the thing that pissed me off the most about the nodyssey was the ‘calypso helps odysseus remember the events of the odyssey because he forgor’ plot because like. well for one where are my awesome phaeacians. but for real: it is important to odysseus’ character that the narrative of his journey is in fact narrated by him to the phaeacians and he invents or emphasises events and themes that will convince them that he did nothing wrong and they should help him get home. it is deliberated storytelling. but you the reader do not have to take him at his word!!! that is liar mclyingface. so to reduce odysseus thee epic lying narrator to like. half remembered stream of conscious flashback no hint of artifice is. well it pissed me off. if you really wanted to reach you could say his ‘narrative’ deceives himself but i think that is being too generous to what is in the film. adjacent to this is the sinon plotline adapted from the aeneid which also pissed me off because i love sinon in the aeneid! because he is also a devious liar*! (*or i guess he very carefully says a lot of deceptive truths. fun). who on earth decides to make a film about an archetypal lying trickery guy and then is like. no we have to take the lying out. we have to put another liar in and then take that lying out too. and what if the guy known for his many tricks: felt bad about. the tricks. WHAT ARE WE DOING.

the nodyssey was also kind of incoherent in that it repeatedly thematised: consequentialism is either bad or good. nobody can or should do consequentialism except The Guy In Charge. the problem with consequentialism, which is good unless maybe it’s bad, is that if you as The Guy In Charge fuck it up and haven’t told everyone you’re doing consequentialism then they will be mad at you. which is bad because it makes you feel bad. but we don’t know whether telling people you’re doing consequentialism is bad or good. like deceiving people for their own good is good! unless it’s bad. #nuance

Also how in general like "religious" connotes life is profound and has real meaning and "secular" means we can scientifically progress but it's devoid of deeper enlightenment and we need a non-secular spiritual side in our personal life to keep a "balance". Idk about you but no matter what all of the most powerful emotions in my life are pretty secular. On July 14, 2026, Johan Sebastián Druán Guerrero was shot and killed by ICE agent David Brouillette in Biddeford, Maine in his car, outside of his home. (1) ICE claims that Guerrero "weaponized" his vehicle against Brouillette. Brouillette, "...fearing for public safety...discharged his weapon." (2) ICE had been surveilling the last known address of a suspect with a final order of removal, though Guerrero was legally in the country with a social security number. (3)

Even if Guerrero was not "legally" within the United States, this never should have happened. The claims made by ICE that Guerrero "weaponized" his car against officers are easily questioned by viewing security footage and reading eyewitness accounts here.

Biddeford is across the river from my hometown of Saco, and the intersection where the shooting happened is one that many of us who are local are familiar with. I crossed Pool and Hill when I was going to the University of New England as a student, apprentice to the archivist in the special collections, and to visit a family member who worked there. I would go through the intersection to visit friends, go to work, or go for a walk around Timber Point or Clifford Park.

This shooting came less than a week after the killing of Lorenzo Araujo (4) on Canal St. in Houston, Texas. Guerrero was Colombian, 25 years old, and is survived by his wife and 3-year-old daughter. I no longer live in Maine, but I urge those of you who do to attend any protests you can, like the one in Portland yesterday, and fight for the removal of Susan Collins in the upcoming election (as much as voting helps.) Please, please talk about this, keep talking about this, and don't stop. Guerrero is the second person murdered by ICE in a week, and both involved claims of the victims attempting to flee traffic stops.
