There's something about a song that came out before you were born. As a proud Madonna fan, I'm a bit ashamed to say that I've never been into her old school tracks. That is why it's especially gratifying to have discovered an older song that has resonated with me, hailing all the way back to her self-titled debut album. This dance-pop number centers on a girl that is quite literally going borderline over romantic rejections. Haven't we all gone a little cuckoo over a lover or two?

Song: Intruders

Artist: The Antlers

Album: Familiars (2014)

This song is my current favorite out of a sublime album from The Antlers. It's reminiscent of an older song from them called Drift Dive, with slow steady drum beats, his voice high and ephemeral, piercing through the depth of a wide ocean. I feel like a piece of phytoplankton swimming, drifting, soaring with the waves of the melody. Time slows down with this song and the feeling you get warms you and haunts you.

Song: Year of the Glad 

Artist: Marnie Stern

Album: The Chronicles of Marnia

I’ve been hearing the name Marnie Stern a lot recently, but never gave her a listen. That happens with a lot with bands whose names that don’t particularly strike out at me. In this case, Marnie reminds me of a fun quirky girl (yay) but Stern conjures up horrid images of NYU’s School of Business (nay). This morning, I decided to give in and see what the buzz is about. This was the first song that appeared on her Spotify page. Immediately, I liked the noisy guitar riffs, and then her voice dropped in like a cherry sugar bomb, if that’s a thing. Sweet and slightly off, it’s an interesting voice and along the lines of Grimes, if she was a rocker chick. There's a part of the chorus that rings like the "Eee! Eee! Eee! Eee!" a la the film Psycho. I like this new find.

Song: I Wanna Be Yours

Artist: Arctic Monkeys

Album: AM 

This is the first song of my new music blog. I heard it when I was in my friend's car, off to a weekend get-a-way in Fire Island. A storm was already gathering outside the window, and my mind was brewing some wrenching thoughts. Like everything at the moment, this song was dark and stormy, with a side of an obsessive romantic. It matched my mood. The voice pines to be someone's lover, like an accessory that screams to be used by its owner. I just wanna be yours.
