Part of me really dreads pride month bc while I want to be excited and engage in community stuff, it really highlights how many people are exclusionists and there’s so many posts spread, even by people who intend to be inclusionist, which have subtle aphobic dogwhistles.

Please include ace and aro people in pride posts. And aro is NOT a subset of ace so it’s not enough to just include ace. I agree that lesbians should be included in pride posts bc I want everyone to be included, but if someone is vehement about the inclusion of the lesbian flag while excluding ace & aro flags then they’re a hypocrite at best or else an exclusionist/aphobe. Last year there were so many posts about this even while they were undecided on flags, whereas aces & aros have consistently had flags for the past 5+ years and are still systematically excluded.

I encourage people to actively include ace & aro people in pride posts. Furthermore, I encourage them to be critical of posts that talk about inclusion while excluding a-spec people bc there’s so many seemingly innocuous posts that are spread by aphobes. Please include ace AND aro people this pride month and don’t support content which excludes us.

things I love about phineas and ferb

main stream representation of a blended family that all loves each other very much with no drama over the fact that technically, they are step-siblings

Ferb is largely non-verbal and does a lot of his communication through non-verbal means and literally no one ever makes fun of him for that, like it’s acknowledged but not shamed

Perry also does a lot of non-verbal communication, but he is a platypus

the use of Doof’s tragic backstories to highlight the fact that they explain but not excuse his actions. they are told in a way that you feel bad for Kid Doof, but that doesn’t make it okay to try to mind control the entire tri-state area

the play on all of the repeative actions, there’s a formula to the show and by the later seasons, the characters have acknowledged that and a lot of the humor comes from that

almost all of the main characters (minus I think Phineas and Candace) have a cultural background that is acknowledged and explored, and even shared among the group.

the acknowledgement that Isabella is Jewish during the Christmas episodes, but also that she doesn’t celebrate Christmas and still wants to help her friends save something that is important to them

Buford and Baljeet seem to have some sort of understand and boundaries that only they understand which is like vaguely problematic, but obviously they care about each other

there is a crime fighting platypus

that even though it’s a kid’s show, it demonstrates a lot of common frustrations that kids have. Candace is always frustrated that her mother doesn’t believe her. Carl is upset with Major Monogram for never thanking him.

Candance and Jermey’s relationship ends up being a really awesome one, because he knows exactly what she’s like, and unlike some of the other people in her life (her mother, Stacy and Jenny), he doesn’t mind at all. in fact, he plans for her running off to bust her brothers. almost always. he’s just 100% okay with it and content to bring thier date along on her busting plans.

just the can do spirit that Phineas and Ferb have. almost nothing ever stops them. and like… they obviously put a lot of thought into how things work but like they just wanna have fun

actually, the friendship between Vanessa and Candace that we watch as they meet and it ends up growing until eventually they are actually friends who hang out even tough they are drastically different people from drastically different friend groups with so many different interests

that they have an episode entirely devoted to aglets. I fucking love aglets man.

the fact that Phineas and Ferb meet aliens and immediately make friends with them. because that’s just who they are

that Lawrence 100% knows that the boys do all this crazy shit every day and has absolutely no objects and literally never says anything despite the fact that he could easily tell his wife that Candace is right

alright kids let’s break this down one last fuckin time (and this is a breakdown of just aesthetics)-

goth: all black, often very elaborate, gothically inspired (obviously), not branded

emo: still lots of black but much more casual, skinny jeans, certain brand shirts (usually music-themed), converse/vans, jewelry, specific hairstyles, think 2000’s hot topic kids

punk: lots of black again, very elaborate but in a completely different way, studs, chains, patches, piercings, leather, another set of specific hairstyles and bright hair colors, really rooted in anarchical themes

grunge: old clothes, flannels, oversized, layers, ripped jeans, distressed **if you’re buying “grunge” clothes new, you’re a fucking sham, the entire grunge aesthetic arose from garage bands too poor to afford clothes that weren’t thrifted, poorly sized, and already worn out**

additionally, all of these include elements of gender non-conformity and prioritize self-expression as well as identification as belonging to a group

and remember!!! all of these are actual subcultures, not just aesthetics, so when you say you’re “being goth/etc” remember to specify that you mean aesthetically, because its not fair to boil an entire subgroup of people down to just their aesthetic trends

I think I might have a new horrible, terrible, fucking amazing story idea.

Okie dokie it took a very disturbing turn very quickly but here’s the idea;

Imagine the tiniest, most wimpy, pathetic, pitiful dragon you possibly can. She’s got blunt horns and blunt teeth, and her claws aren’t very sharp! She’s a little smaller than your average house cat! Her name is Altheria. Her hoard consists of;

One dirty gold coin

That’s it.

And she’s so little she can’t even hold the coin in one paw. It’s not a big coin, she’s just little and doesn’t have thumbs! 👍

So the other dragons are all bigger and greedy, and very mean to her. She’s struggling to hold onto her one pathetic coin, and these other dragons are fucking HUGE with caves full of gold, yet they’re super greedy and want all the gold they can get! So one of them sees Altheria’s single little coin and steals it. She tries to fight back, but they’re so big compared to her that they just bat her out of the sky like hitting a fly with fly swatter.

So she’s lost her entire hoard in one night, and she’s feeling pretty pathetic, when she sees a poster!

HELP WANTED - RESCUE PRINCESS ELIZABETH - REWARD 15,000 GOLD

and she gets a very bad idea, but she’s pretty desperate and stupid so she does it anyway!

So the story follows Altheria as she blunders her way through this quest to save the kidnapped princess (so tragically taken days before her wedding!!!) And she kinda sucks at it. She mostly skates by because everyone looks at her and goes “She’s so small!!! She’s harmless!!!”

And there’s this thing called The Gift that people are born with. Only people with The Gift can understand dragons, so no one knows what the fuck she’s saying anyway. Everyone just ignores her!

Well Altheria makes it to the bandit infested fortress where the princess is only to discover….

Drum roll please!!!!

The princess wasn’t kidnapped. She ran the fuck away because she was not vibing with that whole marriage thing. She’s taken over this small army of bandits and become their leader. She’s plotting to take over her father’s kingdom and become queen instead of being sold off to some prince. She’s building an army.

Elizabeth has offered every would-be rescuer to show up a choice; join her cause, or die. Out of 37 would be rescuers, only three have joined her. The other 34 she defeated and killed in single combat. Because she’s a badass.

She then ransomed the bodies to their families for a shit load of money.

So Eliza has The Gift, and gives Altheria the same choice but with some added sugar; if Altheria joins up, she can be Eliza’s treasurer.

Altheria takes one look at the 35,000 gold Eliza has built up, and Eliza promises they’ll get even more gold if they can take over the kingdom… And Altheria is 100% on board!!!!

But the reason dragons need gold is simple; the more gold a dragon possess, the larger they grow. That’s why Altheria was so small. She only had one coin! But now she has 35,000 that she (kinda, she shares with Eliza) owns.

Altheria starts growing again. Throughout their quest to take back the kingdom in Eliza’s name, she gets bigger, her teeth and horns get sharper, her fire gets hotter… She becomes a fucking badass, just like Eliza.

That’s as far as I’ve gotten so far.

This story is badass. hehe~ Imagine Eliza and Altheria going around defeating the other dragons that bullied Altheria before (in the sense of robbing; unless dragons do “fair and square” matches to get the Gold) and Altheria just becomes this extra huge, extra strong, extra badass dragon and the rest are now the tiny fly treatment dragons. XD hahaha

I have exactly one (1) lifehack for every adult thing and that is “admit your ignorance to customer service people”

no, seriously! I know how nothing in adult life works, but I have learned it by calling up the customer service division of whatever agency I am having a problem with and then just asking about whatever the problem is, emphasizing my complete lack of knowledge about the thing.

my actual literal script for these interactions: “Hi, my name is [name]. This is my problem: [problem]. I don’t know how [adult thing] works. could you explain how [adult thing] works?” it fucking works every time.

me: I keep getting conflicting information as to whether my therapist is covered by my health insurance. I don’t know anything about health insurance, so this is very confusing to me. could you explain why this might be happening? health insurance customer service: it’s because your normal health insurance is X company but your mental healthcare is subcontracted out to Y company, and Y covers your therapist but X doesn’t. just always bill Y when you go to your therapist and you’ll be fine.

me: I accidentally put the wrong date to pay my credit card off and I’m afraid it will post before I get paid. this is my first credit card so I don’t know what I’m doing. could you tell me when it will post? customer service person: it will send a message to your bank today, but your bank won’t respond to it until tomorrow when you get paid, so you’re fine. and even if it does bounce, the fee is only $25 and you qualify for a waiver.

me: I went to an urgent care place that said they’d take my health insurance, but now i have a big bill. I don’t know how billing works: can you explain why the amount is so much for such a routine trip? customer service person: it’s because you were out of network at the time. however, since your insurance hasn’t covered the cost of care, the urgent care people should refund you for the cost of the services you paid for. me: [gets actual check in mail for the $200 I spent on testing my pee]

I would not recommend this method for retail (for the love of god, do not tell a sleazy car dealer that you don’t know how cars work), and sure, sometimes you have to speak to the manager or threaten a credit card chargeback or whatever you need to do. but 99% of the time, speaking nicely and admitting to needing help has worked wonders for me, and means I don’t have to stew in terror over doing some adult thing Wrong.

communal child raising is the traditional family. 70-100 years ago 4 generations lived together in the same house, having 4 grandparents, 6 aunts and 15 cousins around every day was normal.

Things that should be mentioned:

- These communities are not necessarily connected by an biological ties. In a lot of these multigenerational ‘families’, including people in the family who are not relatives or married into the family is totally normal. This has always created a lot more space to support people without families, support people who do now want to partner up and to create communities in which couples who can not have children (like some queer couples but not all & other couples too) can be a part of child raising.

- Having a lot more young people around often means young people learn from each other. In many cultures young people form a non-hierarchial group that learns together and can do a great deal without adult supervision.

The nuclear family doesn’t just facilitate abuse, it facilitates hierarchy. It’s a training school for obedience to authority.

Now, which system would push such a training school strongly so it could get docile obedient citizens? Which system whould push the nuclear family.

I’m not saying it’s capitalism but it’s capitalism.

And then there’s the fact that the 2 parent, nuclear family can be most easily pushed into the pattern where one adult works an extremely exhausting job many hours a day that leaves that adult hardly capable of doing anything else, while the other adult takes on all the other things that adult would otherwise have done: care for children, clean the living space, prepare food, prepare clean clothing, etc. for free. What we know as traditional gender roles.

This way capitalism gets one intensely loyal worker who feels ‘responsible’ for ‘supporting a family’ while all the work to keep that worker going is done for free by an unpaid worker in the home.

And, you know, communities need a lot less stuff. A community of 50 can do just fine with one or two hammers. 25 nuclear families need 25 hammers. The nuclear family demands a huge amount of commodity purchasing.
