.Ā Her strategy is direct, consistent, and tailored for maximum effectiveness.Ā Mary can make up cool escape plans all she wants, Sophia can do promo for her brother until the end of time, but Maria delivers š on š the š goods, and thatās going to make her a winner.
She is the main character of an otome game. She knows exactly what route she's on, who she wants, and she's going to fucking win no matter how many sweets she has to bake.
What I Love and We need more of
Reincarnation Isekai with Female Protagonists that
A. Start at baby age and watch the character grow up
B. Reincarnate them as the rival character from an otome game they played
or C. All of the above
This is a very specific genre that has some wonderful gems in it. Some examples:
- Daughter of the Emperor
- Accomplishments of a Dukeās Daughter
- My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!
- Who Made me a Princess?
- They Say I was Born a Kingās Daughter
- I Am A Child of This House/I Belong to House Castielo
Reblog more suggestions if you have any

My Top 10 Anime of 2020
Okay yeah this year was something else. Quarantine, pandemic, losingĀ a love one, just too much to handle. I personallyĀ loss my grandfather before the pandemic, so yeah I already was going through a shitty year. Because I was working a lot (I work in retail the pandemic really affected my time) and suffered a hug loss in my family, anime was just to hard for me to watch or handle this year. I either was way behind on an anime or catching up on an anime from my Must Watch list. Anyway Iām surprisedĀ I still was able to do a list this year so here we go.
Like I said before you donāt have to agree with me this is just my personal list please respect that. I only do this out the love I have for this incredibleĀ genre. This year I did put the top sequelsĀ with the new animes however I didnāt put a gifs. I just didnāt have enough room, and I just wanted to put more attention on the new ones this year. (Please excuse Beastars on here it came out in my regionĀ this year so it counts to me at least)
1. Appare Ranman and My Hero Academia season 4
2. Beastars and Fruits Baskets season 2
3.Ā Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle and Fire Force season 2
4. Smile Down the Runway and Haikyuu TO THE TOP
5. Jujutsu Kaisen and Kaguya sama Love is War season 2
6. Toilet Bound Hanako kun
7. The Day I Became a God
8. The Millionaire Detective
9. My Next Life as a Villainess
10. Talentless Nana
Honorable Mentions:

GOODBYE 2020 AT LAST
