It was such a beautiful day today I had to ‘have a fly.’ New rates in a new spot seems to be a recipe for poop-sandwiches; on the 1st pack I hit a fence post and smashed my #runcammicroeagle While I was repairing that, the Fuzz showed up to escort some ‘questionables’ out, so of course had to wait them out. Then on the second pack, I got stuck, 50 feet up in a tree. Had to pack up and go find enough stuff to get it down. So now I’m putting together a tree-kit. Do you pack one, and what do you put in it? I think I’ll make two; a small one to carry with and a more robust one to stay in the truck. [Update] My University’s Robotics and Drone club met yesterday and everyone is super stoked about building their first Whoop! As it turned out we were not able to assemble yesterday, so today I brought in my soldering kit, and was able to teach my friend, Rich, how to correctly solder. After we talked through the whole process I shoed how to do everything, and then I had him clean some solder off of an old AIO FC, re-tin the pads and some wires and solder those wires to the ESC pads. He did a great job, and was super pumped, so I let him solder the battery leads to our Whoop FC! Its turning out to be a great project and everyone at the school is really excited about the whole project! A couple months ago, after asking to use the Engineering Dept’s 3D printer to make an fpv camera adapter, I was approached and asked to start a Robotics and Drone club. Today, we received enough parts to build our club’s first fpv sUAS. It’s going to be a Whoop! Tomorrow at our meeting I will have the privilege of walking my classmates through the process of assembling their first aircraft. Tonight I’m charging all the battery packs, so with any luck we’ll be airborn in the afternoon. We’re going to print a frame off of Thingiverse, and I’ll post the link (for the proper creds) and more pics tomorrow. I can’t wait, to be honest I’m pretty excited.

This motor just went dead and I couldn’t figure it out. After I broke it down you can see that the motor wires shorted and blew up. Had a great time getting these girls in the air for their maidens. Noticed some funkieness in flight when I drop the throtle. Got a bit too frisky though, and ended up exploding. Sheared most of the crap aluminum screws, bending and destroying most of the standoffs, lost the RDQ Mach3 video tx, but the frame came through unscathed, as the did the motorbells, cameras and electronics.
Thankfully, I had another full build, so I just kept on rippn.’ Replacement parts are already on order, and I’m looking forward to tearing both machines down for their final rebuild with conformal coating, CA glue on frame edges, and lock-tight on all the screws.
Note to self; need more batteries. Many more.
