*looks at polyamorous triad* so which of you is the soldier and which is the poet and which is the king
this is the perfect reblog post cancelled
More Speed Racer doodles cause the autism is here✨
And also more doodles of my “ Bluetooth”au where the racer are psychicly linked to their cars and need cybernetic augmentation in order to drive them.
I’m also poly shipping these 3 dumbasses (Sparky/Trixie/Speed) although Speed is absolutely oblivious to them being into him.
I have a headcanon that Sabu/Sparky has a tiny crush on Racer X
honestly sometimes sparky had some gay shit going on with speed so he might just have a type
juno steel's galaxy is one of dome cities and laser blasters that can be set to stun or kill, a privileged local solar system and a struggling remote outer rim, a recently ended galactic civil war. It's a space faring humanity that is still very human; there aren't robots walking around all over the place and the only aliens are long dead remains, and all the real power is in the hands of eccentric billionaires running shady megacorps. Its a pretty straightforward setting largely composed of classic scifi tropes and elements shared with our modern day. people are still using cell phones and just calling them comms!
and I think this serves to make the setting feel familiar and welcoming even to a first time listener. its not scifi with a high bar for entry. we don't need to hear about what the solar government actually looks like or does outside of Dark Matters' hazy authority, all we need is this steady and comprehensible ground for all the little details and actually off the wall stuff that makes juno steel's galaxy truly unique and memorable to spring off of.
this is also a galaxy where even the stun setting on a blaster has a very tiny chance of killing someone with a heart condition, and campy scifi names like "mick mercury" are mixed in with a noticeably high number of japanese and russian inspired names. real world situations of healthcare monopolies and employment schemes taking advantage of refugees who don't speak the language are mixed together to create the blood filtration slavery system that is so influential on the plot. The general lack of aliens makes the reveal of Ruby and the Curemother Prime all the cooler and stranger in contrast, and it enables s1's slow reveal of just how alien the ancient martians truly were--shapeshifting, telepathic, asexually reproducing--and then the punch that they died from an incredibly human sentiment that mirrors what our human protagonist has been going through this whole time. The Hanataba clinics, the Guardian Angel System, all the different fucked up prisons... all fleshing out a galaxy that at first glance can seem a touch cliche
its a really interesting way of worldbuilding
I see how expressive the storyboards are for total drama and it lowkey makes me wish the show was traditionally animated
apologies for it containing ai upscales but this is reminding me of this youtube thumbnail I saw once where the way it was framed made it look like Speed transitioned into Trixie at the end of the show
oh look at me and my cutie girlfriend, with our long eyelashes and loving relationship with one another and family
plus my car so fast
Everyone always talks about how similar Speed is to Rex, which obviously, but I don't think enough people talk about the similarities between Spritle and Rex. Like, the obvious comparison for Speed and Rex is there love of racing and being racecar drivers, but Rex is also a secret agent and loves being a secret agent, which isn't really something Speed have a passion for. He even says in the preparation for the Casa Cristo montage, that he's only helping with the case to protect his family, not because he has an interest in it outside that. But you know who's a secret agent in the making? Spritle! He's covert, always sneaking into places he's not supposed to be (ie: Royalton's secret lab and all the times he sneaks into the back of the Mach 5). He retains information really well, even when you think he's not paying attention (ie: how long did Royalton say he could build a car? 36 hours!). He knew about the spear hooks before anyone else did. He was adaptive in the fight with the crooks, implementing a move he'd watched Speed do earlier against the ninjas when he was fighting the goons in the mountain pass. He had a active interest in seeing the bad guys go to jail (ie: Take them away boys). All I'm saying is that I think Spritle would be thrilled to find out he shared an interest with Rex, especially growing up and maybe feeling like the odd one out with how much everyone always talks about how much Speed and Rex were alike.
I see this and raise you that Speed and Spritle are ALSO very alike.
The first character in the film we focus on is a Speed when he's around Spritle's age... And he's EXACTLY like Spritle. He's begging his older brother to take him to the race track. He's running time tables with Pops during the actual races. He watches racing broadcasts that he knows he's not supposed to because he loves the sport so much and he wants to see his brother on television. And to your one of your points: The CLIMAX of the film hinges on Speed remembering a conversation him and Rex had when Speed was that young.
Speed only starts to become more like Rex when he sees just what his brother was up against, and at that point in the film Spritle becomes this reflection of Speed's younger self- which is driven home when Speed almost leaves and Spritle asks if he can join him not unlike he had to Rex all those years before.
There's a cyclical nature to all three of the boys in where they have similar childhoods and end up on similar paths, but they diverge in different ways too. I genuinely believe if we had gotten the planned sequel it would've put more focus on this aspect of the family.
I haven't really used this blog much since Penumbra ended. I've still been making stuff for it occasionally but I've been into other series lately (Namely Speed Racer) so I'll probably be more frequently posting on my main @thievingandromeda instead of here.

He’s holding a clutch purse. /End description]

finally!! all my comics for season two of juno steel are finished. such a long season but such a good one!!! enjoy, and here are the comics for season one if you missed them.
It just now occurred to me that if the British monarchy keeps going as planned I’m probably going to see a King George show up in my lifetime and I’m sorry but the idea of there being a king called George again sets off my “throw stuff into the harbor” instincts.
