Albert Lebourg, View of the Seine, 1902
Title: Summer evening at the South beach, Skagen. Anna Ancher and Marie Krøyer (study) Artist: Peder Severin Krøyer (Norwegian/Danish, 1851-1909) Date: 1893 Genre: landscape painting Movement: Impressionism School: Skagen Painters Medium: oil on canvas Dimensions: 38.5 cm (15.1 in) high x 60 cm (23.6 in) wide Location: Hirschsprung Collection, Copenhagen, Denmark
Peder Severin Krøyer painted this scene in June 1893 at Skagen, a fishing village in northern Denmark that became a favorite gathering place for the group dubbed the Skagen Painters. The two figures depicted in the distance are Anna Ancher and Krøyer's then-wife Marie, both of whom were themselves painters associated with the Skagen group.
