what I basically did today was:

learnt about exoplanets and transit

learnt about stellar evolution

jotted down the main ideas about radiation mechanics

practised problems on radiation mechanics from USAAAO (ironically I'm from Europe but the explanations there are GREAT)

blackbody radiation revision (I understood NOTHING I'm cooked fr fr)

did some observational practice with an emphasis on alpha stars

practised messier objects (location + aspect

I am so awfully behind with the syllabus and genuinely overwhelmed but ill figure shit out eventually, tomorrow I should certainly focus on problem solving more!

What is your favorite type of celestial body and why?

I simply cannot choose a favourite. I love every part of space, and I want to learn every possible thing I can about our universe. It’s the best thing I know of, like seriously. Space is my passion

There’s one thing I like a little more about space than others, but I guess it can’t be considered a celestial body of any type? Dark matter. Dark. Freaking. Matter. It’s a theoretical/hypothetical substance that makes up about 85%** of our universe. So called “normal” matter (the visible stuff we can touch and perceive) makes up only about 5%. What could dark matter be then? We don’t know. Nobody knows yet. We just assume there is something there, because according to the laws of physics there has to be something. We still haven’t been able to detect it because we simply don’t know how to. It cannot be seen or touched. It basically has to be there to hold galaxies and such together. Without it they would fall apart. So yeah, we basically don’t know what makes up most of the universe.

** Apparently NASA says dark matter only makes up about 27% of the universe, and dark energy makes up more, about 68%. Together they make up about 95% and the rest, less than 5%. Crazy to think about

Why I like dark matter so much? His Dark Materials. A series I started watching last year and finished early this year. I loved it. I seriously recommend it. It’s based on a book series by Philip Pullman.
