Chinese Style Powder Foundation Cosmetic Design

A traditional Chinese cosmetic with luxury elegance reminds me of imperial harem of Qing Dynasty. Thus, I’ve done lots of research to understand the culture of imperial harem. Story of Yanxi Palace (延禧攻略) a popular custume drama, has demonstrated detailed Chinese Qing apparel and decorations. I use the Chinese pattern of wood-curving and arch shape as the main design elements of the product.

In the Chinese culture, flowers are usually representing different ranks of imperial consorts. The Peony represents the empress, the highest rank of imperial consorts which is the wife of empire. I use this concept of Peony to emphasize the luxury of this powder foundation cosmetic product by adding golden relief on the detail.

When I took a look on traditional Chinese cosmetics, I discovered that the lacquer finish of the container is fascinating. The bright reflection with dark color brings out low-key luxury. In Chinese culture, lacquer works are also a high end craftsmanship, it can obviously brings out the Chinese traditional elegance. I took the lacquer finish as the texture that I use on the design.

I’ve consolidated all the information just to hope that the design stick to tradition well. Since Chinese culture can be easily out of focus due to its long and deep culture history. Hope you like the design.
