An update on how my work life is going.

intro

I've been at my current job since 2nd March 2020. That's 992 days since I first started. Crazy.

My current salary is £37,250. When I started, I was on £29,000. I remember during my interview, they asked my what salary expectations were and I said £25k because when I looked online, that was the average salary for a motion designer in London.

I guess I am doing alright for myself. Still regret that I didn't sort my life out better when I was younger but oh well, it's not too bad now.

covid-19

2 weeks after I started my job in London, covid struck. For a week, I worked from home at my cousin's house where I was staying, then I moved back home, thinking I would return not long after. A year into lockdown, I got all my stuff delivered back home from my cousin's. My job now has the option of being fully remote which I am absolutely grateful for.

10 times out of 10, I will choose to work at home. There's just too many pros. Some days, I get out of bed at 10 and game until 11am before I start work, and still get to finish at around 5-6pm. It's amazing. I get to take naps, I get to eat whatever I want, I don't need to commute.

It's literally a dream job if the work I do wasn't absolutely soul-draining.

I create those shitty mobile ads with fake gameplay. I create about 4 to 5 of these ads every day. That's like 25 shitty mobile ads I produce a week. I really hate doing this kind of work, but I'm also comfortable and the benefits of working from home is really hard to beat. I also don't have a good enough portfolio to apply for anywhere else.

my plans

I think after my grandad passes (he's 103 years old right now), I'll start making plans to get a job in Dubai. It's not a permanent thing. If I don't like it, I'll come back to the UK, but I would really like to try it out. No tax and good pay. Still need a decent portfolio though so I need to work on that. But yeah, it would be a dream to work in Dubai if I can. My girlfriend is down to go with me so how great is that?

Hey what's up. I bought a new keyboard today. It's called the Epomaker TH80 and so far, it's awesome. It's pre-lubed and so thoccy. It's actually the reason why I have come back to this abandoned blog. I just really wanted an excuse to type a lot of words on this keyboard.

Here, take a look at it:

These are the stock keycaps but I'm going to replace them with the Gundam-style ones that Zaina got me last year.

When browsing for a new keyboard, it was essential that it would have a volume knob. Can't live without one anymore.

This is the first time I've used switches that aren't brown. These are linear Gateron Yellow Pro switches and to be honest, I'm in love.

So will I be blogging more often now? Perhaps. The typing experience is a high, but also I want to record more of my life here. It will always be fun to read back on it in a few years.

By the way future Andy, I am 29 years old right now. Already an old man and too old for tumblr! But tumblr has a clean and simple layout, perfect for blogging.

There actually exists people that look forward to the next day. They're so happy and they can't wait to see what tomorrow holds for them. I want that.

Camera Day Out Vlog

So I’ve had this idea for a while now. I want to vlog a day out where I just take photos with a camera, maybe the X-T2 or some film one. If I use an X-T2, I can show the photos I’ve taken right after, which would be cool.

Kinda just wanted to make this post so that I actually remember to do it. It would be really cool and calming to watch hopefully.

Comparing Success

Everyone says you live life at your own pace. I agree, but then why do I still compare myself to everyone? Why do I have this destructive behaviour?

I saw an old ex-best friend today, David. I'm good friends with his cousin, Nathan. I was talking to Nathan at the Chinese supermarket when we ran into David. I hadn't spoken to David in years, perhaps 4 or 5. We conversed a little and I learned that he now owns 2-3 houses and is now a father. I know he's successful, or at least he's getting there. And here I am, not even beginning the ascent of success yet.

I feel like shit right now. I know I couldn't follow his path, it doesn't sound fun or like me at all, but I'm not comparing out paths, I'm comparing our successes. Yeah sure, his success is not the same as my success but he knows what he wants and he had the motivation to achieve it. Maybe I'm jealous then? I felt ashamed to talk about my own life. I don't know. I know that I don't want to see him again. I don't really feel like seeing any of my successful friends...

Hi and welcome to my blog. Here, I’ve created a safe space for me to share my thoughts. I figure this would be a good way for me to self-reflect since I neglect to do this in real life. Blogging used to be somewhat therapeutic for me so I’ve decided to try again.

Well, enjoy your stay. I’m going to sharing my thoughts, photos and things I find interesting. We’ll see how it goes, but I anticipate that this will eventually become a place that will represent me well as a person.
