Guardians Of The Star Wars Galaxy by Cakes-and-Comics
“Tell him about the dance-off to save the Universe.”
Guardians of the Galaxy 2013 #16
lxstzenwhoberi:
Gamora visibly twitched, grip tightening on the glass enough that the ornamentation on it left imprints on her fingers. How dare he. Sure, she knew these rumors; they’d persist for as long as she was alive, she was sure. But she had expected anyone with half a brain cell could dismiss those as untrue without her help.
“Of course not. What good would it do me? Do you think Thanos treats his subordinates well? What reason would I have to go back to a man who did such horrible things? I’m not that self-destructive.”
Gamora took a long sip of her drink, visibly scowling– oh, she’d get him back for this. “You should know this, as a father yourself– children treated like that? We will never be loyal.”
J’son couldn’t help but smile at her reaction. That hit a nerve. He wanted to follow up with a myriad of questions regarding the time she was loyal to the mad titan. If she loathed him so much why did she stay as long as she did?
But he thought better of it. Best to poke the beast and then step back and wait for another opportunity instead of charging in full speed.
He tapped his fingers on the table in front of him as he listened to her counter jab. His face was a mask. A guarded smile hiding all emotions-- whether they were anger or sadness or apathy.
“You think I treat Peter the way Thanos treated you?” he asked.
custospericulo:
If he were to challenge her in her current condition; he’d find her just as FIERY, and perhaps even more FIERCE. Not that she’d been given much of a chance to test her skills since upon finding out about their little INVADER; she’d been restricted in a lot of her typically day-to-day activities. But, she knew she’d still turn up VICTORIOUS should the need to fight arise.
Gamora kept walking, her eyes moving back to watch before her. The last thing she needed was to lose her BALANCE and have to deal with more concerned expressions from her family.
She turns her head at his incredulation and arches a brow. She doesn’t like the TONE he takes; as if every man would react as he did to a pregnancy. “Of course he is.” If he didn’t, she was fairly sure he’d be FLOATING in space somewhere–but Gamora didn’t have to worry about that with Peter. Her expression is defensive; stopping her walk to stare at him.
“He’s not like you–he WANTS this just as much as I do. Perhaps MORE than I do. Peter is a good man; he’ll be a GOOD father too.”
Gamora was correct about her first assumption. Peter really wasn’t like him. He was more like his mother in almost every aspect of his personality. From the obsessed with Terran music to the fierce loyalty to family and friends. Almost everything about Peter was from Meredith. With the exception of that temper. Meredith would get angry but she wouldn’t stomp around like a child. That was more like J’son. He’d be the first to admit that Peter got his childish anger from himself.
But the assumption that Peter wasn’t like him due to this idea that he ‘ran away’ from Meredith... It wouldn’t be the first time that someone wrongly believed that and I wouldn’t be the last. He inwardly sighed. He didn’t have to explain his motivation for leaving the woman he loved behind all those years ago. He had his reasons and they were his.
Still, he bristled at the accusation but said nothing on the matter.
“So this was planned?” he asked carefully. If this was indeed something they both wanted they must’ve discussed it. “You two sat down and talked about starting a family?”
custospericulo:
Gamora never liked J’son. He irritated her more than she could admit–almost as much as AYESHA. Almost but not quite. Being visibly pregnant meant that everyone treated her as though she were made of GLASS; which–she had never been. Even now. Suffice it to say, being RESTRICTED in what she did was tensing her up.
Not to mention the near animalistic PROTECTIVENESS that accompanied her people when it came to their children. Still. She had to try and be CIVIL.
She lets out a low sigh and clenches her free fist by her side. “I feel so BLESSED.” She replies dryly. Granted, the bigger picture was in sight and she could understand that of course the discomfort would be REWARDED in the end. But that didn’t mean she would take it silently.
Yes–every single Guardian had incurred her wrath; so maybe her momentary solitude was a MUTUAL decision.
Gamora continues walking, though moving to give the man room beside her. She’s quiet for a moment before she tilts her head in consideration, cutting her gaze to his face. “A GIRL. We’re having a girl.” She admits, almost reluctantly.
J’son felt the smallest hint of a mu s e m e n t at her dry sarcasm. It was preferable over her open threats and general angry demeanor.
He tucked his hands into his pockets and watched her as she created some space for herself. J’son quickly sized her up. He idly wondered if she was less dangerous or more so in her current state.
He didn’t want to find out.
“We? So is he taking responsibility?” J’son assumed it was Peter’s offspring but he wasn’t so convinced of his son’s ability to step up. He remembered his own reaction to such a situation..
lxstzenwhoberi:
Gamora’s face quirked upwards at the mention of a “game”, giving the impression of a raised eyebrow despite the woman’s lack of brows. A game, really? Wasn’t that showing his hand a bit too much?
Of course, it would make a good pretext for a semi-interrogation. They were both perfectly capable of lying, of course, but they were also capable of doing that in regular conversation. She’d just have to watch carefully to determine the true answers to her questions.
“Seems fair to me. Ask away.” Hopefully he would get straight to the point; as good as she was at this little tango, she’d much rather skip the formalities.
The corner of J’son’s mouth pulled slightly upwards in the ghost of a smile. He pulled the goblet to his lips to hide his satisfaction. He then set it down on the table in front of them with an audible ‘clank’. He took his time evaluating her and gently stroking his beard.
“There are whispers that you’re still loyal to Thanos.”
“That guy was a Jackass! ”

“Depends on what you heard.” Gamora crossed her legs, sipping at the offered drink. “Most of it’s public knowledge by now. Raised by Thanos, betrayed him, saved the universe.” No need to get into the gritty details. Oversharing wasn’t much her style, especially when she was (intending to be) doing the interrogating.
“And you? Being the Emperor of Spartax, I’m sure there are plenty of rumors you’d rather dispel.” She didn’t offer any, just as J’Son had not explained any of the things he’d heard about her. Better to just let him explain; oftentimes, what one chose to speak about from such an open-ended question was as telling as the information itself.
J’son laced his fingers together under his goblet and smiled. Oh, he liked this little back and forth.
“Perhaps we can dispel each other’s rumors with a friendly game of ‘truth or false’. I’ll say some interesting fact about the famed Gamora and you tell me whether or not it is true or false. And then it’ll be your turn,” he smiled even wider before settling back in his seat and bringing the drink to his lips.
He drank deep before saying, “Do we have a deal?”

J’son regarded the woman from where he hovered in the shadows. She was tense but then again, she always appeared to be tense.
For a brief, frivolous moment he wondered why she could be so very on-edge when she was in one of the most opulent and secure Empires in the galaxy. Perhaps she needed something specific and was too proud to ask? He stroked his chin and considered calling an attendant to see to her specific needs.
But before he could follow that line of logic, a part of him that used to be an adventurer and wanderer kicked in and reminded him that she may be on edge because she was here and not out there among the stars...
He asked a simple question to announce his presence and was met with a somewhat surprising response: Annoyance.
He met her expression with the slightest of frowns to show his own irritability. J’son was merely reaching out in a civilized fashion. He didn’t understand all the defensiveness towards him...
“You must be so excited for the little one,” he chose to ignore her hostility.

J’son crossed his arms and considered the times he s u p p o s e d l y threatened Peter and wondered if he should crank it up a notch. He didn’t necessarily want to harm the boy but perhaps he needed something more to motivate him.
He was pulled out of his introspection at the sound of the Titan’s laugh.
Oh, he was jesting... ...Or was he?
“Two,” he answered Thanos’ question. “One boy who refuses to take any responsibility for his birthright.”
It was really just Peter who he was struggling to maintain. Victoria was strong-willed but she was loyal to him...for now.

“A SEVERE misreading.” Gamora hissed, arching her brows. A hand reaches down to her blade resting on her belt; they would still get PAID if they returned him MINUS one hand.
For reasons unbeknownst to her, she always got like this around the same time of the YEAR. She’d become reflective, hesitant–memories of her mother and father potent and HEAVY. As a child being raised and TORTURED by Thanos, she’d never been able to be open about her need to be held. And even being with the GUARDIANS for as long as she has been; there was only one person (okay, maybe two if one included GROOT) who she could share this with.
“I just SEEMED, what?” She presses. Gamora’s eyes are narrowed into furious slits, watching the Spartaxian through a threatening gaze. Her stance was defensive, almost daring him to insult her further.
J’son’s eyes followed her hand as it gracefully landed on her weapon. For an absurd moment, he admired the way she moved with poise and purpose. If he didn’t know any better he would assume that she had some dance training in her background. It was just a reminder that she was thoroughly and finely tuned to be the perfect killer-- even her subtle movements were expertly executed.
So caught up in his own thoughts he almost didn’t catch her question. J’son held back a smile as he formed a response.
“You seemed to be--”
Needy or lonely was not the correct response in this situation.
“...preoccupied.”
