that's not the sort of theft he's worried about, Nicky
@jtl-fics your tag made me laugh 😂 that sounds on brand for him, yeah (referencing this post)
the way nicky and aaron talked about andrew off his meds is exactly the way dog people talk about cats.
“you dont know what he was like off his meds… he was scary and violent.” and then he goes off his meds and is just incredibly quiet and wants to be left alone.
exact energy as ppl crying cats are “unpredictable and will scratch you for no reason” while disrespecting every boundary the cat has put in place. there’s a fundamental misunderstanding happening.
andrew minyard is a cat. in this essay i will—
The way he's holding them here makes me feel conflicted. Like, this scene is terrifying and I can't imagine what's it like to be on a receiving end of it but... just look at it.
- he's holding Zooble in a way so that their parts don't fall out
- he's not squeezing Gangle so that her fragile ribbons don't get tangled
- he's not putting too much pressure on Ragatha so that she doesn't get ripped apart
- he's only holding Pomni and Jax firmly because their bodies are solid and rubbery
And this scene is right after the torture too. You would think he would be more violent, but no. He wanted to hurt them, not break them.
Caine wanted them to listen. And because they never did, he made them feel what he felt when they poked at his biggest fears and insecurities.
I guess what I meant to say is - even when at his worst, there was still something considerate in him. Something resembling the real him and not the angry monster he'd become.

its really a firm reminder that creators are also people with lives. they jerk off just like us

Andrew and the word no.
Andrew's trauma heavily involved the (fucked up) wants/desires of others outranking his no.
He loves saying no to people now because he can. He didn't have knives and physical strength before to enforce it but he does now.
He gets triggered when people try to push him into things because he feels like his no won't be respected, so when he notices someone wanting or expecting *anything at all* from him, he immediately shuts down and says no. And if they push him on it, he gets violent.
He even makes deals with people to create clear boundaries that can't be easily pushed.
He says it's so much fun to say no, but it's really self-protection.
Enter Neil, Mr. "I asked"
Who respects every boundary and every no that Andrew says.
Who reads between the lines and sees it clear as day.
Who never allows his wants or desires to be more important than Andrew's consent.
Im glad they made up romance for stories and music but can you imagine how scary it would be to deal with all that for real

TKM is one of the funniest aftg books because neil is actively getting hunted for sport the entire time and instead of caring about that he’s just meddling in other people’s lives and playing therapist for 400 pages: telling kevin to start living for himself & and forcing the twins to go to therapy together & passing jean’s number on to renee so that she can talk to him. and it WORKS too. the field of psychology lost its best mind when neil decided to go pro w/ exy

In Defence of Buttercup
Buttercup’s supposed passiveness is the crux of most critiques of The Princess Bride. But I’d argue that Buttercup acts in her own interests throughout the movie, making moves to secure her own future from her position of powerlessness. For the entirety of the movie barring the first and last scenes, Buttercup is a captive. She has to marry Humperdink in accordance with the law- she has no choice. In this moment we see her at her most passive. She’s accepted that he will marry her regardless of her feelings and she seeks her happiness in other places. Then she gets kidnapped. From that moment to the end of the movie Buttercup gets passed back and forth as the trophy everyone fights over. However, she doesn’t sit idly by. She attempts to escape Vizzini by jumping overboard into eel infested waters. That’s a brave move. She doesn’t know who is on the other ship she swims towards. She only hopes they won’t kill her like Vizzini plans to. Her failure doesn’t negate the bravery of her actions. Then she defies Wesley before she knows his identity. She tries to kill him by pushing him down the hill. He turns his back for one second and she makes a move against a man who she thinks will likely kill her. She saves Wesley when they exit the forest. Yes, it backfires, but she doesn’t know that. From that point on, Buttercup makes deals and argues with Humperdink in an attempt to get out of her betrothal. She uses any argument in her arsenal. It doesn’t work because she doesn’t know what he has planned for her.
Do you notice a theme? Because as I wrote this I noticed that Buttercup makes moves without context, which is why her escapes never work. She is a character acting without the information to succeed. That’s not her fault. That’s not passivity. That’s plot. The plot actively works against Buttercup freeing herself. So maybe we cut her some slack.
“The world demands I make good choices on no information, and then blames my maidenhood for my mistakes, as if my maidenhood were responsible for my ignorance. Ignorance is not stupidity, but it might as well be. And I do not like feeling stupid.”
- The Curse of Chalion
