There’s a surprising lack of scientific evidence to bolster that assumption, which two political science graduate students are now seeking to provide.
We all know that campaign money=access to politicians. But now, it’s been (somewhat) scientifically proven! This experiment demonstrated that Democratic members of Congress were five times as likely to meet with a delegation from a liberal organization when they were described as “donors” rather than “constituents” - even when they didn’t know for sure whether the “donors” had given to their campaigns!
Interesting read!
since when do we need to apply Muslim vocabulary to a good ole AMERICAN dirt storm?? Did we move the country or what. I take great offence to such terminology! GO B ACK TO CALLNG THEM DIRT STORMS !!
Judy Sumpter, 13 March, 2014, responds to KCBD-TV's use of the word "haboob". Of note, Sumpter uses the British spelling of "offence". Sumpter further clarified: "Excuse me for using the wrong term, I should have said ARABIC, not Muslim. I do know the difference. Arabic means Arabs, and they are wanting to wipe America off the map. Therefore, I am still offended by the use of the term "haboob" Service men and women have paid the ultimate price fighting these people, and, in my opinion, it is a dishonor to them . I don't care what the word originated from, it's not what dust storms have been called for generations. I can almost hear the people who lived through the Dust Bowl laughing at those of us today trying to be politically correct. Dirt is dirt, no matter where one lives. But, since we live in America, shouldn't we use an American word to describe it. Not a word from a region intent on destroying us, our freedoms, our way of living. So, be I racist or whatever you wish to label, I am still offended!"
Fun hockey fact of the day: The Penguins haven't lost a shootout in two calendar years. Every other team has lost at least 5 since Feb 7, 2012.
wickedsweetcake, 7 February, 2014, reports a Pittsburgh Penguins streak, hours before the streak is broken with a Penguins shootout loss to the New York Rangers. Subsequent updates, "EDIT: fuckshit", followed by, "EDIT2: Well follow Pens fans, this is why the rest of /r/hockey thinks we're dicks sometimes. Thanks."
What a bunch of backward barbarins Indonesia has beome. You let mongoloid terrorists into you country on one-way tickets to abuse Australians. You fucking tree hoppers think its funny. No you backwrd bastards decide to kill anyone who doesn't belive in child rape as promoted by that fucking child molester from 800AD. You're all a warpe bunch of bastards !!!!!!
The Village Idiot, 7 February, 2014, responds to Aceh's (North Sumatra, Indonesia) decision to approve the "Qanun Jinayat (behavior-governing bylaw) that obliges every Muslim and non-Muslim in Aceh to follow sharia, the Islamic legal code." (More details are found in the linked article.) The responses to The Village Idiot's comment: RobbieB, "They deserve it. Problem is, when they have a civl war, they all gonna be wanting come to Oz, and bring their laws and dirty childrin fucking ways with em. "Well... At least they aint gonna be hard to flush out of the crowd.. lol" Rustynails, "And you VI are an embarrassment to the education system. I suggest a course in English and grammar." Nate78, "Unfortunately pedophiles exist in all races and religions. I have never met an Indonesian, Christian, Muslim or otherwise who endorses that sick behaviour. The fact is, most people from all backgrounds are decent people. I don't understand what your comment has to do with sharia in Aceh."
Ah, the petty irony of an ObaMao-loving leftist twit bemoaning the loss of liberty. Your cognitive dissonance is affecting your reasoning abilities, Friedersdorf.
skhpcola, 21 December, 2012, responding to the article, "Scandal Alert: Congress Is Quietly Abandoning the 5th Amendment" by Conor Friedersdorf.
Other comments are less belligerent, and include ones such as, "Further proof that 911 created a form of chronic cowardice in Congress that translates over time into less freedom for all of us. In being made so afraid by 911, Congress falls to turning against the American people in its feeble efforts to appear tough on terrorism," by Roncouples, and, "I taught government to high school students for 12 years. I can hardly believe, even after 8 years of Bush II and 4 years of Obama, how willingly our government has shredded our founding document. The protections we have relied on for over 200 years have vanished before our eyes in well under 20. Both parties are complicit, and few in government seem even to be noticing. There should be hundreds, maybe thousands, of citizens picketing the Capitol over this," by Jerry N. Wesner.
Balancing out the previous two comments is a pair of racist (or otherwise xenophobic) comments: "Foreign-born Muslims should never have been permitted US citizenship to begin with. That was the first transgression on the part of our government. That they then followed it up with liquidating them via drone missiles without benefit of trial is simply an error compounding another error. In the end, those they killed were never really "Americans" to being with. Good riddance to them," by WardKendall, and, "I don't know. Some of these so called citizens are just people who wiggled their way into the country and took a false oath. I have a hard time placing them in the same category as a life long American walking down the street in Indiana. If you're hanging out with your Taliban buddies, you shouldn't get special treatment just because you have a passport of a certain color," by Keith West.
And, finally, rbeccah's "We have always been at war with Oceania," serves as a reminder of the hidden implications of Friedersdorf's subject.
Freedom of speach is at stake here. There is nothing in the constitution denying a citizen of any state the ability to express themselves in religion (ANYWHERE)........of couurse if you are a pagan non believer, usually gay, athiest or some form of pervert you are against the teacher. that is your right. to speak out against it but it is unlawful to deny it inder the US constitution.........but it is dead.

Q & A: What's driving Egypt's unrest? islam
Glen, 30 November, 2012, responding to the article, Q & A: What's driving Egypt's unrest?. This comment is indicative of the rest of the discussion underneath an article focusing on Egyptian president Mohamed Morsy's decision to concentrate power (temporarily, allegedly) on the executive branch by preventing the Egyptian courts from overturning any actions made by the president until the new constitution is ready, in that instead of responding to this political move, they blame a religion.
Christmas is a day to celebrate the Lord. This always reminds me why we celebrate and the importance of the date. I do not mind people from all backgrounds wanting to celebrate together, but they should remember Christmas is a day that exists for the Lord and because of Him. I just do not understand how you can celebrate this holiday in full and watch so many Christmas classics/listen to the songs and feel the warmth without belief in the Almighty Creator and Lover of all.

At the age of 73, I've never seen a more bitterly divided nation.
Martin, 7 November, 2012, responding to the article, "It's a 50-50 nation, give or take". Martin's comment has, presently, 8178 upvotes and 206 downvotes; replies include, "How about a more stupid nation?" by May (626 upvotes and 165 downvotes), and, "Martin, I am 69 and am thankful that I will not see the results of what awaits this country. I feel sorry for my grandkids as they will pay the penalty for our countries liberal/social leanings." by James (848 upvotes and 461 downvotes).
I stood in line for three hours waiting to vote this morning, only to find out that Colorado has no idea that I've lived here for almost eleven years and have already voted here in prior presidential elections. They told me since I hadn't registered 28 days before the current election, I wasn't allowed to vote. Too bad Colorado's registration website hasn't been working properly over the last three months. From what I've heard, I'm not the only one that's run into this problem. Fuck the system. If they purposefully didn't make the whole process more difficult, people would take part in it.
Dirtman73, 6 November, 2012, on the (lack of) ease of voting during the 2012 U.S. Presidential Election. Appears in the article, "No Matter Who You Vote For, Make Sure You Vote". The Washington Post has a list of similar problems and irregularities in other locations.
He said: 'These are the culprits, take them and crucify them,' Is this a solution to the country's problems? Cannibalism?
Prosecutor Iraklis Pasalidis, 1 November, 2012, on Greek journalist Costas Vaxevanis, who released over two-thousand names of potential tax evasion suspects. Greek leaders attempted to prosecute Vaxevanis on privacy charges, but the case was thrown out in court.

Peter-Hill Wood is an arrogant, disrespectful, senile old wanker who is ruining this beautiful club.

How about the NHL sets out a CBA agreement and have each player sign it to agree - you dont want to sign it then get out of the NHL, its that simple!
fchilds, 19 October, 2012. Conversely, this is the highest-rated comment (with a score of +107) in the article, “NHL announces cancellation of games through Nov. 1”.
To be fair to the ratings and commenters, the sixth-highest (with a score of +33) is, "Not sure what you expect the players to do?? They signed contracts stating how much they get paid over a length of time. They agreed to go to 50/50 as long as the owners honor those contracts that BOTH parties signed. They keep saying this is a business, well then operate a FAIR business...you agreed to the contracts that you gave to these players..HONOR them and then lets move on and split HRR 50/50. It's not just about the money, it's the principle in all of it."
People supporting the owners and blaming the players for this mess have absolutely no clue what they're talking about. In any industry, no employee should have to take a pay cut when their employer is enjoying record growth and revenues throughout their employment.
rched26, 19 October, 2012. This is the second-lowest rated comment (with a score of -27) in the article, "NHL announces cancellation of games through Nov. 1".

Not so hard to believe if you have half a brain," in reponse to Easywind, who said, "For all of those who believe 19 cave dwellers from some xxxxxstan did 9/11 I have bridges in Bklyn for sale." Comments appear in the article, "Alleged 9/11 mastermind: America killed more people than hijackers did".
