Fan: so we know there was a lot of behind the scenes nonsense happening in the 80s. How much of a wanker was Eric Saward really?

Sylvester McCoy: he did all of his wanking before I got there

They actually had overwhelmingly nice things to say about John Nathan-Turner. They were saying him that he shielded them a lot from all the politics and nastiness going on with the show's cancelation. They were actually contracted to do another season (six months on and six months off) and when they wrapped Survival and Ghost Light he told them "hey go ahead and take your costumes home with you, because I know you probably have plenty of appearances before we come back" [spoiler, they weren't coming back] and that's why those costumes still exist. He's also why Sophie Aldred got to keep her portrait from that unaired scene in Silver Nemesis. It was all just very very sweet.

I tend to avoid making New Who/Classic Who bts production era comparisons because things have changed soooo much over 60+ years, but I gotta say: Two seasons of lore-heavy and gimmicky stories, an ambiguous hiatus, and the sudden departure of the lead does apply to both Colin Baker’s and Ncuti Gatwa’s runs.

Just watched The Five Doctors with Mr Latinist (the Castellan is going to be at our local con) and am once again thinking about the things I would do for a shot-for-shot remake with Nine through Thirteen.

It works perfectly if you set it at the 60th anniversary. All in the same order, too, *except* now that I think about it Nine should take Four’s place (couldn’t get the actor), not One’s. So he would be represented by some cute unused Nine/Rose footage—they must surely have some.

Ten is paired up with Kate Stewart and sees a phantom of Donna, but knows she can’t be real because she shouldn’t be able to remember him.

Clara is first seen in the diner TARDIS with Lady Me, who warns her of strange readings; when she arrives in the Death Zone and falls down the actual ravine which we can now probably afford, she’s rescued by Eleven on his antigrav motorbike.

Twelve has to take One’s role I guess, and is significantly more legitimately entitled to the grumpy old man pose. Honestly can we just get actual Susan with him? But if not, Bill is a valid thematic substitute for Susan. She never actually needs to know Gallifreyan things for the plot, I don’t think.

And of course, Thirteen, the deceptively cheery-looking young blonde one whose fashion sense really hasn’t improved, with Dan (putting together a tropical fruit platter upon request) and Yaz, who is not happy to see the Master again.
