"I can't risk killing anyone, Damon"

Here’s a great look into Elena’s psyche at the moment.  It’s not just that she’s trying to please Stefan by refusing to try human blood from the vein. She is not just afraid to kill someone.  To the very end it was her last resort, the last thing she was willing to try and she only did it because of the circumstances.  

So maybe, just maybe, she is just terrified that if she tries it, even once, she won’t be able to control herself.   Her biggest fear is not just killing someone, her biggest fear is that she could become just like Stefan, a ripper, uncontrollable and blood thirst murderous.  She’s feeling the potential with all the ‘heightened’ feelings everyone kept repeating the whole episode long and drilling into her head.  

And the only one she is confortable sharing her feelings with is Damon, not only because he understands it, but because he will be there wether she turns into a ripper or not.  And bless Damon, he does go along with her and let her try everything, always letting her know that his option is still the best option.  Because he’s absolutely confident that Elena will never be anything like ripper Stefan: “Well God forbid she’s anything like me!”

And that’s Elena’s psyche at the moment, and Damon’s for that matter
