Also to be clear - this is a very intentional and reoccurring theming in this. It’s not happenstance it’s VERY explicit which makes the fact I’ve seen so little about it absolutely unhinged to me. I’ve only been through 6 episodes total so far and I cannot imagine discussing this beyond quips without the slavery being a huge factor bc it colors everything in a different light

Like the themes of assault/sexual assault aren’t just that of a woman, but of an enslaved woman. Themes of ensuring an enslaved, darker-skinned woman, knows and remembers “her place” when seen to be reaching above her station solely by existing and being owned. Just.

I need you to understand that while slavery in the US was/is of Black folks, and still exists in the US in multiple forms, there's also modern slavery of not just Black people, but Asian people as well—one example being of Filipinos both within The Philippines and abroad.

Like while im making comparison to Black experience because I'm Black, I'm still reading Anthy as Indian AND as a slave because she is.

An important contextual note is that *Japan was also a colonial empire that focused its subjugation towards other Asians*. A bunch of Japanese and white/mixed folks treating Anthy. that way at a British-inspired Japanese boarding school isn't exactly a novel concept!

Subjugation of "lesser Asians" was(/is) a huge fucking thing!

a lot of the imagery of the dynamic between kris and the soul is greatly enhanced when viewed through the lens of an internal conflict (plural or otherwise) and the fight with pink sets up the idea that the resolution to said conflict will be via mutual love and compassion, a cooperation which respects the needs of both parties. this would be a kind of weird end for kris' arc if interpreted purely through the lens of possession, which implicitly casts kris' removal of their soul as "regaining agency" and therefore at least somewhat of a good thing aside from its physical effects on kris. but if you see it as (at least in part) an internal struggle, where kris ripping out their soul is bad even independently of the harmful consequences on their body, a peaceful resolution of mutual cooperation is entirely cogent.

Wildfires in northern Ontario force First Nations to flee

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.

“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. “Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”
