Boomshot makes me ill and it's such a genuine shame how they have been so forcibly separated throughout the years of Phighting's history in favor of Coilshot or Skateshot. I do NOT play about Boomshot and let me explain why.
Before I get into dynamic, I think it is so beautiful and important that Boomshot was one of the founding ships in the fandom back in 2023. During that time there weren't a lot of phighters, the only ones being Slingshot, Boombox, Medkit, Rocket, and Sword. So, there wasn't much to ship. But Boomshot took everything by storm, it was one of the ships. People found love and dynamic in these very pastel characters with little personality and giving them life, making them work in synergy.
Which, I personally believe is the core of the relationship between Slingshot and Boombox. Synergy.
The two have a very harmonious dynamic to begin with. They work together because they both have that driving force for their passions: Slingshot with his bakery, or baking in general, and Boombox making music. Both things require teamwork and as mentioned before, synergy. They work together as friends, they work together as teammates, and they work together as partners. They know the importance of helping each other, one of them quite literally being a support gear.
With Boomshot, it's important to know that they're friends, they're friends and even if they weren't dating they love each other so much. They are soulmates and they know each other's strengths and weaknesses like the back of each other's hands. I think that they are also very prone to burning out from being a little too passionate and overworking themselves; Slingshot especially, considering how seriously he takes his responsibilities as a café owner. Boombox is way more relaxed, and is able to let him know that it's okay to chill out and relax. And Slingshot, having a lot of maturity in many ways (emotional or you name it), is able to help Boombox navigate social worries and other such things and support him when he's too caught up in supporting others, reminding him to take breaks as well so that he too can do his best, just like how Boombox tells Slingshot.
And the thing is with them, even if they'd do anything in the world for the other, they're not actively killing other people for each other. They're too busy having fun! One of the biggest appeals of Boomshot is just how lighthearted and fun it is. Boombox and Slingshot for the longest time were friend before they start dating. They hang out, go to phights, and do all sorts of fun stuff, because when they're in the others presence, the world seems to slip away. The only thing that matters in the moment is the now, not what others are doing or thinking of them, or whatever responsibilities in the far future they need to handle. I believe this is what also helps them work: They are good for each other. They actively help cancel out each other's worries, leading them to be more relaxed with each other than they would be on their own. They give each other harmony.
I also think that they are both very detail oriented and notice the smallest things about the other. Slingshot is a baker and a ranged gear. He's used to being precise in all sorts of ways, noticing things others don't and being exact with his actions. Boombox, on the other hand, is very social and friendly. He's approachable and knows what he's doing a lot of times in those types of situations; he's used to noticing other's feelings because the biggest thing about him is that he cares, often when a lot of inphernals wouldn't. Pairing the two together, you get a very intimate understanding of the other and remembering the smallest of things to let the other know they care. Slingshot notices that Boombox likes a specific menu item every time he orders something from his café, remembering to make him that item for free as a gift next time. Boombox notes that Slingshot's favorite genre is Old-School Hip Hop. He then makes a playlist for Sling of all the good, possibly underrated songs of that genre, making note of what songs Slingshot likes and doesn't like of the genre.
Someone on this blog said it, but it's the most true statement I've ever seen: Boomshot truly is sweet guy x sweeter guy. The two are a pair, already friendly and just the kindest people ever. They know how to treat the other right and help lift the other up when they fall short. Even if they got into a fight (which would be incredibly rare, I believe), the two would make up as soon as possible, talking out what they can do to be better for each other and prevent other fights. Boomshot reflects the confectioneries that Slingshot sells in his café: So incredibly sweet and sugary and feel-good. And that's what the Inpherno needs. For a place full of grief and violence, it needs a happy, purely lovely couple to share joy into a world that's deprived of it.
With all this said, I'm not sure how it's not popular [anymore]. It's genuinely such a beautiful ship and I hope more people see the vision of Boomshot with this post. Maybe. Subscribe to Boomshot oooo you wanna make boomshot fanart wowoooooo
