nonspecific goblin pilot idea uncovered bg text:
Mirne is a member of a small group of gray-hat omninet hackers that call themselves Rabbit Foot (stylized "rabbit.foot"), their breaches are intrusive but harmless. They target small corporate entities, breach their network infrastructure and then send things like encouraging messages to individual employees emails, remotely change computer wallpapers to memes, change retail store music to their own playlists, and have even coded small games or "desktop toys" themed after their target.
Mirne considers herself a hobbyist, as most in Rabbit Foot do, though she was able to obtain code and print files for a mech pattern group simply called “Goblin”. She was able to print and assemble the parts necessary for its electronic warfare suite and crudely assembled a chassis with what she could obtain; she occasionally uses it from her home to carry out local pranks.
Mirne has a cybernetic tail she can use to physically plug into compatible electronic ports for direct neural interfacing. Her nickname comes from her sleeves and she tends to sit in a folded up position with her knees bent and tucked under her chin

Re: Witch From Mercury/Shin G-Witch Episode 2 - Homework on the First Day? ___
The Benerit Group's response to Suletta's duel will not be immediate, they can't definitely prove that Aerial is a Gundam and are aware of that. The first half-ish of the episode will be giving time to Rajan Zahi and Dominicus to react to the situation and begin to make their moves, keeping a very watchful but distant eye on Suletta Mercury.
The lunchroom scene and Miorine's gamer moment shouldn't interfere, but now that there's no big court scene, the time will be dedicated to Suletta and trying to figure out the whole bride-to-be thing while juggling her first assignments in the piloting course. Note the material she's been given, I want Shin G-Witch to lean much harder in on the militarized school angle.
The pair bicker a bit with Miorine wondering how Suletta can be a pilot and not know some of this and Suletta's frustrated in-turn with Miorine's patient impatience but doesn't sense any malice from her.
This is a subtle change in Suletta's character in that she's a bit more perceptive of when people are trying to hurt/bully her. Think back to when she was unphased by the comment on her hairband in ep. 1, I think the original approach is actually very nuanced but for some of the characterization I'm aiming for, it would be difficult to work with. I imagine in Shin's version of that scene, Suletta would become agitated almost-but-not-quite to tears (gonna save that until ep. 4/equivalent like the OG) until things started exploding, to keep emphasizing her dual nature.
Re: Witch From Mercury/Shin G-Witch Pt. 4 its a bit too much for this series to actually go episode by episode fully, so I'll be appending text as more floating thoughts of scenes with no definitive place. This one got long.
“The marine corps? You’re sure, Felsi?”
In my vision of a Witch From Mercury redo, Felsi and Petra are a bit more present in the story and their purpose is to show us a glimpse of the process of student -> soldier through Asticassia and the ingrained military culture that lies within it. And then eventually perhaps coming around from bigotry and ignorance to understanding and empathy. Though I’m aware that’s tread Guel’s ground so its up in the air, I think disagreements between the three on their ideologies as the story progresses and challenges their assumptions could be interesting.
Anyway, more immediately: Sometime shortly after the first episode, we’ll get a scene where we can see the duo as more than just schoolyard bullies, they’re here for a reason. Felsi is still loyal to the Jeturk Heavy Machinery and its house. The exact reason why is not something I’ve pinned down but I would like it to be genuine.
But the reason why she wants to be a *marine* specifically, I have an idea, here’s the hook: Felsi is actually very fascinated with Earth, as like the planet itself, if not necessarily the people who inhabit it. *She wants to see the ocean*. (and before yall come at me about ripping GQX, this was an idea BEFORE that) And joining Jeturk’s Marine Corps seems to be the simplest and most logical route to that end of being a pineapple under the sea. Also it lets us canonize the Hosler as being an amphibious MS, which were SORELY SORELY missed in WFM and I’d love for them to have more screentime (especially later in the series when things heat up)
This sets up 2 guns: The first is basically a guarantee, in a later episode, during an amphibious exercise reflecting a military op, Felsi’s Hosler II malfunctions and loses power, sinking to the bottom of an artificial body of water - one large enough to mimic a respectable fishing lake on Earth. The exercise was closely mimicking a real scenario - radio silence was observed and, though the students are being monitored through various means above-water, it was to test the students planning and teamwork skills. The squad of Hoslers surface at a rendezvous point, sans Felsi. Did she get lost? Just lagging behind a bit? Following her own plan? No one’s sure and if they call for SOS from the staff, the exercise is declared a failure automatically per the scenario that they’d be operating alone. On Felsi’s end, the cockpit’s gone dark save for backup lights, every attempt at using the radio returns static. The external pressure and internal panic builds. She guts the panel in search of a solution for the radio, she needs to call for help. It would lower their grade but still be within “mission parameters”, realistically.
Petra’s one of the students observing the exercise as part of her curriculum. A minute passes, two… She’s getting antsy, she cares about Felsi. “I’m calling it off, this could be an emergency.” Another student urges her to wait, they don’t know how much time it would take to even find Felsi if they launched a rescue right now. Petra shudders at the implication.
Cut over to Suletta and Miorine, they’re performing some routine checks and maintenance on Aerial. Use this time for a conversation between them to build them out a bit. When appropriate, Aerial’s radio crackles to life - it’s Felsi’s voice broadcasting in the blind to anyone who can hear. The pair realize the situation, and Suletta is immediately springing to action - fully booting up Aerial. Miorine protests, they have safety measures and know what they’re doing. Suletta has none of it, “I have to help.” she holds the radio transmission and responds, “Suletta Mercury, Aerial, responding. ETA…” she looks over to the direction of the artificial lake, guesstimating in her head momentarily. “...1 minute.”
She launches with thunderous determination and takes flight. A bird’s-eye view shot as she reaches the water’s edge. Her bits deploy, spreading out like a flock from their origin and projecting deep-penetrating LIDAR beams. We zoom out to see their incredible width of coverage, putting to shame any conventional means of search and rescue in speed and breadth. Suletta locates the stranded Hosler and dives in, Aerial’s chassis groaning - it was *not* designed for this, but it will hold for a minute, and that’s all she needs. Aerial pulls an external emergency release on the Hosler, its entire cockpit is jettisonned and deploys inflatable air sacs, pulling it to the surface. Aerial breaks the surface shortly after and a dazed Felsi is face-to-face with her savior, relief mixing with indignance… “Mercu-girl!?”
…
That went on longer than I intended. Going forward, I dont want to treat these blurbs as definitive, but rather musings. They may contradict eachother or some info in the show, the takeaway is just the general idea, a “draft zero” at most.
The 2nd gun would be Felsi can reach earth, see the ocean she dreamed of but not a bright beautiful blue sheen, instead a sad, polluted dump of floating waste and industrial chemicals. There she directly faces when the Spacian corporate powers have done to Earth’s very nature.

Vestan Loyalists/Resistance with a captured C-60 Kerberos and donated LSA Gilgamesh on routine patrol. Some headcanon embellishments: 1. I hated the idea that the Vestan Resistance was just called the "Vestan Resistance" so I instead called them the Vestan Democratic Army (ΔΣΒ). It wasn't until I posted this in a discord where the GM told me they were formally called "The Loyalists"
2. Their symbol is an olive wreath and their new flag for the Sovereignty, should they win, would be an golden olive wreath on a deep, vibrant green background.
3. The HA Legionnaire Battle Rifle is replaced by a local bullpup design that achieves the same purpose, just more suited to the LSA regimen and logistics.
This is so cool, I love the scrappy, dirty vibe of the Kerberos and how it contrasts with the printer fresh look of the donated Gilgamesh.
Pilot art is wonderful but I love seeing setting pieces like this too.
I'm actually running the first session of Solstice Rain tomorrow for my TTRPG group so seeing this was a welcome surprise.
thanks! here's a version i did with a very few-minute-rush-job BG that i wanted to keep separate from the post to keep it neat and clean, and because they kind of get lost in the background (which i'd imagine you would realistically HOPE happens), i was wanting to post it later but this feels like a fine post to reblog it off of
