Every morning, the queen asked her magic mirror to show her the most beautiful person in the world.
The mirror replied "To whom?"
"The miller who made the flour for my bread," the queen would say, or "Whoever spun the thread my shawl was made of".
The mirror would show her, and she'd be amazed.
The first time, she says "To me," and the mirror dutifully shows her her reflection. And she is pleased.
The second time, she says "To the King," and she is pleased to see herself once more.
The third time, she says "To the Royal Advisor," and is once more satisfied to see herself.
The fourth time, she says "To the scribe who takes the King's letters." She is shown the man's wife. And she seethes, but quiets herself, for it is only right that a man loves his wife.
The fifth time, she says "To the Court Wizard," and is shown the man's departed mother as he remembers her from his youth, radiant and smiling and warm and larger than life.
The tenth time, she says "To the Stable Master," and is shown the fastest horse in the stable, majestic and free as the wind even in captivity
"To the baker," she is shown the man's daughter, young and adorable and full of joy and laughter.
"To the artist who did my portrait," she is shown a painting of a woman done by the man's teacher, who he still looks up to now that he is well established himself.
"To the Royal Knight," she is surprised but not displeased to see the castle's entire guard force in the middle of doing drills.
The one hundredth time she asks the mirror, and it asks her "to whom?" she once again says, "To me." And she does the same the one hundred and second, and again and again and again.
It is a different person each time, and they are all beautiful.
One fun thing about learning new languages is reconsidering the structure of words and language in your mother tongue. It seems with each new language I study, I get more little insights into English, either in how it's similar or how it's different.
For example, a couple years ago, while learning Spanish, I encountered the word for a store, "la tienda." I thought "huh, that's a lot like tener (tiene) - the word for store in Spanish literally corresponds to 'to have/keep'. How interesting!"
Then I stopped for a moment, and for the first time in my life, thought about seriously about the meaning of English word for the place where you buy things, "a store."
They say "quit infantilizing adults" as justification for old perverts dating teenagers.
Let's compare them to disabled adults, another group of adults who are frequently infantilized.
Imagine that someone finds disabled adults attractive. They specifically prefer dating disabled adults and openly admit it's because of seeing them as more likely to obey. They loudly proclaim "quit infantilizing disabled adults" and "disabled adults are competent whether you like it or not" as justification for sexually pursuing them, while being silent or even actively supportive of other ways disabled adults are infantilized or assumed incompetent. They easily tolerate laws that discriminate against disabled adults. They use "I can barely tell that you're disabled" as a compliment then switch to ableist slurs as an insult whenever the disabled adult steps out of line. They never hang out with disabled adults as peers and only ever want them around for sexual purposes. They regularly talk about how annoying disabled adults are.
The disabled community would pretty much unanimously see this person as a blatantly obvious predator. And youth liberationists should feel the same way about adults who date 18 year olds.
Liberation of an oppressed group is about upholding their freedom at all times and prioritizing the times that are inconvenient for the oppressors. It's not liberating to insist on someone being competent when it's convenient for you.

There’s an interview with Laz Alonso where whoever he was talking to expressed their shock that he’s not Afro Latino in terms of Black Parent + Latino Parent, Laz is Cuban with African roots. He said like “first and foremost I’m black then I’m Cuban.”
I don’t remember the whole convo, but he said something that was like Latinos who can be identified as Afro Latino like “only focus on where the ships dropped us off, they forget where the ships took us from.” And said like “you can be Latin, but you’re black first.”
He’s also said that like “in the home” he’s Cuban, he was seen as Cuban and amongst Cubans. But when he walked out of the house he was black. People see his black features but not both aspects of his cultural identity.
children are so fucking funny man. i just overheard a kid go “i just learned a new way to pinch, wanna see it? it hurts a lot more!” followed by a loud, notably pained scream
