Mental Illness Recovery Series Stories
This series covers stories from people all over the world. There are stories from the U.S., South America, Europe, Germany, U.K and much more. Not only that, but each story portrays different cultural backgrounds and how they perceive mental illnesses. Each story covers the person’s background information, their mental disorders, diagnosis, the causes for their disorders, symptoms, how it affected their life, negative behaviors, the type of therapy received, coping techniques, changes within them, what they learned from their illnesses and advice. Some of the stories have names and pictures for you to see the true face behind the struggles and other stories are anonymous.
The following is a list of all the disorders this series covers. The list portrays a wide variety of mental illnesses. Unfortunately, the media only talks about depressive and anxiety disorders, and even though both of these illnesses are the most common we cannot ignore the rest of them.
Depression Disorders: Major Depression Disorder (MDD) / Recurrent Depressive Disorder / Bipolar Disorder / Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) / Mild, Moderate & Severe Depression.
Anxiety Disorders: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) / Social Phobias / Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) / Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) / Panic Disorder / Agoraphobia / Specific Phobias / Social Anxiety Disorder / Emetophobia (fear of vomiting)
Neurological Disorders: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) / Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) / Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Cognitive Disorders: Dyslexia / Learning Disabilities
Addiction: Polysubstance Abuse Disorder / Alcohol Addiction / Self-harming Addiction
Sleeping Disorders: Insomnia
Impulse Control Disorders: Trichotillomania (hair pulling)
Personality Disorders: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) / Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) / Schizotypal Disorder (STPD) / Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Psychiatric Disorders: Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) / Schizophrenia / Schizoaffective Disorder / Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) / Gender Identity Disorder (GID) / Dissociative disorders (DD) / Delusional Disorder
Eating Disorders: Anorexia Nervosa / Bulimia Nervosa / Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS)
This is the reason that I want to be a therapist and help stop the stigma around mental illness….this…this is necessary
