Deathbed

I never had the skin for this world The people in it are too sharp... So sharp that I wonder, If when the earth turned my body to bones You could see the scratches On their surface... I never had the eyes to see the future In the way that life always whispers How it’s right there in front of you I just reached out into the darkness Feeling around for what? I don’t know... I never had the voice To bind another soul to mine Could never find the words That would essentially make up me So the rest of the world Could read me and relate I never had the heart for love Or the blood That would taste like wine On the lips of those Who were thirsty for it.. I only had the muscle That rattled inside When i took a breath And everything shook Looking back... I never really lived...

Remember back when you were young... back before anyone ever broke your heart... back before all your mistakes and imperfections? Back when you were free from worrying about what others think of you, what you looked like, what you dressed in, what side of town you lived on... Back when you didn't have to worry about bills or debts or working 50 plus hours a week just to stay afloat. Back when life was simple and your soul was just a blank canvas ready for life to paint into a unique picture. I wish you could just wipe that canvas clean. Start all over knowing the things you know now. Oh the things I would change... The memories I would rewrite... The people I would avoid... ..... ..... The people I wouldn't... The words I would say, And the ones I would keep under my tongue... It's a hard thing, to be human. To carry our thoughts and our feelings with us constantly. At the end of it all, when we face oblivion... we should be given Purple Hearts. Because each and every one of us are soldiers in our own private wars.

Nightwalker

I go for these long walks at night, Sometimes to exercise my body, Sometimes to exercise my demons... And as the sun starts to sink I pass by all these homes With their living rooms lit up And happy families all sprawled out on the floor Playing with their children Laughing, smiling, living... And I wonder to myself, "Why can't that be me?"... And that's how I feel inside. Like an outsider looking in With his nose pressed against the glass Imagining his life like that for just one day. You almost wanna laugh with them So you can be a part of it Cuz that's what you crave. But like a breath against a pane glass window All hints of you eventually fade...
