It just occurred to me that I posted up my awesome flat fold tutorials about a year ago and with the flats challenge coming up some people may want a refresher or to learn some new ones :)
Hey guys, remember last year when I posted up a bunch of diaper folding how-tos? Why not put them to use in the 5th annual Flats Challenge!
It’s an awesome way to bring some recognition to an rather underrated diapering option that also happens to be the most economical option available and usually a true birth to toddler diapering option.
I've been neglecting this blog like crazy, but the 5th annual flats challenge is coming up soon and I'm hoping to jump back into my diaper blogging soon!
Click through the link and check it out. I'll be reblogging my flats tutorials from last year so those who've seen them before can get a refresher and the newbies can look over all that flats have to offer!
Best Bottoms Diapers have all of my money. Any extra from a check? It goes to them. If they'd stop putting out such cute prints....
Send a quick thought out to my first load of pretties who have been taken down by the ammonia I'm 2 for 3 on successful non color ruining bleach soaks
I want to start cloth diapering but as I look through websites I feel so overwhelmed by the options. Also I only have about a $200 budget. If any mama’s have advice on types of diapers you prefer or websites that offer good deals… Please hit me up.
Look into flats! We use a combination of actual flats and a loooooooot of receiving blankets. Also, we like Nickis diapers for covers :) under $10 each and often on sale. We have a truly embarrassing amount of receiving blankets I've gathered from thrift stores and rummage sales for under $1 each.
We love the deals on nickis. 5OFF gets you 5% off. They have free shipping on all covers and good free gifts on orders $39 and up. They also sell imagine brand diapers which are awesome too and a few dollars cheaper than nickis, but we love the print and color option of nickis. We also have some flats from both companies which are very competitively priced.
So if you estimate 30 receiving blankets at or around $1 each (even cheaper if people give them to you or you already have some!) and 8-10 covers at $8-$10 each you're looking at $94-$130 as the initial start up cost, which honestly that's probably a bit of an overestimation on my end. And you don't even have to get it all at once. We built up over a few months and looked at any cloth diaper we used as "saving" the minimum of 25¢ per disposable we would have used.
In my opinion flats are the cheapest and easiest to use and wash, followed closely by prefolds. You don't have to do any fancy folds if you don't want to, I just really enjoy them. You can just fold them down to the diaper size you need in a rectangle, throw it in, and go!
Guys! Nicki’s Diapers is releasing a new print Monday!
Sven
They didn’t expect this shipment for a good while (obviously), but will be releasing it sometime Monday and selling it through March 31st. Listing is up on their website, and as it is a limited edition print, the cost will be a bit higher than the usual Nicki’s diapers, but shouldn’t be outrageous.
I’m planning on getting whatever the household limit is in covers, because c’mon, this one is adorable.
(they also mentioned in the chatter fan page that there was only one ahead of schedule in THIS shipment, so we could possibly see some Sven companions in the future)
How can I convince a daycare that cloth diapers will be easy for them to use on my child? All the daycares in my area will only allow disposables...how can I make it as easy and appealing for them as possible?
All in ones with velcro. They go on and come off as easily as disposables. Maybe even throw in some liners to make poop cleanup easier.
Also, I would look around and see what the law is where you live. Some states have laws explicitly allowing/prohibiting the use of cloth diapers in a day care environment.
From what I've read sometimes they aren't allowed to take care of poop disposal due to a health or contamination risk (idk about what they do with disposables since you're supposed to dump the poop too...), but explicitly stating they don't have to "deal" with the poop can help. Also providing either a sealing diaper pail or a large wetbag to take home each night can help out. Last resort, if there's no law against it in your state or if there's one stating a doctor note is needed, see if your pediatrician will write you a note.
I don't see why some daycares won't take cloth. It's less work than a disposable when all they have to do is chuck it in a pail/bag right next to the changing station and makes less garbage for them at the end of the week.
Maybe offer to do an AIO Velcro demonstration for them? That's about as close to disposable as you can go in my opinion.
Autobots, roll out!
On today’s episode of the USPS can suck it:
They deemed this tiny 7oz diaper to not have a secure location to be left at our home yesterday. Notice was supposedly left. We were home during the time they would have dropped it off. And home when our actual mail was dropped off. No notice was left and there were no knocks or doorbell rings. This tiny, 7oz, uninsured package that fits fine in my mailbox on my semi-enclosed porch where nothing can be viewed from the street, is not a secure location to leave this package. Yet, they can leave 2 wraps with $150 in insurance up under the box with no issue whatsoever? Nah, imma call bullshit on this one.
Also it took 7 days for tracking to update from California to Iowa :D
Complaints have been filed. Because the carrier is a damn liar and I suspect was either a different one than usual, or super freaking lazy.
But, it’s here, and it’s everything I never knew I wanted.
They did the same thing to me last week with a womb sounds bear I bought. All because he didn’t want to get out of the vehicle and bring it to the door. And he definitely left no notice at all!! It was so dumb!!!
They arent allowed to knock or ring your doorbell unless you go in and talk to your postmaster and have that in your instructions for packages. Also their tracking systems have been very sporradic these last few weeks, trust me they want it fixed too. Most of the time your carrier arrives within the same 20 minutes of the day, and they are honestly trying to be helpful, usually. At my moms the guy usually puts stuff on the porch because he knows shes home. Its a really tough job, and I know you are upset here but the vast majority of the time they just want to deliver the mail and go home like the rest of us. Honestly sometimes, in the bins upon bins, things get misorganized. They mightve missplaced this in their truck, been done 5 hours later and saw it. They cant come back with undelivered mail without a cause so that is a factor too. I know im probably annoying here, but if youve never watched someone work this job you really wouldnt know all of this otherwise. Super cute diaper though ;)
Thing is, they've rung the doorbell before and straight up left packages worth a loooot more than this. It's really annoying because they didn't come up on the porch at the time it says they attempted delivery and no notice was left anywhere on or around my porch (I looked for it in case it had blown away). Plus, this fits in the freaking mailbox, where it was put the day after.
I assume it was a different carrier than usual because our normal one doesn't say a package that fits in the box has no safe space to be left lol

There’s a local Craigslist post selling a fuckton of wool items (diapering) for $50. Of couuuurse its NB-medium :(
Oh well. But seriously there’s 12 handmade wool things PLUS 6 other covers a snappi and 11 cloth wipes.
And this is why Grant and I should have another child. So I could take advantage of this deal. Because dude.

Right now there's at least a dozen different PIFs going on to honor the memory of a members son who passed last year. Oh, and the diapers are pretty freaking amazing, too. I'll be posting up a headband giveaway on my main in a few to jump on the RAOK train.

Fleece soaker shoutout! Of the 12 I bought, only 8 are the size the seller said they were. Next time I'll be sure to ask for measurements. Also, pirate booty!
