good bad deeds

It’s a very Indian thing but we do believe in good and bad deeds or karma as we say. But what are these? One person kills another in name of some faith and believes that he has done something right, a good karma and on the other hand another may think that he has earned a bad deed just by killing an ant. We think we are doing right but what may be right for us may be wrong for other person’s parameters. So how to judge acha aur bura karma?
