My views on God when I was 18
God: “I know there are things that could be better, but what's done is done. And I'm not all-powerful."
On the news you often hear about the misery in the world and how few people actually do something about it. Most people shout how horrible they think it is, but they don't do much about it. Many people who believe often wonder why God does not intervene. So many of them begin to question whether he exists or not.
Another question that often comes up is: why does God not intervene? I think it's because God gives us freedom to make our own choices in life.
The human had it good when they lived in paradise. They were allowed to eat all the fruits that grew there. Except from the tree of good and evil. But eventually they did eat it and they were sent to earth.
I think that from the moment that man eats from the tree of good and evil, he becomes acquainted with its concepts. But what do you do with these concepts? You can devote your life to it and learn the answers for the next generation. Or you lead your life and see what comes next.
Man is on earth because he has become independent. When children have grown up, they live alone and get their own responsibilities, they have to clean their house themselves, pay their own bills and if something goes wrong they can only blame themselves and solve it themselves.
Of course, if they really don't know anymore, they can ask their parents for help and advice. But most of them really do it themselves. The relationship between God and man is a bit the same in my eyes.
Most people assume that God, as we are made in his image, is just as lazy, self-centred and selfish as we are. That humans, at their center, are only interested in their own. But who were those heroes from the past then? Fantasies of people in need; and all those other people who support good goals?
Of course things could be better, but it is simply not true that all people are violent, selfish or lazy. So why could the same not be said about God? This reason is therefore not entirely valid in my eyes.
I think it's because God, like everyone else, is bound by logic. That God has not more powers than humans, but infinitely more wisdom. It often seems that he can do more than a human because it this, but that is not the case by definition.
For example. Children always look up to their big sister or parents because they do things that the kids consider impossible. But when these children have reached that age and know as much as their sister and parents then, they can do those things themselves now and the magic is lost.
In conclusion, His ways cannot really be fathomed by us humans because we do not have the same amount of wisdom.
So I think that God does not do anything about the way humans treat each other, is because he trust us to make use of our knowledge about good and evil. The problems that we now have are solvable. For some it will be a high threshold that they have to cross, but there will be plenty of people, including yourself, who can make it happen. And I think these people are actually the help we get from God and we should do it with that.
