✿ On Patrol ;; GAREKI ✿
Days in Clow Kingdom were hot. But that was to be expected of a desert, of course. Really, it came as no surprise that Sakura had grown quite accustomed to warm climates and the outfit she often sported was the perfect material to wear during the day when the sun set highest in the sky. At night, however? Not so much. When the temperatures in the Kingdom would drop, the Princess would change into something warmer just before curling up into bed with a smile on her face and sleep on her mind. It was thanks to the few feathers retrieved for her that the brunette was able to recall such memories about her home.
But things here were different. Her precious companions were nowhere to be found nor did there seem to be a single feather in sight. The air was freezing cold and it was so dark that the brunette could barely see her own hand when held in front of her face. The only thing keeping her warm and giving her guidance was the cloak of her outfit around her shoulders and the small, pink glow stick gifted to her for being a new member of Team Five. It was too bad that a glow stick didn’t offer much light nor did a cloak attached to an outfit that hung loosely from her shoulders and revealed most of her midriff. However, Sakura was never one to complain. Instead, she counted her blessings— however few they may be.
The voice of her fellow team members caught the girl’s fluttering attention just in time for her to wave a short ‘farewell’ to them. Being the weakest link, the rest of them were off to search the area for food and gnomes while she would stay behind in the Mirror House. However, one other person seemed to stand still and the brunette found herself slowly approaching him, warm smile intact on even such a cold day. Or was it night? The dark made it hard to tell.
“You didn’t want to go with them?" She stood beside the other, her gaze never leaving the backs of their other partners as they all faded into black with the distance being pushed between them. Pausing for a moment, the Princess takes this quiet opportunity to bring her hands up to her face and blow her breath against her chilled fingertips. "I would have liked to help, but…" Her words are muffled by her palms but she hopes the other can still make out the words she’s saying, "I would have only gotten in the way.”
It's freezing. Freezing. His normal attire countered some of the chilling temperatures on it's own - however, even a jacket couldn't keep the cold from seeping into his bones. In this kind of environment, the best method for warmth would be movement, but despite knowing this, he decided to stay behind at the Mirror House when it was time for patrols. Gareki had bigger fish to fry, all of which were currently simmering in the frying pan of his brain.
A week to go. If they could last a week without getting out, then he'd have his weapons back and a better method of defense, not only for himself, but for those he cared for. This team switch threw a bit of a wrench into things, as anticipated by that half-baked bear, no doubt, but everyone seemed to be adjusting pretty well.
It's in the middle of these thoughts that a small voice reaches his ears, and the teen looks up, expression reflecting just the slightest hint of surprise; not that she could see much of it in the dark, even with their glow sticks.
"....Not my thing." he answers, sparing a glance in her direction before looking away into the pitch-black surrounding them. "If they want run around blind and fight to the death over a lawn ornament, let them." Grunt.
He lapsed into silence, waiting several beats after she'd spoken to respond. "We need more people guarding, any way." Another pause, and then -- "Here," None too ceremoniously, with his glowstick momentarily held between his teeth, the teen pulled his gloves off and practically shoved them at the girl.
It'd be problematic if a teammate got frost bite, after all. Don't think too much of it.
The silence was heavy, but Atobe wasn’t so immature as to be unreasonable and demand someone put an answer together for him at the snap of a finger, not for a matter that seemed as complicated as all this.
When Gareki did speak, Atobe found he himself had much to consider. Another personality, and obviously one that had existed before the trauma of whatever was happening on this island. He remembered Yogi mentioning training for fighting…a world quite obviously different from the one Atobe knew. Just what had the blond been put through?
"And Yogi is unaware of this personality, ahn?" It was more a statement than a question, since Atobe trusted that Yogi would tell him something like that if he had been aware, given him a warning of sorts. "This Yogi…seems to share some of Yogi’s awareness. He behaves a certain way towards some people, and then seems almost confused as to why."
A pause was given before he ended with what had been bothering him at the back of his head. “A side effect…of his body being weakened. It must be because he died twice then. Because ore-sama failed to protect him.”
He listened to the other talk; he listened to him throwing his speculations out there, only offering up a nod when he hit the mark. To his last statement, however, Gareki's mouth twisted into a scowl. "Idiot." Not for failing, but rather--
Without moving his head, his sharp attention abruptly focused on the teen seated beside him, annoyance written all over his features. "You really think there was something you could have done? Yogi's going to exhaust himself and turn back eventually, and he's not going to remember much, if anything. The last thing he needs is someone he cares about blaming themselves for what happened."
This would probably be the closest he ever got to admitting concern, even if the words did sound harsh. Not only that, but they were hypocritical. But it was something he himself needed to hear - as well as Atobe.
"Stop it."
Expression unchanging, Atobe examined the other before carefully piecing together his reply. The raven wasn’t exactly being forthcoming at the moment, but given the topic, perhaps it was something to be thankful for. He would get his answers though, even if he would allow the other to ease into the topic.
Still, there was an absence of a smile, not even his trademark arrogant smirk, which was perfectly reasonable given how heavy the past events had been on him. Losing Yogi, having him return only for him to not quite seem like Yogi…
"He’s been like this ever since he revived after Gooey killed him."
He was surprised the words hadn’t caught in his throat. He hadn’t even been able to apologise for his failings because of this…other Yogi.
"I....see." Was all he said to begin with, eyes downcast and inexpressive. After a stretch of silence that seemed to go on forever, the teen sat back and readjusted his goggles, giving a heavy sigh. "Yogi's not exactly Yogi. Obviously, but I say that with extra emphasis." Being in that coma had put a lot of things into perspective for him - one, being his memories, which were way less clouded. "This is his 'other personality'. The fact that it happened right after he -- died..."
He wasn't so much explaining anymore as working the thoughts that had been running through his mind aloud, with Atobe along for the ride. "It's a side effect of his body being weakened."

Die.
After the excitement of running around with everyone else in search of the “gnyome” thing (and talking to that very rude muscle man, then running away), Tao had become bored. Again, she had forgotten what everyone was supposed to be doing and why. It didn’t help there seemed to be no food around. Tao worked best when she had food in her.
She was starting to get hungry. Really hungry. Didn’t she hear something earlier about food arriving? She decided to go investigate around the team base since everyone else seemed too busy to ask.
That’s when she saw it. It was a small stash, but it was still food, and when Tao was hungry there was no stopping her. "Food, food, food♪,” she sang to herself before starting to wolf down whatever looked edible. At this rate, she was going to eat everything there unless someone came to stop her. Even so, it would be hard to stop her in this state.
Today seemed to be wearing on his patience the most. Their period of rest was over, but the past few hours had been uneventful at best. He'd wandered around base for a while, alternating between looking after the food and pacing back and forth to prevent dying from boredom. Two weeks of this? What a pain. There were people he needed to see outside of this amusement park.
Gareki was about to resort to messaging one of the other's for an update when a small voice reached his ears:
"Food, food, food♪,”
What the hell? The teen spun around, eyes narrowing at the sight he was confronted with. "H-hey! That's for everybody!" To say that he was irritated by now was an understatement. Marching over, he stood glaring at the girl like an ominous tower, his arms crossed.
"Honestly...do you want us all to starve?"
"How about we go back to my place? I’ve got board games."
He doesn’t see how it could hurt. Shrug.
"As long as it’s not anything weird, I don’t mind." Weird, meaning Twister. Or anything else that requires one to get up close and personal.
"He’s dead, let’s move on."
Wow that hit way too close to home nice job. "You don’t tell me what to do. Fuck off."
It had been a messy first day with any semblance of a plan falling apart due to idiots who acted on their emotions more than anything, but now that a ceasefire had been called, there wasn’t much he could do to try and set things right.
Instead, he takes advantage of this lull to seek out information. He hadn’t had the time to clarify anything with the raven yesterday, given that circumstances had them preoccupied, so what better time than the present?
Approaching Gareki within their base (boy was it hot today. Is his shirt unbuttoned to the 2nd button? don’t worry though, nothing indecent - yet) he takes a seat next to the the other.
"Oi. About Yogi…You know something, don’t you?"
Cease fire. A day where the body could rest, maybe, but the gears in his mind were whirring even as he appeared to be sitting idly; a piece of pocky hanging from the teen's mouth. The most he'd done to acknowledge the heat was shrugging his jacket off, but otherwise, he didn't seem to mind. He was simply too lost in thought.
Gareki cut his gaze to the unexpected addition to his party of one, mentally wincing at Atobe's mention of Yogi. "Something like that," he grunted, glancing away. "Do you know the exact point...where he 'changed'?"
Being asleep for weeks means that one can miss a lot of events, so he wasn't even aware that the other had changed until...well...everyone started running around with gnomes. It was a tad frustrating, to say the least. He had missed so much - the development of Atobe and Yogi being one of those things, as discovered at the...trial.
