Anniversary Charles Angrand (1854-1926), a teacher’s son, earned his living as a tutor and teacher. After admiring Corot’s work at a retrospective in Paris (1875), he was convinced that he should become a painter. After moving to Paris in 1882, he became a friend of leading neo-impressionists such as Seurat and Signac and picked up their ideas. In 1884 already, he became one of the founders of the Salon des Indépendants.

Angrand was born on April 19, 1854 in Criquetot-sur-Ouville, some 50 km from Rouen
