Reaching for air {Clarice + Amanda}

Jonettta Johnson could tell both Jimmy and Amanda some pointers about dealing with a rookie like Clarice Starling. The TV reporter had broke the story with the recording of her phone though if Ms. Johnson had waited, she would have realized the head in the garage was just the tip of the ice burg. Nope, had to have the story. Had to throw an injunction on Starling and now she couldn’t get anywhere near close.

But Jimmy was right, Starling didn’t like reporters. She felt incredibly nervous around reporters though it didn’t quite show. With the TV crew it hadn’t been for her they were swarming for but the body. Now? Now she was in their sights and anything that Dr. Lecter could give her was free game.

So beyond herself, though. There were eight dead girls. There would be yet another if she spoke too much or not enough. She couldn’t give the reporters more than she could Dr. Lecter. Even here he had his resources though he’s not seen the sun and the one ash blonde hair is becoming more silver and iron.

Clarice Starling didn’t look like a threat, long red hair braided tight and lovely face pale without a touch of make up. Her coat has a hounds tooth pattern and she wears a sun yellow scarf, her head duck low as cheap heels clack on pavement. She notices the other vibrancy of red hair from the corner of her eye. She heads to her Honda Civic not parked too far away that’s used interchangeably with a SVU or Crown Victoria.

Amanda spotted the red head making her way towards her vehicle and swiftly jumped to her feet to catch up to her. "Miss Starling!" Her voice cracked for a moment, lack of water she suspected, so she tried again after clearing her throat. "Miss Starling, may I have a minute of your time?"

Normally the girl never ran around with a camera crew unless she had to get footage. Her work was based on interviews or anything she could type up without a video and only a soundbite. Either way, big bulky cameras were a hassle and her camera man wasn't up for going along with this, so she had to handle this one by herself -- exactly how she liked it.

"My name is Amanda Williams. I'm a journalist and I was hoping I could possibly get to interview you over lunch or something. Any time." The words nearly vomited out were quick and breathless as she finally found herself right beside the woman. "Whatever you say is off the record, is off the record. I'm not money hungry or looking to burn anyone." By now she was sure she sounded just a tad bit desperate.

Strange Times || Abel + Amanda {CLOSED}

"Oh, I get journalists," Abel Gideon says, watching the woman carefully. "Not usually at this time of night." The doctor stands, peering down as she sits on the floor. "And I am not keen on anyone picking my brain, let alone some reporter looking for infamy on my coattails."

Amanda nodded her head, eyes averting towards the ground as a coy smile tried to pull at the edge of her lips. "Freddie Lounds, possibly?" No matter how hard she tried in this town it seemed another red head was two steps ahead of her.

"Well..then." She stood to her feet, straightening out her skirt and walking back up the hallway, leaving her coat behind on the floor. Returning with two styrofoam cups of coffee and a couple hundred dollars less. This was going to take a bit longer than she had expected. "How about we ignore your deeds and instead I get to know Abel."

Making her way towards the bars, she offered one of the cups to Gideon with a smile on her lips. "Off the record, of course."

Rainy Days || Charles + Amanda {CLOSED}

Amanda glanced down at the piece of drenched paper in the palm of her pale hands, the ink had run along her skin mixing in with the droplets of water that was currently falling from the night sky. Usually she visited homes during the day but had only arrived an hour before and had been trying to find the location ever since. Someone she knew had given her the lead on this after hours of begging and pleading. Due to the little she knew, she hoped that maybe the man would be up for an interview. If not, she would of course understand if he wanted it off the record or not at all.

Charles Stoker. Thirty-five years old. Released from the institute nineteen days ago. He had been admitted due to the fact that he, supposedly, murdered his younger sibling. If this didn’t scream bigger than life, then she didn’t know what did.

Walking up to the door had a surreal feel to it. She could easily ask and get it slammed back into her face or get allowed inside without any harsh words. Either way she was ready for whichever came next because following up on a lead with as much punch as this one packed made her feel alive again, as if the past few years she had been dead to the world.

She lifted her hand, balled it into a fist and rapped it three times. “Mr. Stoker?” She called out, unaware if he preferred others to use a courtesy title or not. “My name is Amanda Williams, I was hoping I could have a second of your time?” Throwing her name out there was meant to see if he knew who she was or not. Her stories were front page news, when she had them and her novel didn’t hit it off as great as she had hoped, but it did leave a space for her in the minds of a couple hundred others.

Time || Will + Amanda {CLOSED}

The classroom held an air that made Amanda feel as though she wanted to wrap her pale fingers around her own throat and strangle herself. In a good way—of course. Every student seemed to be so comfortable in the setting, of course if she had attended as many of these as they had – she was certain that it would be the same for her. But this had been the first time.

Sneaking into the building hadn’t been easy. First, she had to be searched by the guard she tipped off to let her in. He had to be certain she had nothing on her but the recorder hidden beneath the hem on her pencil skirt. She had stood out among the issued uniforms that the students wore, but her shirt was similar enough to keep eyes away from her when looking at the waist up.

Patiently waiting as the students cleared the room as the lecture was rounding an end, she stood to her feet. Heels silent among the carpeted room. All she had to go on was the word of Freddie Lounds and various others she had talked with earlier that day. Will Graham had been assisting the bureau recently with cases – one involving a young teenage girl who had almost died in the hands of her father, had Graham not shot him ten times in the chest.  

All she wanted to do was set the record straight, fill in the blanks and reintroduce Will Graham to the world in a different light, but the problem with that was—he seemed like a really out of reach kind of guy—especially to journalists.

“Will Graham…” She began as she made her way towards his desk. “..my name is Amanda Williams. You gave one hell of a lecture. I was just hoping if I could have a moment of your time.” The name plug was enough to let anyone who knew her fill in the blanks of why she was there. Following stories along with her novel had landed her name in very few minds, just not her face.
