Mindfulness is "the intentional, accepting and non-judgemental focus of one's attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations occurring in the present moment", which can be trained by meditational practices derived from Buddhist anapanasati. - Jeff Wilson
"You should be more mindful of others" - Somebody on TV or maybe your Mother
Arianna Huffington states that mindfulness is an important addition to the box of tools an elite performer can utilise. Michael Jordan himself, spoke of the practices that legendary coach Phil Jackson employed, which he declares as the key to their continued successes in the NBA. In fact, Phil Jackson, has been using his employment of the principles of mindfulness to take each team he has been a part of to the next level. As some are aware, after he left Michael Jordan's Chicago Bull's with 6 Championship rings in tow, he soon ended up at the LA Lakers, where he won another 5 rings with Kobe Bryant. Besides his luck in frequently matching up with two of arguably the best players to ever play basketball, this consistency tells tales.
Maybe because mindfulness takes a person to the same point before, after, and during success. It may work as a reasonable point zero, which helps the individual become fully aware.
Mindfulness is really about the depth of attention you give to things which, naturally, you would avoid. Namely, your emotions, as they may stem from places you would rather not expose, to yourself nor anybody else for that matter.
Understanding and separating the emotion, from the cause and effect of emotions, is a part of mindfulness which allows people to separate themselves from irrationality. It is the engine which brings to mind a knowledge and understanding of other people and events, by being mindful of such causes which would have brought about this result.
