Not born but evolved through intentions, words and actions.
Humanity cannot be exhaustively defined. A lot of things 'mean' humanity and a lot of things 'require' humanity.
Humanity is sometimes confused with doing social works🤣. People doing social works do it absolutely out of their interests. Thoserks are done out of humanitarian feel but humanity is not limited to it. Not all people donating to the poor have humanity nor we can say those not doing any social acts don't possess.
I don't know why people link those social works with humanity and get confused. This has created a degree of subjectivity to this term humanity. What I feel is social work or humanly act may not be felt by you in the same way. From giving a biscuit packet to a needy child to waiting for an old aged person before us to cross the way without showing face, any act of kindness reflects humanity. I prefer not to give a penny to beggars with good physical capabilities as I am not able to differentiate between those begging for the need of food and those begging for want of liquor! I have seen men begging at one end of the road and smoking on the other end. But some feel helping beggars as social work. Voluntary workers are helping rehabilitating beggars and some organisations working on the same. It is no doubt an appreciable work. Just that I am not able to identify the genuineness of those getting help, as beggars with smartphones and costly wallets don't beg for want to food but they made begging as their Job without searching for a job. As far as the people who get help are genuine, no doubt it is a humanitarian act. But what is the highest form of help for me is to help a child to get a proper education. Or at least helping in a possible way irrespective of how smaller it could be. I feel education paves the way for solutions to many problems. People involve these activities if they are interested in and based on what they feel is a social activity that can create some changes. And now only these acts of humanity are subjective. Some are willing to do and some may not. But what we have noted is this subjectivity doesn't extend to the common meaning of humanity, which is to be possessed by any human being😅. It is a very wide term, where doing such social works or donations are just a very small part.
That's why I said not all who donate possess humanity🤣. Humanity is a lot more to do with intentions and actions.
The thoughts, words as well as actions need to communicate humanity.
The way people treat transgenders, the security of their apartment and anyone for that matter involves humanity in actions.
The common and simple meaning of Humanity is to possess the right mixture of selflessness and selfishness. Possessing this right mixture doesn't cost much. There is a reason why I used just these two words, 'selfless' and 'selfish'. I feel these 2 words are wide enough to cover whatever I construe as humanity. We need not interpret the literal meaning of these 2 words. Selfless need not necessarily mean to be selfless every time everywhere. It is just that we should not be selfish and refrain from giving the due respect which we would have expected to receive. Treating fellow people in the way we would have expected them to treat us itself is a selfless act nowadays.
When an old woman has fallen on the Railway station platform, the person who is intending to help, standing at 10 feet distance is running to reach that lady. But the very next person standing in the same place where the lady has fallen is still looking at the act and waiting for the train as if nothing has happened. This act of kindness to help a fallen old lady doesn't cost some money nor costs much time. It's just 3 to 5 mins on a platform where the train is yet to arrive🙄. It just needs the heart to help.
When there is a rape case reported in News, the opposition party screams at the ruling party, media is happy on reporting on such News for its increase in TRP (in phrasing the words of News) and casteist looks for the caste of the victim before raising the voice. So people who are in power and position to fight, fight for their cause and none is fighting to get justice. Now all three categories of people lack humanity here.
Earlier it was the caste that divided people. That was to some extent solved by the generation gap. This casteist attitude is done away with in few places. But now money and status have come in place of caste. So the new caste now is money and status. People think a lot before giving their water bottle to street vendors or vendors on the platform. I wonder why and what is there to think in that. Even now some people don't allow the garbage cleaners inside their house to use washrooms, give them water in a tumbler and address them without respect irrespective of their age. People divide themself into a level based on financial capacity, based on job or the so-called 'status' which these inhumane people have unfortunately obtained as a birthright and think they are at a higher level to them. Only such thoughts make them refrain from giving water from their water bottle to a fellow human being just because they work on the streets. They crave to maintain their status and the bossy mentality doesn't let them allow their old aged security to sit for an hour or two. And people disrespect transgender for no mistake on their part. It is very well possible to accept them in society. But that community of people faces harassment everywhere and are denied jobs. The root of all these vice actions are the mindsets of people.
We come across such people frequently. And you identify more of them, if you are good at networking skills and assessing people. Have you not met such people in your life or not seen any such things? Great! It's a boon💚.
All these inhumane humans forget that soul is given a body and it is the body that owns the identity, the so-called status in society. It is not the soul which owns the status or the position in society (caste, Financial position anything it could be). It is believed that the karma of someone decides their birth status. May be their good karma gave them a good place in society but they forget that the soul is subject to pass its exam. When someone takes undue advantage of being in a good position or being born in a well-settled or well-educated family, then it is believed that the soul faces the same situation in the next jenma😅. That's why Karma is a called boomerang😂. The situations which test our humanity is not much difficult to pass. We just need to bear a sense that we are humans and act accordingly without allowing the money, status or the boon of being born with birthrights to overpower the decisions of the soul.
Now, Does it costs much to maintain a human mannerism in our actions? Absolutely no. But still being human is considered expensive for no valid reason. Not all born as humans are human beings. A human being evolves by his intentions, words and actions.
Kindness can't be taught to someone nor it can be bought🤣. It is to be realized. And one important way of realizing this is being empathetic. When we put ourselves in place of others we get better clarity of their position. In my childhood whenever I saw children of my age begging on the streets without going to school, I realized the value of the education I got. Those incidents made me fix my long term life goal to teach needy children. Or at least bear a needy child's education cost.
The degree of impact empathy can have surely can't be worded. It makes us realise many things. Based on my interactions with the aforesaid kind of people I felt they need to possess empathy. There may be many other things that people of the above category need, to develop basic humanity in their actions but I am not much aware of what are those😅. What I am very much sure of is they lack empathy.
Though I have generalized and referred to the part of population, there are still 'humans' with a decent level of humanity in their actions, living on earth. Wish such people will be more in future.
