Hiatus and Update

Hey there everyone! Sorry for the unannounced hiatus I’ve been on recently, I’ve just been feeling such a lack in the muse department that I couldn’t overcome. This has been a common theme with my past blogs when it comes to this character and I could never quite put my finger on, a hurdle I would seem to encounter any time I tried to play this character anywhere. For a long time this problem really baffled me and made me feel as though I was an incompetent writer until I realized what was actually going on, I was writing out of my need to try and please everyone. I tried to create a character everyone would love, but in turn I lost that certain passion that comes with creating an entire world and story, a passion that I feel is necessary. In writing separate from what I do on here Evren has a vastly different story from what I portray on this platform. 

So I decided I’m going to rebrand and restart what I’ve done with this character from the ground up. Turn him into the character that I’d always made him to be, come to understand that it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but write anyways because it is the story that I am passionate about. This will obviously extend the hiatus but I hope that you all understand, and I hope with this character I can bring many more, and much more interesting, interactions with you all in the future.

“Well, there’s a library at the capital. It’s got quite a bit of books, but there’s something odd about it…” Leola didn’t want to outright say it, due to the fear of being overheard, but much of the knowledge in those books was outdated. Having her father’s library, with books from a more advanced period that disproved most of the theories presented in what was considered the highest level of academia for the period made the library a hard sell for Leola.

“I’ll take you with me sometime. You can see for yourself what it has to offer. It’s a half a day by foot, from the docks, which is a half a day from the boats here. So we’ll need to stay at an inn or my brother’s place.”

Evren nodded “What’s odd about the library? does it have some sort of magical thing going on with it too? Are the books able to talk?” He joked with Leola.

“That sounds like it would be great! It would give me some time to get better acquainted with the area! Perhaps we can find some interesting things on the way there too! I’m sure there are just as many secrets on the main land as there are here”

He wouldn’t mind the outdated information of course, he’s been to plenty of incredibly advanced worlds. He was more so after the history and geographics of this world, that way he can catalog it and keep it’s history intact.

“any other places of note here?”

The Rematch

Jeanne turned away from Evren, checking their progress towards their destination, a few small jumps to go according to the console just below her hand. Looking back over her shoulder with a rather serious look, “drop those notions boy.”

“You plan to disrupt an order, any order of any kind. It doesn’t matter if good or evil, you will break the flow of things. People will be hurt, emotionally, physically, death is unavoidable. I wouldn’t normally say this to things I’m interested in but…drop all notions of morale high-ground and safety of everyone. You’ll only ruin yourself.”

“You’ll fail if you don’t, because someone will use that against you.”

Evren was surprised at Jeanne’s sudden change in demeanor. He felt an intensity from her that he didn’t feel before just now, she really was serious about him dropping his moral compass. But how could he? His mind was so set on one goal, and he had others to back him up... He had to be able to do this... right?

“I won’t fail. There has got to be a way to ensure people’s safety in this. I won’t falter from my path. Maybe you are right and someone will use it to try and get the better of me. But I chose this path and swore to myself... I swore to the way my goddess once was. When she was my mother. I can’t turn back on it now”

Evren had his own tone of seriousness in his voice. He was dead set on this mission and words seemed to do little to alter his choice. There was a certain gravity in his voice, one seemingly willing to sacrifice everything he had to achieve his goal.

It didn’t take a genius to figure out quite what Evren had in mind when he hefted up the axe in his hand and readied his other hand. Rune managed to open his mouth to protest before Evren had already sliced his palm open. Brow furrowed, Rune moved to scratch his head.

“I can’t say I’d’ve recommended that test trial but I suppose it works too.” Rune couldn’t say he knew this man’s regenerative abilities but if they were significant enough that he could tell that the rune stone worked than who was Rune to say otherwise? “Do you need to see a doctor or anything for that now…?”

How deeply had Evren cut himself? And did plant men even heal with stitches? Rune wasn’t sure if those were appropriate things to ask Evren at all.

Evren smiled and shook his head. He’d probably have to cut off his hand and let it grow back completely, though he’d do that later and spare Rune of seeing him cut his own hand off as well as bleeding everywhere.

“I’m good, the cut wasn’t too deep so it should be fine. This cloth should be fine for now until I can fix it up myself, don’t think most doctors would know how my body works so they probably couldn’t do much anyways.”

The plant man moved the axe to rest over his shoulder as he held the hilt.

“Oh! Do you want the rune back? Or would you be fine if I took it with me as well?”

The Rematch

“As evil as something is you need a pin to latch it in place, you know this race who’s ship we’re using had recently witnessed what is known as a war in heaven in the stars?” Jeanne spoke, informing Evren about a little bit of Collective history. “Two ancient empires awoke and began to clash, drawing all those around them into sides, into wars. We however did not join either, and thus the war unfolded into a three way galaxy brawl.”

“Through the hardships, we along with many other empires who wished not to pick any side, toppled the ancients. In defeat they left the galaxy, yet their war they made raged on. Their pawns fought, everyone scrambled for what was now free. They left a total power vacuum and it plunged the galaxy into chaos for a century more.”

“Removing your goddess no matter how evil, will cause the same effect no doubt. As those who wish the state of things to remain will rise, and though who wish for change will clash. You’ll be stuck in the middle, which is good which is bad?”

“You will be the architect of chaos, unless you are certain you have a pin to hold it all together till it can change gradually for the better.”

Evren nods as he thought. He had no doubt that others would rise up to stop him, especially other gods. If word got out about a Multi killing a god who knows what would happen, perhaps an entire uprising of Multis against their gods... Who knows what would happen after that...

The plant boy took a deep breath as he seemed trapped in thought for a good while. He would have to find someone. Not only that but they’d have to be someone most everyone can get around, or otherwise the operation would have to be extremely discreet. Either way there was a lot more to this then he had thought through. The last thing he wanted was to hurt others in collateral damage of his plan.

“Mmm I suppose you are right there... But I must do this. I will find the pin that will hold my plan together. And I will ensure that my actions don’t harm those around whom do not wish to take part. Otherwise I’d be just as bad as she is... Again though, I still have time to find this pin, whomever it may end up being”

“That’s exactly it. This in turn allows the gods to slowly grow in strength without needing to leave the comfort of their own domain. It looks quite lazy to me.” She’d give the boy a shrug, making absolutely certain no one was overhearing them. 

“On the topic of the greater gods, there seems to be no consistent information on any of them. The only things that seem to be common are how much farther above the greater gods are to their mortal followers. The demigods here still live on the earth day-by-day, but the greater ones seem to live in their own world.” 

Evren nods in agreement. Using followers as a source of energy and strength not only seemed lazy to him, but completely wrong in his eyes. A god should not abuse their followers, they should reward them. But perhaps he only had those ideals because of his own goddess, he wasn’t sure in the end.

“That sounds much closer to the way I know Gods work. Though I’ve only really gone in depth on learning about one god from where I come from so perhaps other gods may act differently still...”

Evren sighed before shaking his head. “Anyways, enough of this god talk, I want to continue looking around this place and maybe find some more things? Is there a place where I can find a bunch of complied data? Or books?”

Evren was a quick study, or at least a very observant fellow. Asking question after question, it was more than clear that this guy wanted to learn as he went. It was certainly an admirable quality to have, one that Rune could appreciate.

“You got it, don’t worry.” A small reassurance, though so long as the stone still had power it did not matter how it was placed within, so long as it was fit snug. “There’s not much power left in that stone, but if it works you’ll notice a faint glow from it and along the edge of the blade when you strike.”

A nasty bit of work that one, meant to force open wounds and leave them as such for beasts with quick regenerative skill. Still, when one fought a vicious opponent one had to use each advantage, no matter the skill in question. The only thing that hampered such motives was morality of the individual.

Fascinating... Evren was eager to try this out, though considering there weren’t any enemies around he could try it on, he didn’t have much a choice but to try it on himself, hoping that grazing his hand with it would activate the enchantment. 

He picked up that axe and slid it across his hand, leaving a slightly deep wound on it, wincing slightly as he did so. He noticed the weapon did in fact gleam when it cut his skin, so perhaps it was effective. He waited a few moments for his healing to kick in but nothing really happened to the wound, it was just there bleeding...

“Oh... It does in fact work quite well, I should probably stop this bleeding” With a small chuckle he removed a cloth from one of his pockets and wrapped his hand, applying pressure to stop the bleeding.

“Probably should have thought that one a little more through. But it worked through my healing so it seems quite effective at it’s job at least”

“Done.” Jeanne input a few commands into a terminal before it retreated into the wall and the ship started to move, barely felt given its size except for the subtle rumble of the engines starting to thrust. Soon it would be all smooth sailing again as Jeanne listened to Evren’s woes about his goddess.

“She has? Not that I believe goddesses every change, but she’s shown more of herself hmm?” Deep down Jeanne had a rather wild grin, but on the front she was showing but a concerned look with a soft smile to make things easier for Evren to speak.

“That’s a bold statement, though even if you did win..what would you do, do you have someone who could replace her Evren. That would be like myself removing the central unit to this empire, without it all falls apart. So I would need something to replace it, do you have that ready?”

Evren sighed again as he twiddled his thumbs. After a moment he looked up at Jeanne, falling for the front she had put on, he began to speak again.

“Honestly... I haven’t found someone fit to take the place. But I’ve been looking, I’ve been searching ever since the day I ran from Tyra. Despite that I still have time to look for someone. I still have a lot of training I need to do before I can take her on, and the others who have joined my cause are also training for that day...”

The boy thought of something, perhaps Jeanne could take his goddess’ place. She seems to rule over her own nation already... however who knows what would happen if she gained the power his god had. Tyra seemed to get corrupted by her own power, perhaps all people with such strength are destined to turn to that path. He shook the thoughts out of his mind, however kept Jeanne in the back of his mind as a possible candidate.

“I will find someone though. And I will ensure that I rigorously test them and make sure they will not go down the same path as she did... I’m already thinking of a battle plan if the assassination doesn’t go as planned. Considering her ability to change probability it will be an uphill battle to the end...”

Evren looked back down, deep in thought once more.

“You don’t have any yet?” Not entirely surprising, though if he wanted to make full use of that weapon’s potential than he’d need ‘em. “Hang on, let me see…”

Rune dug around in his large pockets, shifting through the items he had. Several fetishes were kept on his person, even when he tried to keep from using magic in the day-to-day. It never paid to be prepared, especially when he’d rather avoid someone well-versed in such. For now that was neither here nor there, of course, though it did make it difficult to fish out a simple runic stone.

“Here, this should at least give you an idea of how they work.” He passed it along, the obsidian only interrupted by the rune carving upon its surface. It wouldn’t be doing anything overly taxing or amazing, but a small buff to a weapon was better than nothing in most cases. “This one’s good for causing excessive bleeding. Well, a little, at least.”

Evren held the stone in the palm of his hand, carefully examining the obsidian stone. His finger traced the rune on the gem before he gently rubbed it and turned it in his hand. What an odd stone. Did it really posses the power to enhance a weapon? 

He gently then picked up his weapon and moved the stone over to one of the slots in it and pressed it in. Evren smiled slightly as he thought, it made sense that a boy named Rune would have at least one runic stone, but he quickly shook the idea from his mind.

“So how can I tell that the stone is working? Do I have to test it out in anyway? Or will it glow or something? Or did I even do it right?” He laughed slightly again, he wouldn’t be surprised if just jamming a stone into a weapon wouldn’t do the trick, but he could at least try.

“Yeah. Funny, a couple of things not known to this world describe its so-called gods best.” She felt that she was a far enough distance from the priests to speak out loud. “The text my brother and I have suggests a god much greater than those who walk this earth. But don’t speak of that to anyone here.”

Still, it would be best that Leola explained her stance on the matter. “Priests are unique in that, they can use their god’s magic power to use magic. It’s an odd relationship that is supposedly beneficial to both parties. As for the janitor part, it has to do with those greater gods. I have the suspicion they’re only here to do their bidding.”

Hmmm, a text that describes a god greater than those who are worshiped here. Perhaps they are his own gods? Or maybe they are another set of gods, he wasn’t sure but he’d want to get his hands on the text and read it... if it was in a language he could read at least.

“So then... the priests, they worship said god and in turn they receive a portion of their power in turn? Probably using a bit of the ‘energy’ that the priests give them? Does it work something like that? And what all do you know about these greater gods?”

“Another rematch?” Jeanne questioned, tapping her fingers on a hollow display that propped up, placing commands for the ship to move. “Well we can’t fight here, so we’ll find a nice planet, what suits you best, what sort of terrain.” Jeanne offered the home field advantage to Evren, considering it was her universe in a sense, the one she knew the most and the magic she could use here was second to none.

“Oh? We have some time before we arrive at whatever planet type you choose…tell me more Evren, as you know I had quite the vested interest in your goddess. So I would love to know what happened to my interest.”

Evren nods and thinks for a moment. He’d probably do best in a forest area, though he might have some more options if the place has more metallic materials. Even still he had no idea what he’d choose that’d have plenty of metal for him to use.

“Lets go to a forested area! I feel like I’ll have a few tricks up my sleeve there more so than in other places”

With that the plant man took another pause. What all could he tell her? He didn’t really have much information on what really happened with her. After all wool had been pulled over his eyes for so long he wasn’t sure if her actions now represented her actions before. She felt different for sure, but he wasn’t sure exactly in what way. For all he knew perhaps Jeanne knew from the beginning that Tyra was a tyrant. Evren took a deep breath before speaking.

“She’s... changed. I think at least. Recently I’ve become more aware of how terrible some of her actions have been to some of her worshipers... I asked her about it and she began to treat me the same. I realized that this entire time she’s been lying to me, lying about her actions, hiding them by ensuring that I wouldn’t realize that her actions were evil” Evren grit his teeth, tears welling up. He wiped the few the fell before clearing his throat and holding back the rest.

“Simply put, I rebelled. I’m planning on taking her out of her position of power for good and putting someone better in her place. That’s part of the reason I’m here to challenge you. If I can hold up against you, I’ll be able to hold up against her no doubt”

It was nice to know that their work was traveling farther in the world, hopefully helping others more than they hurt. Still, the whims of a weapon’s wielder was none of Rune’s business after it left his hands. Such a cheery guy, though? Rune couldn’t imagine him maliciously striking at another without a reason.

His thoughts broke, the mention of the emptied sockets brought to his attention.

“Oh, those? Runic stones are meant to be slotted in there, so it grants a weapon magical properties. Useful for those who go up against the cursed beasts.”

“Runic stones? Where can I find some to slot in? Or to study. I’d love to look more into these stones. I don’t believe we have those kinds of things where I come from so I’d to at least find one to study!”

Not only that but these cursed beasts he was talking about interested him too. Perhaps he could find or buy one of these stones and go up against a cursed beast. He’d like to see the difference between the use of a weapon equipped with a stone and one without one.

“They’re called gods, but they’re more like giant batteries people worship for some reason.” She whispered in his ear. The last thing she needed were angry priests in her face. “Stepmom always said the seven gods of this land were just janitors of sorts, making sure it didn’t get too dirty. I’m almost inclinded to agree, really.”

While whispering, she was half-dragging the plant boy away from the robed men. Considering her own status, it was weird talking about herself like that. “I would say Melidra has the second or third biggest following among the seven gods. My best guess would be the gods of creation and death holding the top two spots.”

Janitors? Giant Batteries? It seemed as though Leola wasn’t much a fan of these so called gods. He wondered why she wasn’t a fan, perhaps the gods of this realm were vastly different in the way they act from the gods he knew. Ultimately Evren decide to question her about her stance on the gods another day.

“Giant batteries? and Janitors? In what way are they like that?” Evren kinda just let her pull him along, not really caring as he asked his question

“I’ve had this ship for about 50 years, and its been about 462 years since I found this collective. From a dead tomb world of a planet to controlling part of the galaxy. Pretty impressive huh?” Jeanne answered casually as she sat herself down, getting off her feet after a long day of planning.

“I had them long before we first met, but how are you? Clearly you’re not hear for just a meet and greet, but it is also nice to see you. How is your goddess?”

Wow, 462 years?? That’s almost as old as he is. To think when he was just a little seedling Jeanne was already strong enough to save an entire nation. That thought somewhat scared him, just how powerful is she? At the very least he could rest somewhat easy about her not abusing that power, she did save a nation from destruction, you’d have to at least have some kindness and sense of right and wrong to do something like that.

“That’s truly amazing Jeanne. And yeah I wanted to challenge you to another rematch like last time! I have new tricks up my sleeve and I won’t fall as quickly as last time. Hopefully” He chuckled. His face however became nervous at the mention of his goddess. What should he say? Should he be truthful? He had expected to be so, but now face to face with the actual option of telling Jeanne his plans, he wasn’t so sure anymore.

“W-well, she’s still alive... There have been somethings that have happened in the last few years honestly... saying a few things would be an understatement and a half.”

Guessed right on the mark. She enjoyed the idea of it, the feeling of it. Pretty much all of it. From doing it to others, for her doing it to herself, or others giving her pain. It just filled her body with such blissful excitement that cannot be contained. She needed to let it all out, and show the whole entire world how good it truly feels.

She would lose grip, and she just gave a small little cough of a moan from just being hit. She truly was a strange girl, but now. It looked like she was trying to adjust herself so she can come at the other again and keep hold of them.

Nope nope nope nope. There was no way he would stay around any longer now. This little girl couldn’t possibly do much, she was just very strange to say the least. Using the moment that she had lost her grip he quickly yanked his ankle from her hand.

With that he began to slowly move backwards away from the girl before turning and bolting off. He had no idea what even just happened but he didn’t mind that now, he just wanted to leave the situation at all costs.
