I didn't entirely expect to be accused of witchcraft, but ultimately it doesn't surprise me. Hopefully, Oakhurst has something for me.
Morgan I. T.
Morgan sits along the riverbank, washing a cloth in the river. His sleeves are pulled up, revealing fresh looking burns. A sound causes the herbalist to look up, and they stare deep into the forest, trying to find what (or who) made the sound.
“Hello..? Is anyone there?”
(@thornewoodherbalist)
A figure stood in the trees, looking at the herbalist.
“Hm….perhaps. Look up.”
Owen didn’t know why his interest had been piqued by this individual, but whatever the case, he’d been following her for a bit. Waiting for them to notice him.
Morgan pauses, before glancing up at the tree. They stare at Owen for a moment in silence.
“Owen, was it?” They seem…surprisingly calm.
“That would be me.”
He sat down on the branch, humming to himself.
“You don’t seem particularly concerned by my sudden appearance in your vicinity. Are you used to this sort of thing?”
"Used to vampires appearing in trees? Or someone coming across me while I'm doing washing?" Morgan stands, making eye contact with the man. He folds the cloth over his arms, standing still. Morgan makes no move to hide their burns.
"Are you planning on coming down from up there?"
“Either. Whatever the case, you seem oddly at ease with my presence.”
At the last question, he shrugged, a smile playing across his lips.
“Would you like me to?”
Morgan eyes him silently, humming thoughtfully. "I don't see why I wouldn't be at ease."
She smiles, gesturing for Owen to come down. "Why don't we speak face to face?"
“As you wish.”
Following his statement, he pushed off the branch, landing nimbly on the ground with barely a sound.
He tilted his head in curiosity.
“Well, I believe most people would be uneasy with a vampire randomly appearing in a tree above them.”
Morgan smiles politely. "Is that so?" They quickly gather up their washing materials. "I don't think there'd be much of a difference between a human or a vampire appearing in a tree."
A pause. "Why is it, you don't like us moving into Oakhurst, Owen?"

Morgan hummed quietly, sketching a particularly peculiar mushroom in their journal. A basket rested abandoned by their side, already filled to the brim with herbs. chamomile, lavender, and valerian root joined by ginger, garlic, and basil.
They were alone, and with their back facing towards the open wilderness, anything could've jumped out at him.
Onyx strode up behind Morgan, tipping their head slightly. “Why, hello Morgan! I’m surprised to see you out at night.”
Morgan pauses, glancing up behind them. "It's the only time I seem to find this particular mushroom in these parts." He stands up, grabbing the basket. "How are you, Onyx?"
They smiled. “I’m quite well right now. Just busy getting to know everyone around town and the castle.” They ran a hand through their hair absentmindedly. “Say- what do you think of the townsfolk and the coven?”
Morgan pauses, eyeing Onyx carefully. “I wouldn’t say I have a particular opinion on anyone here. Everyone deserves to leave peacefully on these lands.” The herbalist tilts their head at Onyx. “Why’d you ask?”
They smiled down at the ground. “No particular reason. Just trying to get a grasp on everyone’s opinions I suppose.” They sighed, tilting their head to look up at the trees. “I’ve only had real conversations with a couple of people. Legs, Pyro, Scott, Allen, and-“ They paused and considered something for a moment. “I don’t suppose I can count Avid as a conversation- he did sort of just attack me and accuse me of being a vampire.” They chuckled slightly.
(@scarl3tt-h0rror as Allen)
“Avid does tend to get ahead of himself when accusing others.” Morgan smiles tiredly. “You said he attacked you?”
They glance over Onyx, subconsciously checking for any injuries.
They let out a tense chuckle, rubbing their shoulder. “Yes-when I first arrived to Oakhurst. I’m alright though- Doctor patched me up quite well.” Onyx sighed tiredly. “He’s quite the conspiracy theorist. Everyone knows that vampires aren’t real.” They looked blankly into the distance. “I don’t suppose you would know any fancy herb mixtures to help with stress would you?”
"Stress? Of course I do. Not out here, obviously. " They gesture around at the forest. "But should you need it, I have some mixtures back in town." Morgan grabs their basket, dusting off their clothes.
"Join me?"
Onyx hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Of course. Although u must admit I am a slight bit lost.” They chuckled quietly. “My navigational skills are sub par.”

Morgan laughs softly, simply holding out a hand for the other to take. “Good thing I’m pretty good at remembering the way then.”

They smiled, grabbing the others hand and following them to the town. “How’s your research coming along? I heard that you were on the search for herb books.”
Morgan hums as she leads Onyx back to town. “It’s going…well, I would say. My grandmother was knowledgeable, we had centuries of knowledge in our family…but Oakhurst has so much to offer. There’s just something special about this place.”
Morgan turns their head to face Onyx. “I don’t think I caught what brought you here.”
Onyx smiled, nodding along. “Oakhurst certainly holds much potential. I know Martyn was talking about finding some ‘magical’ book nearby.” They shook their head in amusement. “I’m not sure about that, but who knows.” They seemed a bit on edge about the question. “I suppose I just needed somewhere… safe to stay. Although from what I’ve heard- Oakhurst may not be the safest place. What’s your opinion on the vampire rumors?”
“Regardless of what truly exists in Oakhurst, we’re all here searching for sanctuary.” Morgan tells the other. “I don’t necessarily believe Avid, but if he’s right, why would I treat vampires any different?”
Onyx smiled down at the ground as they neared the town. “I do hope that’s everyone else feels the same.”
”As do I.”
Morgan leads Onyx to their house. “Come on in, make yourself comfortable. Let me just find those mixtures for you…” Morgan disappears into another section of the house. The kitchen, where Onyx is, is a quaint little thing, each surface cluttered with various herbs, tools and jars.
They sat down at a chair, observing as Morgan worked. “Thank you again. It’s not very often someone is kind for no reason.”
Morgan pauses briefly. "I wouldn't say I'm kind for no reason, but I appreciate it." They return, a small vial in his hand. "This is technically a sleeping elixir, but a drop or two a day should help prevent stress."
Onyx took it from him, holding it carefully. “Thank you. I suppose I should get back to my cabin soon. It’s turning night and I wouldn’t want to be caught out in the woods.” They stood, glancing at Morgan once more. “Thank you again Morgan. For the vial… and the company.”
Morgan smiles, watching them head toward the door. "Feel free to stop by at anytime."

There was a knock on the herbalist's door, Aria on the other side. She had ditched her heavy backpack for a smaller messenger bag, a large-ish book tucked under her arm.
"Hello! I heard you were an herbalist?"

Morgan opens the door in surprise, but smiles at Aria. “That I am. How may I help?”
She smiled warmly “I just figured I’d reach out, as someone with… similar ambitions.”
Morgan opens the door wider, confused, and gestures for her to come inside. "Similar ambitions, you say?"
She nodded, stepping inside."Yes. I found some of my older herbalism books in my library and figured I'd bring them over."
Morgan's eyes widen, and they pause. "Really? You've found texts on herbalism?" The herbalist goes silent, moving over to his desk to pull his own journal out.
"Most of the knowledge I have was passed down in my family. It's usually done this way...but you're saying you've found actual books?"
She nodded, grinning and setting the book down on the desk. "I come across a lot of different texts during my travels."
Morgan picks up the book, flipping through the pages. Some of the knowledge in it is familiar, things their grandmother had passed down to him. Some of it is new, things Morgan had never dreamed of using.
“This is…incredible. Where did you say you found this?”
"Warwig, i think? They start to blend together after a while."
“Warwig..? Interesting.” Morgan flips through the book. “Thank you Aria, truly. I appreciate it.”
"Of course," she smiled warmly. "You can keep it, if you want."
Morgan smiles. “I’d there anything else I can do for you Aria? To repay you?”
"We could just talk."
“Talk?” The herbalist tilts her head. “I haven’t just talked with anyone in a while, I don’t see why not.”
They walk over toward their kitchen, sitting on a chair at the table. She motions for Aria to sit.
Aria sat down across from her. "I don't think I caught your name."
“Morgan. Morgan Thornewood.” She smiles softly. “My family was from Oakhurst, many centuries ago. What brought you to this place?”
"Well, I'm not really from anywhere. I've been a nomad since I was 19, and before that my family still travelled around often. I just... came across Oakhurst, I guess."
Morgan listens intently, nodding slowly. "Nomadic, you say? You must have seen a lot in your travels."
