𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐋, well! As if his favorite dance partner hasn't already derived Akira's answer! Nevertheless, a dark-haired devil of his caliber is all too familiar with the decorum of an invitation, settling into his role with a gentleman's bow.

There's no worth to a performance if its only act is a curtain call.

So without further ado, Akira finally captures Minato's waiting hand within his, lips composing a prelude of kisses he plays across the back of it; soft in a rising waltz beginning at the fold of his pretty fingers, past the swell of his knuckles until it brings Akira's display of devotion to a tender rest at the base of his wrist with a pleased smile.

𝐇𝐎𝐖 her voice comforts him so, nestling beyond his senses into the hollows of his bones with such warmth that he swears the sound glows like sunlight to him from where he lazes, head resting upon her lap in a curl akin to a tamed big cat's, fully submitting to the fingertips flitting lovingly through its fur. Or more specifically: Akira's messy mop of curls.

& when Akira's eyes focus upwards in a slow flick, he drinks in the sweetness of her cherry-wine stare, love-drunk mind stumbling over an answer her presence nearly reverts back into a blueprint, nearly lost to the doze that threatened to take him under from how gently she coos her words like a cradle song.

He breathes in then, deep & soothed & safe in a way he punctuates with a hum of satisfaction.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 thought halts him, rolled back & forth by his reasoning like a ball of yarn at the mercy of a cat's paws. & for an instant, Akira's voice can only find itself in the adagio of a dulcet hum. A brief ode to Minato's curiosity, an element known to be dangerous to those at a distance. Yet for his quiet inquirer, their closeness reaps the sweeter reward of a proper answer, sown as a tenderness that dulls the edges of all that is Akira as stone would a blade ― palpable in its softness illustrated by the unguarded slump of his shoulders. The idle, languid sway of the pencil perched between his fingers; his weapon of choice for the crossword puzzle resting on the café countertop.

“ Dad, ” he begins slowly, as if testing the weight of the word on his tongue, “ I guess? ”

“ He told me it was something to do. Something to keep me out of trouble while I was staying here ― you know. ” he continues, empty hand cutting through the air with a dismissively carefree flick.

“ It's more... challenging? No ― more complex than what it looks like. I like that. Plus getting paid is always a nice bonus, even if it wasn't like that at first. ”

Did he meant to shot the duck? yes! Now did he meant for the duck lightbulb to hit Akira after shooting it down? Nope, not at all. So the very moment he saw the lightbulb hit Akira, he paused the game & restarted the level. "Sorry." (CUPHEAD DUDE ITS ROUGH OUT HERE)

“ 𝐃𝐎𝐍❜𝐓 sweat it, ” Akira's smile quirks to the side, awash in amusement over his Player 2's sweet-hearted consideration. “ You're fine. ”

Considering the variety of things this game constantly threw at them, he couldn't blame Minato for struggling to take off without a few hitches. Besides, Akira wasn't exactly immune from making his own fair share of mistakes. A single mistimed jump to a platform he couldn't recover from & his composure would be well on its way to shattering ― that is, if he hadn't already failed to dodge a projectile that just so happened to be place in the perfect position to ( put it simply ) fuck him up.

As the voice of the announcer settles them into the start of their next wallop, he nuzzles into Minato affectionately, waging an internal war with the strongest boss of all: the urge to kiss him before he'd be the next reason their characters drop dead.

“ 𝐖𝐇𝐘? ” he asks, baritone coy as it damns Minato a drawl dripping with a trickster's intent. An acknowledgement as well as an open dismissal, casting aside his wishes without the slightest attempt in heeding them. Not even a sting follows, a commonality that often settles within the chests of others at the sharpness of his beloved's words. But Akira is no one else but himself ( no longer a mere mortal, a god ) & to him, the pink pout of his lips is armed with the equivalent of cupid's arrow, a prick he takes straight to the heart alongside the idea of kissing him breathless.

“ It's insane how well it suits you, ” Akira smiles, a mischievous little thing that quirks to the side in a lazy curl.

“ Do you really want me to take it off? That might be counterproductive. ”

blah blah word salad of a thought involving the religious associations, metaphors, and depictions on this blog and the connection between akira's weapon and his young godhood. the metamorphic concept of it evolving beyond being an extension of himself. how the look and shape of the blade remains the same yet its significance shifts, twists and turns and transcends until the handle starts feeling lighter and lighter in his hold. until it strays heavily from what it means to make a cut, becoming less of an act and more of a liturgical dissection. a blasphemous desire: bleed for me, whispers the blade, no longer a baselard but a sacrificial dagger in the hands of his idolatry. bleed for me, for splitting thy flesh is but a sacrament.
