And onward with the saga of a Queen and her imp.
We are well into our summer hiatus, and that means itâs time for the seventh bi-annual Swan Queen Week!
If youâre new to SWEN and/or this event, Swan Queen Week is an entire week dedicated to making fic, gifs, graphics, fanmixes, vids, etc., for our two favorite ladies. During the Week, our goal is to flood our dashboards with as much Swan Queen as we can handle.
Please continue on below the cut for more information on how to participate, what to expect, and a few housekeeping matters.

âYouâve been a menace,â Regina says, her head bowed. âI fought you every day of my life.â
âYou needed me. You still need me,â the Queen says sharply. âYou sayâŚyou say Iâm not Regina, that Iâm a separate, incomplete entity.â She steps forward, eyes glittering, and Reginaâs hands move up to catch the Queenâs wrists as her hands fall onto Reginaâs hips. âBut if Iâm not Regina, then how can you ever be her, either?â
Regina stands very still, the Queenâs hands possessive on her hips and her lips close enough to kiss. Her eyes are wide and vulnerable, regrets swimming within them, and the Queenâs face is a mirror of her own.
When theyâre together, itâs harder and harder to tell where they begin and where they end, which pieces of Regina each of them possess. Emma watches them with fascination and more than a little longing for them both. âPlease,â Regina whispers, her hands sliding up the Queenâs arms, thumbs brushing along jewels and satin and a hard-ridged collar. âPlease leave Emma out of this.â

can you quickly explain reginas redemption arc for me pls? im a cser who doesnt really see it but i want to understand the complexity of it a bit more so i was just wondering. (this is a genuine ask btw so sorry if it comes off a bit false)
Quickly? Â No.
This is going to be a bit long. Â You have to start by thinking about young Regina before the death of Daniel because that is what Adam and Eddy have explicitly told us we should think about. Â In the 1.18 Stable Boy commentary Eddy says that the young woman who saves Snow White on that horse is selfless, heroic, and good and that her entire character journey is to get back to that place. Â From season one this was the story that they were telling and so it wasnât something rushed itâs fundamental to the backbone of the show as they intended it.
Regina was also very explicitly the victim of child abuse. Â We see Cora repeatedly use magic and violence against her daughter to force her to behave in the ways Cora wanted.
I bring this up not to excuse who Regina became as the Evil Queen but because you have to seriously understand the psychology of her breaking before you can consider how she recovered from it. Â In 5.19 we have Cora tell Henry Sr. that she canât heal Regina with her magic because it needs to be someone whose magic has never hurt Regina. Â Itâs a casual and off hand statement that yes even at ten Cora has been hurting her daughter with magic.
Weâre talking about a woman who grew up in a house hold where she could hear the beats of hundreds of hearts her mother had taken in their living room. Â Who desperately did not want to be like her.
But like many victims of childhood abuse she also internalized a lot of lessons from Cora.  Though not at first that âlove is weaknessâ.  What she learned first was that you were either a victim or a victimizer.  That no one could or would protect you from pain but yourself.  She articulates this to Graham in 1.07 in her âI always felt there were two kinds of people â wolves and sheep. Those who kill, and those who get killed.â  This comes from someone who lives in a world where there are people who are supposed to protect the young and the innocent (parents, heroes, fairiesâŚ) and who have consistently failed to protect her.

War is coming to Storybrooke, and the heroes are in for a rude awakening.
Even Zimbo loves the twist of Regina and The Evil Queen and finds C$ boring. Â
woah LOL
â No matter how vengeful and petty the Evil Queen is, she is undoubtedly captivating. Plus, she cuts through all the boring, sappy dialogue between Snow and Charming and Captain Swanâs snoozefest storyline. Watching Regina fight against herself means we get way more screen time with her next season, and thatâs the best gift the Once Upon a Time writers couldâve given us. â
My new favorite article!:
âForget about Dark Swan and Rumple. Those two baddies are nothing compared to the richly dynamic Evil Queen whose wrath has no bounds.â
Not even a mention for DarkHook.
