i just wanna hold him & tell him how much i love him. i love making ppl feel better, but i think helping eddie love himself would also help me feel appreciated. i wanna tell him how pretty he is & look straight in his eyes :,,(

he doesn't know how to react at first, you touching him. your reassurances make him feel all floaty and light, like his mind is drifting away somewhere else, somewhere better....he doesn't want to cry, but he could, the sting in his eyes is there. Eddie buckles when you pull your arms round him, lay your head on his collar as you hug him, and in the few seconds it takes for him to realize that this is okay, this is a good touch, he can hug you back and he wants to, you're already, gently, pulling away, unsure of whether it's too much all at once. but you can't get far, because Eddie clings to your arms, wraps his ring-knuckled fingers around them, and pulls you back in even harder to hug you so tight and nuzzle his face into your hair. so tight he's practically squeezing the air out of your lungs, but he needs it so badly he doesn't ever want to let go. he sways a little in the embrace, soothes the pitter-pattering of his heart like an army of rabbit's feet in his chest. it's a more comforting gesture than words could ever express--but he's still got his ears out for your sweet voice telling him all those beautiful things, all those praises he didn't think he deserved even though they'll stick in his brain forever.

I have a silly little hc that during high school Steve was actually terrified of Eddie. He was loud, fought back and was so unapologetically himself and that scared Steve because he's never met anyone like him before. He saw Eddie laugh loudly in the hallways with his friends and goof around in a way that was so different to Steve and his 'friends'. Steve didn’t even know it was normal for friends to hug until he saw Eddie pull Gareth in for a hug randomly one afternoon and then he did the same for all his other friends. He was so openly affectionate with them, it made something inside Steve ache. If he ever tried to hug Tommy he'd shove Steve off and tell him not to be weird. He tried to talk to Eddie once, they were sat next to each other in detention. Eddie had instantly put up his guard the second Steve turned to look at him and told Steve to fuck off before he could even get a word out. He never tried again.
