This is a design that is very difficult to understand by looking at the pictures so I definitely suggest that, for this design in particular, you head over to my YouTube channel and watch the video there. Or watch the speedtorial!
Anyway these are super pretty, easy and versatile nails using Sharpies and rubbing alcohol.
1. after cleaning, filing, and shaping the nails and applying a base coat, apply one coat of opaque white polish and a quick dry top coat and let that dry completely (the white does not need to be perfect as it won’t be seen, it just serves as a base to really help the sharpie stand out on top of it).
2. pick your range of sharpie colors (just try to pick the darkest version of the color available because this has the most pigment and will therefore show up best on your nail)
3. scribble your sharpie onto a clear plastic sandwich bag and then use a cotton bud dipped in rubbing alcohol to pick up the pigment from the sharpie off the bag (I did this by just scribbling the wet cotton bud through where I had scribbled the color)
4. use the freshly moistened and pigmented cotton bun to dab pigment onto your nails
5. repeat steps 3 and 4 multiple times with different colors on each nail, overlapping them as you go so that they blend together. Depending on the opacity you desires, you may have to do 2-4 coats of color on each nail.
*don’t stress if sharpie pigment seeps down and seems to stain your cuticle - you can clean it up easily, stay tuned!
6. once you have given the nails a couple minutes to dry (so that the rubbing alcohol has evaporated off), apply two coats of quick dry top coat (the first one will sort of seal the color and the second will keep it nice and shiny).
7. once your quick dry topcoat has had a couple minutes to dry, use a cleanup brush and some rubbing alcohol to clean up around the cuticle to get away those sharpie stains (I tried several different methods to get rid of these stains and this was the quickest and easiest, especially since you will already have the rubbing alcohol out and ready)
