Not a translation request but do you have any recs for bands like Thornapple 😭 that’s not silica gel or se so neon.
I’ve been on a search for bands that have similar lyricism and psychedelic feel but I genuinely feel like Thornapple is the only one. 😢
hi! what a good question!
bands/artists with a similar sound to thornapple is something i've been on a search for since i started listening to them like 10 years ago. and yeah, it's a one of a kind sound, isn't it hah wouldn't say silica gel or se so neon are in any way similar though lol
can't say i've been lucky finding anything that comes even close but i think you could enjoy:
parannoul. shoegaze-y noise rock, not as symbolic and meaningful lyrics but they're vague enough so you can pretend they're About Something. instead of standing alone as a literary piece, lyrics more-so merge with the sound, still do their job at conveying that emotional rawness though. first listen rec: album To See the Next Part of the Dream.
achime. more math-y alt rock than psychedelic, pretty poetic lyrics that convey some artistic meaning, don't go as deep though. completely different type of vocal tone but just as sunghyun's voice it tugs at your heart. first listen rec: album Hunch.
3rd line butterfly. such a satisfying chill psychedelic sound that's pretty complex and artsy. lyrics, would say, more on the surface level but i do enjoy how they're performed. first listen rec: album Dreamtalk, maybe particularly song You Suddenly, I Again.
mot or eaeon (same person, mot used to be a band, eaeon is his personal music project). glitchy electronic for eaeon, for mot complex alt sound but for both lyrics finally reach a similar level to thornapple's, very poetic, many beautiful metaphors and allegories. first listen rec: from mot you can try songs Strange Season (haha couldn't resist), No Love, Love Song, Wings; from eaeon songs Bulletproof and Sad Mannequin.
electron sheep. maybe not as psychedelic but has very soft romanesque-ish indie sound that scratches a particular itch. lyrics not always deep or introspective but there are some gems. first listen recs: songs Aspirin Boy, deonjeon2, Sleep powder rain by Jellyfish.
sister's barbershop! just an icon from korea's indie scene. solid lyrics, solid sound, can do sadness and introspection pretty well. go straight into album Most Ordinary Existence.
cotoba. soft, flowing and dreamy psychedelic math rock. lyrics maybe not as impressive but they wield their guitars so well. first listen rec: just put them on shuffle, everything's gonna be good.
