What is Arabophobia?

It is the fear of or prejudice and discrimination against Arab people. This can include things like depictions and stereotypes of Arabs as terrorists, Arab orientalism and romanticisation of our culture and much more.

It is extremely prevalent in our day-to-day lives. Not to be confused with islamophobia, which is the fear of or discrimination against Muslims—a religion, not an ethnicity.

Not all Arabs are Muslims, and not all Muslims are Arabs! This is a very important distinction to make as the top 10 most populous Muslim countries aren’t Arab (except for Egypt).

TL;DR, I am going on hiatus until June 10, 2026

Hey everyone.

Private life has been catching up with me, and where I am, the Wi-Fi is starting to get pretty bad. Soon it may be near unusable for a full week or more. Plus with how I have a lot of things to do.

So of course, I’m going on hiatus. You can still send in asks and such, but I won’t answer them until June 10 this year. Of course, it won’t be in a batch. The queue will just be normal as before, so 2 asks each day.

In my country, intersex people either become victims of infanticide or are forcibly mutilated as soon as their conditions are identified.

Any form of hormone replacement therapy or sex-change surgery is illegal unless the participant is intersex. Intersex genital mutilation is legal and even encouraged.

A (thankfully-unenforced law) is that any homosexual relations, even if consensual, are punished by death.

Crossdressing is illegal and extremely frowned down upon.

Then I see people on social medias calling transgender men “theyfabs” and “transandrobros” for daring to speak up.

Then I see entirely new binaries being made to justify oppression olympics (looking at you, TMA/TME)

Then I see some of the most rancid and pointless discourse, coming from people who live in nations where being out as transgender, as gay, as intersex or as any marginalised identity is encouraged.

From people who don’t have to suppress themselves to stay alive.

From people who don’t have to face some of the worst queerphobia each day and keep a smile throughout.

From people who have allies for family, for people who have so much support.

Yet I am here, all alone and forced to hide every single part of my identity so I don’t get murdered by my own siblings. My own family. My own tribe.

I hate the passive "all those countries where queer people are persecuted are shit and you should easily abandon them" attitude that westerners have as if their queer protections are like some inherently western trait. Hay bub this is my home, it's where I became a person, what made me a person. It's beautiful and sad and worth believing in and it's hurting and it deserves better. It's equally as part of me as being queer and shiting on it is unhelpful. If I have to leave it's a tragedy, I don't want a better place, I want this place to be better.

that "say wallahi bro say wallahi" song became the final straw for me. i'm not muslim nor arab in any way but i just find it distasteful that people think words like wallahi, inshallah, bismillah, etc are just cool phrases they can just freely sprinkle into their daily vocabulary without considering who they'll potentially offend or the actual history of them

Wallahi has practically lost all its nuance. It was basically a way of saying “I swear to god”, and you can’t jokingly say it because it’s haram. So people resorted to things like vallah or wawa to get a pass.

Inshallah is supposed to be “hopefully” (but everyone with Arab parents knows it’ll never happen), but they keep thinking it’s another way of wallahi.

They don’t even know the difference between Inshallah and Mashallah. If you’re going to steal our language (not even slang, it’s been there for a thousand years) at least do it fucking right!

I’m surprised the world hasn’t gone to shit, but if you give me a nuclear bomb I might as well make the West look like one.
