hello. I am very shy about my fic writing and don't like being perceived so this is a throwaway acct so I can share the occasional fics I do write w/o it being attached to me. heads up that I barely use this blog and basically just throw out excerpts/links to posted ao3 fics. lots of nsfw content here, but it's all labeled as such :)
is there such a thing as a beta but instead of reading for line edits or plot notes, they just read my work and recommend what tags to put on ao3 outside of like. warnings.
Lulu's Totally Unofficial Guide to the Top 10 Freeform Tags to Add to Your Fanfic
Genre - Fluff, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Slice of Life, Case Fic, etc.
AU - If it's an AU, what kind? What role do each of the characters play? How is it different to their canon role?
Parts of canon - If it's not an AU, what part of canon is it about? Is it set before, during or after a particular episode?
Themes - Are there any topics or ideas which you are trying to explore, or which come up repeatedly?
Minor Warnings - Is there anything you think you should warn for that isn't included in the archive warnings?
Format & Length - Is your work art, video, podfic, etc? Does it use a particular format like a Drabble or 5+1?
Characters - What is going on with each of your major characters? If you had to describe them with one or two adjectives, what would you pick? (Format as [Adjective] [Character Name].)
Relationships - What is going on with each of your major relationships? Are there any relationship tropes like Slow Burn or Enemies to Lovers in your story?
Tropes - Are there any tropes or common story elements in your story that haven't been tagged yet? If your work was on TV tropes, what are the first things you would add?
Sex - If your work includes sex, what kink(s) and specific act(s) does it involve?
Remember: you can always look at the drop-down menu for suggestions. But! If you want to tag something that doesn't appear on the drop-down menu, you can & should write in a new tag!
This is one of the things r/ao3 is actually pretty helpful for, in fact I think centrumlumina's guide is almost word-for-word match for advice that i see posted regularly on there. Its also great for "here's a thing that happens in my story/i want to warn readers about, is there a tag for that?" (Or even "this tag i already know about doesn't suit my purposes for xyz reasons. What can i do instead?")

Writing tips for long fics that helped me that no one asked for.
1.) Don't actually delete content from your WIP unless it is minor editing - instead cut it and put it in a secondary document. If you're omitting paragraphs of content, dialog, a whole scene you might find a better place for it later and having it readily available can really save time. Sometimes your idea was fantastic, but it just wasn't in the right spot.
2.) Stuck with wording the action? Just write the dialog then revisit it later.
3.) Stuck on the whole scene? Skip it and write the next one.
4.) Write on literally any other color than a white background. It just works. (I use black)
5.) If you have a beta, while they are beta-ing have them read your fic out loud. Yes, I know a lot of betas/writers do not have the luxury of face-timing or have the opportunity to do this due to time constraints etc but reading your fic out loud can catch some very awkward phrasing that otherwise might be missed. If you don't have a beta, you read it out loud to yourself. Throw some passion into your dialog, you might find a better way to word it if it sounds stuffy or weird.
6.) The moment you have an idea, write it down. If you don't have paper or a pen, EMAIL it to yourself or put it in a draft etc etc. I have sent myself dozens of ideas while laying down before sleep that I 10/10 forgot the next morning but had emailed them to myself and got to implement them.
7.) Remember - hits/likes/kudos/comments are not reflective of the quality of your fic or your ability to write. Most people just don't comment - even if they say they do, they don't, even if they preach all day about commenting, they don't, even if they are a very popular blog that passionately reminds people to comment - they don't comment (I know this personally). Even if your fic brought tears to their eyes and it haunted them for weeks and they printed it out and sent it to their friends they just don't comment. You just have to accept it. That being said - comment on the fic you're reading now, just do it, if you're 'shy' and that's why you don't comment the more you comment the better you'll get at it. Just do it.
8.) Remove unrealistic daily word count goals from your routine. I've seen people stress 1500 - 2000 words a day and if they don't reach that they feel like a failure and they get discouraged. This is ridiculous. Write when you can, but remove absurd goals. My average is 500 words a day in combination with a 40 hour a week job and I have written over 200k words from 2022-2023.
9.) There are dozens of ways to do an outline from precise analytical deconstruction that goes scene by scene to the minimalist bullet point list - it doesn't matter which one you use just have some sort of direction. A partial outline is better than no outline.
10.) Write for yourself, not for others. Write the fic you know no one is going to read. Write the fic that sounds ridiculous. You will be so happy you put it out in the world and there will be people who will be glad it exists.
you just need to be sincere in your work. passionately sincere. people will be able to sniff out if you're not. sincerity requires hard work, honesty, and a fearless searching which will begin to come naturally as you hone in on the feeling itself
probably just an initial draft of this scene bc I'm not fully satisfied with it but. I come bearing more Changhe x Hehuai angst 😇
(working on a fic that's set immediately after Muyu and Changhe return to Anhe in the finale)
Once they reach Anhe, Changhe feels completely drained of energy. After Muyu agreed that they needed to take revenge, he had been consumed by his rage and that had completely overridden the sense of nausea he'd been sitting with for the past few days. Now that Xiao Yong is dead, most of the rage has dissipated and the nausea has returned even stronger, accompanied with guilt and an emotion that he can only describe as heartbreak.
When Changhe returns to his chambers, he immediately pulls off his belt sheath. It's been feeling as if it's physically weighing him down the past few days and he can't tolerate the idea of wearing it another second longer. He quickly places the sheath and his inch swords on the table by his bed and finds himself staring at the inch sword fitted with the handle of the Dormant Dragon Sword. It's impossible to look at it without thinking of Hehuai.
He remembers when he realized Hehuai found holding his inch sword to be comforting. After being healed by Xin Baicao, Hehuai was no longer avoiding being alone with him. In fact, when Muyu was out doing errands, she would seek out Changhe's company. At first he thought he was just imagining it, but after enough recurrences it became clear it was intentional. As they continued spending time together, they would swap stories about their lives and one day this lead to Changhe showing Hehuai his inch swords.
Hehuai seems a little nervous, but there's also definitely a twinge of curiosity. "Can I hold it?"
Changhe laughs. "Sure."
He hands her the inch sword. As she takes a closer look at it, examining the handle, Changhe asks, "Do you want to learn some basics of how to use an inch sword?"
Hehuai laughs. "What, are you offering to teach me?"
"Yes."
Hehuai can hear that he's serious and immediately turns her gaze back to Changhe, nearly dropping the inch sword. "What?"
"If you want to learn, I'll teach you. Anhe will always protect you, but in case you're ever in a situation where neither Muyu nor I am with you, it'd be more self defense skills. And I'd feel better if you knew how to use a weapon."
Hehuai still seems a bit unsure but she nods. "Okay. Teach me."
— — —
One day, Muyu is gone significantly longer than he had anticipated. Hehuai has already mastered how to hold the inch sword correctly, so Changhe has moved on to showing her some simple self defense moves. While Hehuai isn't ready to put those skills to use, after about an hour, Changhe decides it's enough practice for the day, as there's no need to rush this process and he's pleased with how quickly she's been improving. It's now been multiple hours since they finished the lesson and she's still holding onto his inch sword.
Normally, Changhe hates the idea of not having all of his inch swords within reach at any given time, but he finds that it doesn't bother him to see Hehuai holding onto it. He's spent enough time with her by now that he knows how much Hehuai can worry about Muyu when they're separated. Changhe has never liked seeing Hehuai in this anxious state, but as she's allowed him to get closer to her, he's finding he hates it more and more to see her distressed.
Curiously, Hehuai seems to be a bit more at ease as she grips his inch sword, staring at it almost as if she's in a hypnotic trance.
It's not until Muyu returns to the apothecary, an apology spilling from his lips, that Changhe is hit with the realization that Hehuai feels safer when she holds his inch sword as he can see the relief wash over her as she releases it and rushes over to Muyu to greet him. And with that realization comes the understanding that Hehuai trusts him completely.
The longer he stares at the inch sword, the more Changhe can't stomach the idea of wearing it any longer.
not enough triad content so. self promoting yet again ig
need a canon divergence where su muyu and su changhe are never told that bai hehuai is dead (but they still kill xiao yong for vengeance while she's unconscious)? I wrote that
need canon-compliant reunion fic? you can read that here
need changhe x hehuai softness and them unpacking the fact that he stopped using his daggers after her "death"? here you go
I have a lot of feelings about changhe no longer using his daggers by tboy so I had to write changhe x hehuai fic about it (established triad but muyu isn't present in the fic, also heads up that the fic is rated M lol)
my fics are restricted to only people with an ao3 account so if you would like to read the fic and can't access it via ao3, it's also here
uh. working on a canon compliant post 12 year separation triad reunion smut fic (sfw excerpt):
The three of them barely get the door to Changhe's chambers closed before they start frantically pushing off each other's robes. Between kisses, Bai Hehuai pants, "I've missed you both so much."
Changhe speaks, "Well, if we'd known you were alive, we would have turned the world upside down to find you." There's a dangerous glint in his eyes that she hasn't seen since they were on opposing sides of Anhe's internal power struggle.
Muyu agrees. "We wouldn't have stopped until we found you. No matter how long it took."
Changhe and Muyu make her feel so safe that sometimes she forgets how lethal they are. She feels dizzy knowing the carnage they would've enacted on her behalf. Given she's a physician she should probably be horrified by this admission, but all she can think about is how much she loves them and how desperately she wants them right now.

my triad first time fic that ignores Su Yunxiu taking Bai Hehuai away is up. should I do a first time fic that acknowledges the 12 year separation too? 🤔
