The Great Mizuti from Baten Kaitos has one, if not my most favourite character design. Her whole costume is just such a rich feast for the eyes, just absolutely gorgeous. Been obsessed since I was a kid. Just so beautiful. That game has beautiful character art for everyone but she was just so unique and special. If you want an old jrpg with beautiful art and music, and a card based battle system which is so varied and creative, play Baten Kaitos Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. I drew this for an art meme, her category was for ‘most liked design’.

【Notes on This Work】 I’ve loved the relationship between these two characters ever since I first played the game as a child. Although the ending leaves their future unclear, I’ve always hoped that Mizuti would return to their hometown from time to time, and that Mizuti and Kee would remain special friends. This work came from that wish. Because Mizuti is a character whose true feelings are often difficult to read in the original story, I wanted to explore those emotions—how they open up, and how that process deepens their bond. Many of the scenes are based on the original setting and on my own impressions of their relationship, expanded into non-canon interpretations. I also deeply love this game’s world, so I try to bring life to the unnamed characters and the background as well. If even a little of that atmosphere reaches you, I’ll be very happy.

【日本語メモ】 昔からずっと好きだったゲームとキャラを扱った二次創作漫画です。(CP要素なし) エンディング後の二人がどうなったのか、自分なりの解釈や捏造設定を交えて描いています。 原作では見えづらかった感情や関係性を、成長や絆として表現できればと思って制作しました。 世界観や名前のない人たちも含めて“生き生きした世界”が感じられたら嬉しいです。 日本の方も、よければぜひ読んでいただければ幸いです。

Chrono Cross and Baten Kaitos both hold a very dear spot in my heart. They have always lingered in my mind for numerous reasons, but mostly for the gorgeous fantasy worlds they depict.. Varied landscapes and unique settings that give off a certain exotic intangible. Takes me back...

Full redesign of a Baten Kaitos OC I've had in some form since I was about 14! Recently wrote almost 40k words about her miscellaneous misadventures and figured "huh, I should draw her". It's too sloppy and self-indulgent to post in full, but there's one scene I'm thinking about heavily re-writing and posting as a one shot... but literally 0 people will read it, so it depends on my own inertia...

Her outfit's too tame for a Baten Kaitos character but I didn't want to come up with a pain-in-the ass design that would put me off drawing her, so I split the difference. Got attached to the concept of half-capes on one shoulder and the opposite hip, with peeks of bright red lining.

Her uniform is right on the intersection between "doctor" (howie-style coat) and "clergy" (structured collar and gold trim detail) to allude to the fact that she heals with both medicine and magic.

She fights with a lantern purely because I thought the image of someone spinning poi to cast spells was unique and evocative, but my partner pointed out it links her to the Hermit tarot (the story in question is heavy on tarot themes) so now it's because she's the Hermit tarot... retrospectively. Folon is the Fool, obviously.

Agonized over her height a bit - she's meant to be more or less of height with Folon. Found a thread of the Japanese side of the fandom doing all sorts of inferences to approximate character heights and Folon is... approximately 5'5"~5'6" (Kalas and Lyude as well). That seems super short to me, but it's probably a really average male height in Japan...
