So Remus and Virgil theories!

Romulus and Remus is a ROMAN myth about two twin brothers who were raised by wolves after their father wanted them dead for fear of them usurping his throne (he left them in a basket on the Tiber). Remus was captured by guards and taken to the king, who found out who he was. Romulus went to rescue his brother and kill the king, and then they split the crown (like splitting Thomas’s imagination). However, Remus got jealous of the palace wall Romulus was building and jumped over it just to show he could (much like intruding into Thomas’s thoughts). Romulus proceeded to kill Remus, much as the sides continued to deal with the Duke in the very same episode he was exposed (or at least come to terms with him). Thomas again with the clever names! In addition, I want to point out that Virgil was (as most fanders know) a Roman poet. The poet likely knew the legend of Romulus and Remus, much as Virgil already knew the Duke existed.

Another thing!!! The sides have stopped themselves from saying “paranoid” TWICE now (“parano—vigilant! Paranovigilant everyone!” And in the new video.) My conclusion is that Virgil IS PARANOIA. Why else would it take him so long to trust the others enough to tell them his name? When his voice got all deep and demonic in “Moving On” when he told Thomas to “get rid of the phone. Get rid of the phone right now.” It was obvious afterwards he was apologetic and frustrated at himself for letting his darker side slip out (“I meant just like… place it down somewhere…”). Also notice how Virgil immediately sank out after telling Thomas he was a dark side (Sidenote: YES IT’S CANON WE GUESSED RIGHT GUYS!). Don’t you think that’s rather paranoid? He didnt give Thomas a chance to respond, just a smirk that said “Yes, you have permission to hate me now”. That also explains why he doesn’t like Patton saying things like “My poor little anxious baby”, he doesn’t like the patronization and ignorance of what he once was. That’s ALSO why in the “Phases” video, he seemed SUPER offended when the ither sides and Thomas said he should ignore the past. Because he knows if he represses his paranoia, who he once was, it might become another side they have to deal with. This makes him more paranoid, and it’s why he’s terrified of letting go of his anxious self, not being scary anymore. He’s just trying to protect them, and he feels like he can’t fully protect them while accepting who he is as a person. Poor Virgil…

Okay so you may be asking: why is this important?

Well throughout the series, we’ve seen Virgil, like all of the other “dark sides”, pop in and out of the frame for their entrances and exits. This way of moving, much like the presence of eye makeup, seems to be a unifying factor between them.

But in this moment, I think Virgil effectively moves on from being a dark side and accepts that he’s a part of the rest of the group. Notice in this episode that Logan almost dismisses his opinion, almost calling him “paranoid”, a method of denial that seems to work on the other dark sides, but corrects himself and explains to Virgil exactly why he needs to calm down.

And look at Virgil afterward: Not only does he say “Because I was (one of them)”, he also, like we know Logan, Patton, and Roman do, sinks down.

You’ve got Deceit and Duke Remus, both over dramatic caricatures of villains with outfits big enough to match their personalities. And then there’s Virgil, wearing a black hoodie and smudged eyeliner, chilling in the background. The juxtaposition is astounding.

So, I was re-watching ‘Fitting in’ and

we have three, Roman’s sure he’s gryffindor, Logan’s comfy with ravenclaw and Patton’s a Hufflepuff. Virgil is unsure and we have one slot left. I believe we’ve got our slytherin.

I MEAN HIS FACE IS HALF COVERED IN SCALES AND ROMAN CALLED HIM SNAKE FACE. He’s clever, cunning you might say; he’s ambitious, he will do what it takes to get his will and he’s a strong leader, he gets everyone to do what he wants (until he’s caught, that is).
