A life update about Banks, the Labrador Retriever.
Hello dogblr! It’s been almost two years since I’ve been on my dog blog. Admittedly, my absence was primarily caused by my anxiety over Banks’ hip dysplasia. It was a hard pill for me to swallow.
I am glad to say that Banks is happy and healthy. He has not undergone any surgeries- we’re managing his dysplasia, under the guidance of his Physical Therapist. Banks now attends rehab a few times a month, where he spends a day performing multiple exercises to help build the different muscles he has in that area. At home, I help maintain those muscles through “play” exercises recommended to me by the therapist!
He’s also been undergoing injections that are helping to mitigate some of the damage caused by his dysplasia.
We’re doing what we can to make sure that he’s living a fulfilling life. He still plays with other dogs sometimes, but under close supervision. I found that dog parks are too chaotic and unpredictable, so we don’t go there anymore. He’s made a new friend, though- a yellow lab that lives in our new neighborhood (I bought a condo!). The lab is named Shelby. He likes her a lot!
Banks currently shares residence with a tiny, mid-aged boy chihuahua named Bitty, owned by my roommate. Bitty and Banks tolerate each other so far (it’s only been a couple weeks!), and sometimes they will lay down with their butts touching.
I am going to try and re-integrate myself here (as I have missed the dogblr community) and I would love to catch up with old friends, as well as new ones!
Thanks all!
