18. “It’s late, shouldn’t you be asleep?”
“It’slate, shouldn’t you be asleep?”
You choked on a gulp of water andsputtered, water dribbling down your chin as laughter echoed from behind you. Wipingyour mouth with your sleeve, you turned to look at the source of the voice, notthat you needed to see his wiry figure or his silver hair dimly illuminated bythe light of the television to know it was Rick. You hoped, though, he’d seethe glare you were trying very hard to shoot him.
“How many times have I told you notto just portal into my house? Especially at this hour! Christ, can’t you atleast text me a few minutes in advance to let me know you’re coming?” you spat,following him with your eyes as he approached and rounded the side of couch. “You’drip me a new one if I just appeared in your garage with no warning.”
“Well, that’s ‘cause if I’m in thegarage, I’m actually-I’m actually doing something important,” he replied, smirkingas his eyes flicked between you and the TV. You clenched your teeth, a thousandretorts threatening to spill from your mouth from indignation, mostly at theimplication that you don’t do anything important. In the end, you decided tohold your tongue - you knew better than to argue with Rick. You wanted to enjoyyour evening.
“So, uh, w-w-what’cha watching?” Hedrew his flask from the inside of his coat and signaled towards the screen withit before twisting open the cap and taking a short pull. He licked the trace ofrum from his upper lip as he took a seat next to you and hastily kicked off hisloafers. You watched as they landed haphazardly on the carpet - such comicallystereotypical old man shoes. A smilenearly crept onto your face, but the impulse was stifled when you rememberedyou were supposed to be annoyed and answering his question. You hadn’t yetdecided whether you wanted to respond sincerely when Rick reached over to snatcha corner of your blanket, ending your monopoly on its warmth.
“What? Yeah, okay, I’ve got-I’vegot several self-defense mechanisms built into my body but I don’t have one tor-r-regulate my body temperature. Sue me.” With a final, assertive tug that yankedit from your grip, he threw his end of the blanket over his torso, leaving aconvenient gap near the side of the couch for his arm that was meant tofacilitate in draining his flask. Instinctively, your eyes rolled and youmumbled something about him being a blanket thief as you pressed the buttonthat would start the next episode.
Within moments, you the smile you’dbeen repressing finally took over and betrayed the exasperation you were tryingto convey. You could see from the corner of your vision that Rick was alreadyfixated on the TV and you wondered how good his peripherals were – hopefully notgood enough to notice you grinning like a fool. But with his hand resting onyour knee underneath the blanket, fingers drumming along to a new episode’sintroduction, and his body next to you providing a warmth you could have neverachieved binge-watching the hours away alone, how could you stay mad?
53. “Who cares about what they think?”

You bityour lip and looked away from his furrowed brow, unsure how to respond. Younever thought he’d ask you to come by his house, which you were glad for. Yet,in an unexpected turn of events, here he was, casually inviting you to come byto check out some new invention. Rather than simply decline, you becameflustered, raising Rick’s suspicion.You were in no way prepared to explain thatyou were terrified of interacting with his family.
“Look,if they don’t like me having you over, you can tell them to fuck off. Or I cando it. Doesn’t really matter. They don’t have to know that we fuck each other’sbrains out. Anyway, Morty will be too anxious to come near you, Summer doesn’t giveenough of a shit about anything, and Beth lets me do what I want as long as I’mnot corrupting her precious children. And if Jerry - fucking Jerry - tries togive me shit, I’m gonna piss in his goddamn gas tank. Alright?” He positionedhimself next to you and draped an arm around your shoulders, using his otherhand to draw his portal gun. “Come look at my Luggage Assembler 2000, itdetermines the most efficient configuration for clothes you’re trying to packin a suitcase- and then packs it for you!”
He’dhardly finished his sentence when the green glow of a portal illuminated Rick’sface, and you noticed as it suddenly became stern. “Urgh, maybe- maybe youshould help me come up with a better name for it.”
93. “You’re more than that.”
“Look, we’vebeen fucking around for a while now, and you’re a good lay, I just wanna-UUURRPmake that clear. You’re a really good lay. But you’re more than that.”
At anyother time, this admission may have been sweet, even tender for Rick’sstandards, but you were too preoccupied with being frozen in fear. “Rick, Ireally appreciate it and I would love to hear more, but can you please fuckingwatch where you’re going?
Yournails dug into the seat underneath you, eyes searching wildly for some kind ofsolution to the fact that your drunk pilot was careening through a field ofasteroids, though you didn’t know exactly what that solution could be. Maybeautopilot - hell, maybe even an ejector seat button to put you out of yourmisery.
“I’mnot looking for any-any-any relationship bullshit - been there, done that,fucked it up ev-uuurp-ery time,” Rick continued, making no acknowledgement ofwhat you just said, or of the rocks rushing dangerously close to the ship. He lazilysteered the ship through the asteroid belt that he’d claimed moments before wasa shortcut back home. One hand loosely gripped the steering wheel while theother was wrapped around a rapidly emptying bottle, its contents splashing outonto either the controls or Rick’s shirt with each jerk of the ship. “I don’tw-w-w-wanna do that to you. Hurt you, or whatever. You’re fuckin’ special or-or-or something, I don’tknow, but I don’t wanna kill myself when I’m around you so… that probably meanssomething. Yo-uurgh-really oughta get away while you can. Anyway, look, I gottatake a shit, so, take over, will ya?”
His request caught you so off-guard, he was alreadystumbling into the back of the spaceship before the gravity of his request hityou. Between launching yourself into the pilot’s side of the ship in order todesperately maneuver your way to safety and trying to absorb the information hejust divulged, you couldn’t even think to remind Rick that there’s no bathroomin his cruiser.
meh I can feel myself losing interest in r&m for the time being, I know when season 4 comes out I’ll be hyped but right now it’s hard to not have stuff to look forward to in the immediate future.
I wish I had made this blog earlier so I could’ve enjoyed more of season 3 with all of y’all.
