Continuing reading the Daggerheart Colossus of the Drylands campaign frame, and there’s this little section about how everybody and their grandma around here has a mount (because western):

And they’re all cool and badass and fantasy, and I’m totally rocking up to town on a giant centipede (or building a character whose wanderborne family have a massive giant tortoise as almost a mobile town), but then there was that last one.

A robotic mount.

Because this is industrial, wild west fantasy, we’ve got steampunk tech out here. And that immediately made me think of one thing. Well, no. Actually three things. Firstly, the robot horses in Bravestarr and Galaxy Rangers, because weird science-fantasy westerns was apparently a semi-popular genre of 80s cartoons? But then, and most prominently, it made me think of the robotic (biomechanical?) horses in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

And it occurs to me that … take a huge chunk of the mechanics and inspiration from ‘Colossus of the Drylands’, sprinkle a lot of vampires liberally around it, and bring the tone closer to ‘Age of Umbra’, and you could probably make a campaign frame that’s a decent approximation of the Vampire Hunter D setting? Might need to homebrew a vampiric ancestry and a few other bits and bobs, but honestly, totally doable. Colossus and Umbra between them have already done a chunk of the work.

Sorry. Just. Colossus of the Drylands is genuinely so exciting to me. It's making a bunch of random things spark in my brain.
