I made my first gif
Idk why but this lives rent free in the noodle
Actually the worst thing in the world is alphabetical lists that put titles begining with "The" under the "T" section
Always attend another cultureās event on an empty stomach. Thereās nothing people love sharing more than our culinary traditions with others.
i recently found out the funniest thing about big horses recently which is that for centuries humans have sworn that the feathering on big horseās legs has been bred in there for a reason, and the reason given is usually something to do with how it helps keep the joints warm and safe when the big horse is doing hauling work in fields.
the thing is: it doesnāt appreciably do that, because the feathers wick up water and mud, which cancels out any insulation advantage they might hypothetically confer, and also it wasnāt even put there on purpose.
the Leg Get More Hair gene is just linked to the Bones Get More Big gene. when you breed any lineage of horses to have bigger bonesānot just taller, but chunkierāthe leg hair just happens anyway. so every single breed of draft horse has feathered legs, and even carriage horses like friesians get feathers once they hit a certain threshold of lorge.
when you supersize your horse, mother nature throws in a free pair of booties. how cool is that?
Ahhh, what a great example of linked traits! And also shows why evolution gets so complicated
This is the bane of selective breeding.Ā āThis trait you want? Itās linked to this other thing that makes you want to pull your hair out.ā
sometimes
I make myself watch media about suicide
It used to make me hurt, just hearing the word
But now I promise myself
It wonāt be me
I wonāt let them be at my funeral, I wonāt let them mourn
I will not let my mother bury her child
I will not make my partner a widow
And I will not join my daughter prematurely- if I die, who remembers my baby? She was my baby, inside me.
this is how we fix society
not me realizing at 6AM that I never figured out how to socialize with kids my age and learned interactions through therapy so I talk to everyone like I talk to a therapistš„“
If you have a senior to check on ask them to "borrow" something small so they think they're helping you.
My mom (72) recently downsized and moved close enough to me that checking on her in person regularly is not really out of my way, but when I was obvious about it she wouldnāt let me āstop-byā because she was, āfineā.
Well, one day I actually needed some aluminum foil so I called and asked if I could borrow enough to cover a baking tin because I didnāt want to run to the store. She said sure, but when I got to her house she needed furniture moved, a wasp nest removed, and her coffee pot fixed. After I got the foil I mentioned each thing cautiously and she let me take care of them for her. So next weekend Iāll need a cup of rice and check on her again.
Even better, hereās an array of more reciprocal options for building relationship & supporting seniorsā dignity and independence:
- ask for something they can actually help you with. Elders have skills. Mending? Advice about knitting, gardening, home repair, nevermind professional training?
-ask about their experiences. āI was reading about xyz event the other day & I would love to know what that time was like for you. Can we chat about it over tea?ā Goes double for family history for relatives.
-āSomeone gave me this [or, I ended up with extra] & I donāt need/want it, but I bet you have a use for it. Can I bring it over? I would hate for it to go to waste.ā
-work side-by-side. They get your physical help, you get their experience & expertise. āCould I come over & have you show me how you [used to] prune your gorgeous roses? Iām trying to get better with mine.ā

You deserve to love yourself the same way you love others. You deserve your compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. You forgive others when they make mistakes, you deserve to offer yourself the same courtesy. You are worthy of love. It is hard to love yourself, but know that you absolutely deserve to be able to. I believe in you.
