Asana of the week: Vrksasana
Vrksasana (Tree)
Here are some different variations of the posture, the third one being the least common.
Type: Balance
Name: The name of this posture comes from the word vrka (tree) in sanskrit because….well, you look like a tree.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Important: Keep your spine neutral and your breath shallow. Make sure your flexed knee is pointing completely towards your side.

Asana of the week: Ustrasana
Ustrasana (Camel)
Apologies for the delay in posting. I was away and then a bit busy but I am back now :)
Type: Backbend, chest opener
Name: The name of this posture comes from the hump formed by the chest, like a camel.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate (depending on variation)
Important: Press your pelvis forward and up. Slowly move your head back, don’t overstretch your neck backwards. Lift…

Asana of the week: Virabhadrasana II
Asana of the week: Virabhadrasana II
Virabhadrasana II (Warrior II)
You might be wondering why I started with Warrior II and not Warrior I. One reason is that this posture is actually simpler, the second reason is that I don’t have a picture doing Warrior I yet (oops).
Type: Hip opener, strength
Name: Virabhadra, like Matsyendra, is also a name. According to hindu beliefs, he was a warrior (or demon) who an enraged Shiva created to…

Asana of the week: Ardha Matsyendrasana
Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Lord of the Fishes)
This is one of my favourite twists. It’s simple and pretty much safe.
Type: twist
Name: Ardha = half. Matsyendra is actually a historical person. He was a north Indian sage thought to have co-founded Hatha Yoga.
Level: Beginner
Important: Your arms are positioned to keep you stable, not to move you. Don’t push yourself into the posture using your…

Asana of the week: Natarajasana
Natarajasana (Lord of the Dance)
Type: balance, backbend
Name: Nataraja is the name given to Shiva when he is performing his dance.
Level: Intermediate (I’d say it can go from beginner to advanced depending on how much you bend)
Important: If you’re doing the full posture (feet lifted as high as head), keep it short.
If you find this posture difficult, try to prepare for it with other balance…

Asana of the week: Halasana
Halasana (Plough)
Type: inversion, forward bend
Level: Intermediate
Important: Your knees should be straight and close together. Keep the back of the neck and throat soft. Open the sternum and firm shoulder blades against the back.
If you find this posture difficult, try to prepare for it with sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and setu bandhasana (bridge).
Benefits
Stretches the legs (especially the…

Asana of the week: Dhanurasana
Asana of the week: Dhanurasana
Hey everyone :)
I decided to introduce an asana of the week post. It’s not intended for home-practicing complete beginners as I am not going to give step-by-step instructions. You can find that in a variety of other sites and videos though. What I’ll do is give some more information on the postures that you’d usually do in one my classes.
Dhanurasana (bow)
Type: backbend, chest-opener
Name: Dha…

The Yoga Box
So I decided to start a blog as well in connection with the website. It will be really exciting to share my passion for yoga in writing. Woohoo!
This first post will just talk a little bit about the name. A few years ago, I decided to create a website called The Happiness Box where I could share ideas, videos and articles about happiness. I imagined the website like a little anti-pandora box that…

The last photo of partner yoga session with @ruel.galinato ! I was happy that I felt really comfortable being upside-down in headstand for so many times. I always still have that small fear of flipping over (which i’ve already done so many times), but I think it’s more that I know I can balance and want to stay up. Also suprised that almost every time I did kick up I didnt didn’t need help staying up except for the few time he helped tap me.
